Men’s Rights Redditors: We don’t mind your racist hysteria, but don’t you EVER try to creep-shame us!

The dude who calls himself mayonesa on Reddit is a race-obsessed right winger who moderates (and provides much of the content for) several far-right subreddits devoted to “ethno-nationalism” and “scientific” racism. He’s also an MRA and a regular poster to the Men’s Rights subreddit. When he complains there about the terrible injustices allegedly faced by white men in academia, as he does here, he gets upvotes:

This, by contrast, got him a bunch of downvotes:

Defending hetero white dudes from the evil black lesbians that apparently control academia, a-ok! Suggesting that MRAs can’t get dates: heresy!

Why are they so upset about that? The MRAs themselves seem to describe themselves as the above, just without the negative wording. But a lot of them talk about being bitter and angry about their divorces, or how unfair it is that women won’t sleep with them and nobody understands their plight as lonely Nice Guys™, that they’re “omega” men who will never ever ever ever ever get sex, and guys that hate paying for women. -_o So that sounds pretty accurate. (Not saying I agree that men SHOULD pay for women’s dinners, just that that is something they do complain about)

That is, that I can see why they might be upset that the guy is obv putting them down, but the categorization itself seems to be how a lot of the MRAs describe themselves. o_O

Do I want to know what “ethno-nationalism” is?

….No. No, I don’t.

*sigh* Do these people have any capacity for introspection? And on that note, Do these people just glom on to things to hate? Seriously, that’s the only explanation that I can think of that they would be so butthurt about political correctness, they just can’t stand the idea that it’s rude to be hateful towards someone just for being different from them.

Ok I want to talk about the racism issue if I may because honestly I’ve always found the very concept of hating someone based on their race abhorrent ever since I was a young boy It’s seemed totally illogical and against the essence of being human. Yet people do it and it’s just like why? Your brain must have to do all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify this shit to yourself hence the concept of “scientific racism” I guess.

I know being all happy and clappy and can’t we all just get along isn’t going to fix anything I know you don’t have to be a fire breathing hate monger to be racist but god we’ve all got to f’ing live here.

Sorry I know I’m being naive but I had to get that off my chest because it burns me up how nonsensical the position is and I’m sorry you all had to read this so I’m just going to stop now before I say something stupid.

Oh, sure, non-detail oriented thinkers do AMAZINGLY well in academia. WTF planet is this dude on?

I wonder if he chose his screename because he’s white, bland, and full of bad shit?

Marc, these people hate others for no legitimate reason. They like to hate because they are insecure and it makes them uncomfortable. Sadly, this is how some people are and they don’t like to admit they’re wrong even when called out.

Fun fact, hellkell: Heterosexual white men do AMAZINGLY well in academia too. Though obviously in this fellow’s mind, most colleges have discriminatory hiring policies against men rather than women and men are regularly denied tenure for no reason rather than women.

Non-detail oriented thinkers?

WTF?

Is it a “one thing in this list does not fit” or what exercise?

What IS a non-detail oriented thinker????????

I imagine he believes that there is a conspiracy against people like him in academia, when in reality he simply isn’t qualified to pursue a post-graduate degree.

Maybe ‘non-detail-oriented thinker’ somehow ties to evopsych concept of men being better at seeing the bigger picture or whatever? Or I guess attending classes and actually learning could be considered details…

Sarah, I was being sarcastic. I know het white men pretty much have a lock on academia.

Somehow I suspect “non-detail oriented thinker” means “white dude who is correct about everything and resents being told he has to adequately support his points.”

I had several of them in my classes. Ugh.

Mr. Mayonnaise explains what he means by non-detail oriented thinker:

notcaptainkirk nailed it:

I am assuming that he means that exams tend to focus on minutiae rather than fundamentals and applications of fundamental principles.

Waffebunny also has an interesting comment.

What I see in our schools today is that they teach details, and ignore actual understanding, so you get robotic students at the top and bored smart people cruising on Bs.

It’s foolish because it puts the top students in slots above their ability level, and destroys the potential of many of the kids who could really shine and take those slots.

I know they’re talking about Britain, but I know the last time I looked at US stats on who’s getting college degrees these days, white middle-class non-rural men are doing just fine. If MRAs wanted to help men go to college, they’d focus on helping poor, rural, and non-white men.

Of course (1) MRAs don’t like poor, rural, and non-white men, and (2) they don’t help.

@Jarrod, what’s the point of your link? Creeps not getting that they’re creeps? Oversensitive females who overreact all the time? Cognitive disconnect? Different interpretations of shared experiences?

Would you clarify pls?

So “rape culture” and “patriarchy”, about which much research and literature have been written, are laughable, unsubstantiated concepts, but “creep shaming”, which some dudes on Reddit made up, is totally a legitimate idea.

@Freitag

What the hell? I was linking to a resource that shows the claim that “women have it so easy” is false.

Apparently, even linking to a prominently known feminist produce site with no commentary brands me as a troll. This has definitely been my strangest experience on the internet.

Jarrod, have you seen the trolls here?

There’s 44,000 readers or so of /mr, and this guy has gotten 24 votes in favor of one comment and 34 votes against his other comment.

Not only have you really caught /mr in a real gotcha bit of hypocrisy, you’ve demonstrated how they all walk in lockstep.

My congratulations to you, Journalist Futrelle!

I look forward to your follow on with the Telegraph and with Julie Henry, Education Correspondent in which you explain to her how their outreach program to recruit white males is racist.

Jarrod seriously now, who has ever called you a troll here? Why are you so defensive?

Apparently, linking to a site that some woman wrote, sometime, somewhere, about her personal experiences, and relating them to the world around her = something all feminists should know about because I found it and should know exactly what I meant because it’s not like I’ve been unclear before in my own writing.

Dude, duder, no one is here to buy feminist produce. Really. If you have a point to make, please feel free to go ahead and make it, links are supplemental evidence for your point, a link does not make a point.

What’s feminist produce? Is it, like, zuchinni that have been manipulated while growing so that they resemble the NOW logo?
