@Scrapemind

Feminist are blank-slaters who believe that the male propensity for violence is caused by arbitrary socialization. Feminists wrongly believe that men are basically good.

So, feminists are wrong because they believe men are basically good? That’s the story you’re going with? That’s certainly…original.

Of course, if feminists think men are basically good, then they can’t be blank-slaters, can they? Maybe you need to go reread Steven Pinker, hmmm?

Also this:

and does not want to relinquish the sexism premium women have always enjoyed

would have been the most stupid thing I’ve read all week, if it wasn’t immediately preceded by scrapemind’s comment. Women have ALWAYS been the dominant sex? In the Middle Ages? That’s what you’re going with?

I didn’t say that men are all bad. You people are so enlightened and nuanced and yet you still don’t know the difference between generalizations and absolute statements.

It’s also covering the floods going on here.
I’m ok in the province I’m in here. Every year when it pours for extended periods of time, I know that people are dying. I don’t watch television and didn’t hear what was going on in Manila but it’s not surprising. I know I can’t get down there to do immigration business, and my lawyer is missing. I’m going to have to get a ride over to his house and check on him. He’s in Manila a lot and has not been answering texts which is not like him.

For a guy who spends all day in front of a computer monitoring men’s rights websites for misogynistic comments, he should be an expert on cogent men’s rights movement arguments on the interconnectedness of misogyny and misandry,

If there were any cogent arguments in the MRM on anything, then yes, David would know them well.

@scrape

This were your statements:

Feminist are blank-slaters who believe that the male propensity for violence is caused by arbitrary socialization. Feminists wrongly believe that men are basically good.

So, in your opinion, feminists are wrong to think that men are born as blank slates, neither good or bad. They are also wrong in thinking that men are basically good. Doesn’t leave a lot of options, does it?

I didn’t say that men are all bad. You people are so enlightened and nuanced and yet you still don’t know the difference between generalizations and absolute statements.

OH! You only mean it as a generalization, that men are mostly or generally bad. This is not actually less stupid.

Yes Ugh. Good point. It’s important to police the people who think they’re on your side but are saying idiotic things. It appears that when it comes to my court case, you’re on the idiotic side, of misandrically describing it as ‘frivolous’. 130 people from 11 countries who donated money to the fighting fund didn’t think it was frivolous, nor quite a few journalists and commentators. I suggest you’re being disingenuous with your assessment of the validity of the principles lying at the core of my complaint. A lawyer who came forward to represent me for free did not think it was frivolous (the judge did not allow him to represent me in court).

What aspect of complaining about misandry being excluded from gender debates is frivolous?

Uh oh, they have Dines at the end. The panel kind of shot her down. I don’t mind her but I do find myself having to clarify her approach and sloppy presentations. I think that pornography is a part of this issue, but it’s got to be introduced into the subject so that it makes sense.

The irony of the woman coming on at the end after Dines was shot down and suggesting that rape jokes should not be allowed. I know they ran out of time, but disabling Dines perspective so quickly I would hope they applied the same critical thinking to whining about what a comedian is allowed to say. I think that cultural analysis can be drawn from what a comedian says, but this whole frame of “is this ok?” is odd and off putting. Can a comedian make really racist minority jokes? Yes, but it makes that person a racist, and hopefully people would disengage from that comedian.

the courts, on the other hand, did, and well, theyre sort of the experts on this thing, not to mention the only ones whos opinion really matters

so yep, baldy, your lawsuit was in fact, frivolous. sorry.

You’ve got me. I was wrong not to distinguish between blank slate and basically good. I said basically good because my impression was that feminists mostly talk about socialization as something bad that feminism will abolish rather than something to make people better.

If your plan was to not sound stupid, you are failing spectacularly.

You can’t “abolish” socialization, because we LIVE IN A SOCIETY. Society will always affect everything we do. Many feminists feel we should be critical about the messages that social authorities send about gender roles. Like, for example. “men are bad and violent.” This is why studies show that feminists have fewer hostile beliefs about men than the general population.

@scrapemind

There are people who comment here who do seriously think that men are naturally violent and predatory. However, they’re all MRAs and anti-feminists, like owlyslave.

Um, no, scrapemind, feminists talk about changing the way people are socialized. Socialization isn’t good or bad, it just is. You can be socialized to be sexist or socialized to be non-sexist. It’s really not that complicated.

scrapemind

But men are violent. Will men stop being violent if we pretend that they aren’t?
