If anyone wants to talk about the debates, or anything else vaguely political, have at it here!
Also, I’m not exactly sure why someone wanted to make wax Romney and Obama heads, but I figured I’d put these up in case any of you were ever wondering what that would look like.
@inurashii – I think I’ll play the game where – WTF, did he just say “trickle down government”? Nuts to my prior plan, I’m playing your game now *chug*
K, good luck with this one, guys! Really hope Crazy doesn’t make a good impression on your nation!
And there goes my sammich, sporfled at the keyboard … Nepenthe, I was just about to ask if anyone had started yelling at the telly when I read that! 😀
@ttf – not your bad, my bad joke 🙂
You have way too much faith in us. SARAH PALIN was almost a hair’s breadth from the oval office.
No, she was never anywhere close to it once Bush destroyed the economy.
You’re right, princessbonbon, but for a while there it looked dicey. That she was ever a serious candidate should be enough to cast aspersions on our political system, though. *Shudder, drink*
The thing that drives me fucking bonkers about this debate is that Obama has to explain actual, existing policies that have had real issues and been fought tooth and nail for years.
Romney can pretty much make up imaginary policies that don’t exist and compare them to Obama’s real policies.
I was worried the day after her first speech for about ten minutes.
Where the hell is Romney getting his Obamacare premium increase numbers? Were they in his pre-debate fortune cookie?
Ok. It’s over. Closing the window. Breathing out. Fuck.
Romney came off evasive as hell.
@princessbonbon – I live in the deep south, so I probably have a skewed view of things. Sarah Palin is still solid gold down here, even if the rest of the country has pretty much forgotten about her.
Yeah, that was pretty painful. I think I’ll start drinking now in preparation for the VP debate.
Romney came off evasive, but Obama came off nerfed. Romney CONTROLLED the debate, even if he didn’t land any heavy blows. There were a shitload of topics that I was hoping would come up and just DIDN’T.
Blech.
I love Jim Lehrer, but he dropped the ball tonight. So hard.
I’m not seeing his control of the debate.
Fitzy, I guess it’s possible to vaporize alcohol. You could just set something up like an air freshener. Keeps hands free for throwing popcorn, soda cans, bricks… whatever needs to be thrown at the teevee to make the people stop talking.
Fitzy, I know it’s not the deep south, but a friend of mine moved to New Mexico from Alaska specifically to get away from Palin when she was governor. She came from Wasilla, and as a health-care worker had firsthand experience of what a creep Palin was. I hope they don’t think of Palin as gold in NM … be ironic to move to the other end of the country and still not be able to get clear of her.
@hellkell, I felt like the entire format of the debate was basically Romney saying “I’m going to create magical unicorns, like I did in Massachusetts!”
And Obama spends, like, his whole time saying “Governor Romney’s plans are not poised to create magical unicorns” rather than engaging in any content that Romney doesn’t put forth himself.
Also, I live in Massachusetts. We HATE that guy.
@ Nepenthe – I was thinking of just investing in one of those hats with the can holders and straw-tubes. Elegant, understated, and a perfect finish to any outfit!
But maybe I’m just being pessimistic because Romney’s rhetoric is especially rage-inducing for me.
@Kitteh – The Daily Show did a great “expose” on Palin’s Wasilla during the ’08 campaign. It was brutal and hilarious. I honestly don’t know what New Mexico politics are like; the only people I know out there work at Los Alamos and are pretty staunch Republicans, but they might not be representative of the whole. Though I think most of the mainstream Republican party has turned it’s collective back on her at this point. Only down here with the Tea Partiers and fundamentalists is she still the boss.
@inurashii – I think Romney’s rhetoric is rage-inducing to anyone with ears and a conscience.
Inurashii: yeah, Romney was making shit up, but I don’t look at that necessarily controlling the debate, more like desperation. I find him rage-inducing too, I could not give the teevee the finger hard enough while listening to that weasel.
Ok. I’ll try to internalize your POV — the debate felt super-disappointing for me and it really felt like Obama spent the entire time defending himself and dismantling specious claims rather than making headway
But I recognize that I am coming to this from a place of frustration and I’m willing to concede that some hearts/minds may have been won.
Especially because of the PBS thing, seriously.
