Also, he pats himself on the back for being a totally cool and awesome dude who handles both his job and his duties as a father in a super awesome way — way better than his wife handles her new motherhood — because he’s a man, damnit, and totally able to see the world in an objective way.

I don’t feel like I singled anyone out — I just explained why I try not question people’s gender myself. I think if we start questioning a person’s gender it starts us down a path that is potentially hurtful, and not just to the trolls/sock puppets among us. Given that women (GWW, typhonblue, Nurdy Dancing, et al.) are capable of being misogynistic, what does it matter what lucrabra/ludicrousbro/whatever identifies as male or female? I guess that’s my point.

Okay, first of all, there are substantive differences between the two instances, such as the fact that Sharon Seemins never actually identified as a woman (whereas I’m pretty sure sunshinemary has) and that the only indication that Sharon might be a woman is the feminine name, and that is rendered sort of moot by the fact that it’s an obvious (and stupid) pun. I don’t have a problem with calling someone out for super obvious gender misrepresentation – see, say, any of Pell’s feminine pseudonyms for an example – but when it’s just you grabbing at straws to contradict someone’s explicitly stated gender identity? Sorry, still a shitty thing to do.
Second, as Cloudiah said, it doesn’t really matter what someone’s gender is with respect to whether or not they’re being sexist (or otherwise oppressive).
Third, I’m not the freakin’ Manboobz Thought Police.* You said something thoughtless and potentially cruel. I called that out. If you feel terribly put upon by that, shit, sorry, but I really don’t think your hurt feelings are the issue at hand, here.
Fourth, if you don’t like that others are going uncalled-out for doing the same thing you did, you should call them out! That way, no one gets away with potentially oppressive talk and you don’t have to feel unjustly targeted. Win-win.

I really don’t agree with you on the two scenarios being so drastically different. I think you are blowing way out of proportion the “potential cruelty” of my remark. Sunshine Mary is a piece of shit troll, who has said far worse things, but if you would like to defend HER, go right ahead. There is no context in which shit like “hypergamy,” “rationalization hamster,” or “women cry rape after bad sex” are anything but misogyny.
