He’s also an MRA and a regular poster to the Men’s Rights subreddit. When he complains there about the terrible injustices allegedly faced by white men in academia, as he does here, he gets upvotes:

I’VE LATELY BEEN HAVING A CRAVING FOR SPAM THE WAY WE COOKED IT WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID (AND MY PARENTS WERE APPARENTLY FINANCIALLY STRUGGLING, TO WHICH I WAS OBLIVIOUS): SLICED UP, SMEARED WITH YELLOW MUSTARD, SPRINKLED WITH BROWN SUGAR AND LEMON JUICE, AND THEN BAKED. IT WAS VERY SWEET, AND I LIKED IT A LOT.
I’m a female philosopher (became a PhD this March and is teaching a bit). I actually don’t experience our department as sexist (this is NOT to dismiss the experiences of the people writing on Jarred’s site, it’s more to say – maybe I’m lucky to be on a good department?). Everybody’s also been terribly supportive when it comes to my mental illness, which I REALLY appreciate.
Still, it’s terribly male-dominated. If you look at the generation that’s in their fifties-sixties, there’s hardly any women at all. Among the recent PhD:s or soon-to-be PhD:s it’s about fifty percent women. The NEW PhD students however are all male. The chair of our department noticed that and said something like “I don’t know how it came to be like this, I thought we had a trend towards more and more women in the department, and now there’s suddenly this backlash?” He and some other seniors once asked me and a couple of other women from my generation if we had any explanation for there being so few women, but we honestly had no idea. Then one of these men came up with the bright idea that perhaps it would be better if one could interview some women who started doing philosophy and then dropped out, rather than asking the once who stayed. Probably.
Funny/sad story btw: A number of years back the seniors at the department read this study about a paper that got higher grades when it was circulated with a male name on it, than when this very same paper circulated with a female name on it. They figured that since we might unconsciously give better grades to male students, exams should from now on be anonymously submitted. This somehow made the news into the university paper as “philosophy professors are so sexist that they can’t objectively grade women’s exams”. Er…
Nowadays though, anonymous exams have become standard.
