Men may not be from Mars, but A Voice for Men wants them to get all the credit for that Mars landing

It’s a proud day for the dudes over at A Voice for Men, which is celebrating the landing of the Curiousity rover on Mars by giving dudes everywhere serious dude credit for the event, which apparently involved no women at all. Well, maybe a few. But it certainly didn’t involve any of the women in the women’s studies department at Columbia University!

Actually it would be rather difficult for that to be the case. Impossible, really, as there is no women’s studies department at Columbia. Instead, Columbia has an Institute for Research on Women and Gender, an interdisciplinary center that works in cooperation with the Barnard College Women’s Studies department.

In any case, that once sentence is the entire text of the post, which linked to a live feed of the landing.

But to make sure everyone understands the MAN-significance of this MAN-vent, the AVFM dudes promoted it with this MAN-tastic blurb on the front page. (I mean the blurb on the right, of course, celebrating MEN and their UTTER MASTERYof technology. Just ignore that bit on the left about the technical glitches that AVFM has itself been having lately.)

The comments are more or less what we’ve come to expect from the AVFM crowd. I especially liked these two, from a manly fellow calling himself ActaNonVerba.

His followup is a bit Anthony Zarat-esque in its utopian grandeur:

You’re a feminist. I’d say she failed miserably. You belong to the most destructive societal hate group ever devised in the frankfurt school of marxism. Not exactly a resounding success.

Oh, I don’t know about that. Sounds like the Frankfurt School of Marxism devised some pretty serious hate groups. What about their secret gay recruitment schools? What about their plot to make TV shows dumb? Is feminism really worse than “Family Guy”?

Anyway, I’m a happy and productive member of society. What else should therapy have done for me?

Nah, it just proves the dismal failure. Women mucked that shit up. Move on to the next. I guess if ya want all society to fail completely, (almost there), put women in charge.

Oh, honey, I’m so disappointed. You didn’t even read what I wrote, and I love writing about science. I didn’t say women mucked up science. I said they made it BETTER.

I’m a little confused. Can you give an example of how biology and medicine have gotten mucked up since women got involved? I’m drawing a blank here.

Just out of curiosity, when everything goes belly up, and we can clearly see how women played the major role in it. Will it still be mens fault? I mean we know the schools system is shit and it’s an all womens club. Are men still to blame? Can we finally say, women fucked it up?

I have lots of ideas about how public education could be improved, but I have to continue to disagree with you on the notion that the current problems are caused by schoolteachers having vaginas, since most U.S. schoolteachers have always had vaginas.

As for your larger question, I have severe doubts that the Earth will be destroyed at any point in the near future. If it happens, I’m sure that both men and women will be among the responsible parties, for various reasons that have nothing to do with women having jobs and stuff.

Let’s say we agree to wait to assign blame for things when they actually happen. The collapse of society, the coalition of Arab nations into a single superpower, the mass firing of male CEOs and their replacement by random women plucked off the street, etc.

If he doesn’t dispute it, are you going to pretend he said it and put it in the Book of Learnin’?

Of course not. I am very serious about the Book of Learnin’. Anyway, the Book already includes many facts about race relations, all of which, as far as I can tell, NWO genuinely believes:

All beatings and murders of African-American slaves were committed by women.

The only problem faced by female African-American slaves was that no one helped them into carriages. Therefore, a white man who has to stand on a bus has suffered worse than Sojourner Truth.

Lynchings in the American South consisted of women accusing men of rape because they were man-hating feminists. In cases where a man was lynched on an accusation from another man, the lynchings were justified.

In 100 years, white people will have gone extinct because white women didn’t reproduce enough. Archeologists discovering the remains of Western culture will laugh at us for letting women have rights.

I bet you only knew, like, half those things. That’s why I keep the Book. To educate.

NWOslave, if someone calls you sexist and racist, the proper response is, “Oh, well. So were all the great men of history, so I’m not too offended.”

pbbbbbt HAHAHAHA

You don’t know what you’re doing with this, “No, you’re the real sexists and racists!” Your opponents are of the tradition that invented those words; you cannot wield them.

This is what these fools sound like when they talk to each other.

It. Is. Precious.

You’re still trying to subtly manipulate people and feeling like a chessmaster. Keep having fun with that, but just remember, nobody is really paying attention.

@Shaenon

I’ve forgotten to mention for the past little while but I love Narbonic, I haven’t had the chance to read much because I’m bogged with something like 8 different webcomics at the moment, and I barely keep tabs on 3 of them, but I’ve been meaning to, and from what I have read I’ve loved it.

By the way, me and Martin Luther King believe a man should be judged by the content of his character, not the color of his skin.

Seriously, fuck you, you racist piece of shit.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1963

Please keep in mind that NWO is claiming that prior to second wave feminism Black people did not suffer.

Still wondering where Slavey gets this stuff, I mean this is a brand of silly that even infowars doesn’t descend to.

Not that I ignored the answer last time, but it is really curious as to how he draws these conclusions, is it just brainfax or does he get this from somewhere aside from infowars, prisonplanet and stormfront. As those sources are rather obvious, and there just have to be more, I’ve been to those sites just to have a laugh, and none of them drop to some of the levels that Slavey does in his comments here.

Additional fun history note the march where MLK gave the I Have a Dream speech was organized by socialists and the multiple time Socialist Party of America presidential candidate stood on the stage with him. MLK also had published a piece calling him ‘the bravest man I know’ and saying that ‘he was with us before anyone else was with us’.

‘We know that male aversion to intimacy is not a cultural universal. But here’s a puzzle for feminists. Feminists might predict that under traditionalist patriarchy, men would be afraid to hug other men, and the modern West’s feminism and LGBT movement would cure men of that fear. However, we see the opposite. Men hug men in traditional, patriarchal cultures, but in the 21st-century West such behavior is considered effeminate.’

While this is an awful oversimplification, pretty much to the point of not being debatable (which cultures are involved here? Which cultures in the west? In what context are men hugging?), I will just say that while women have moved into traditionally ‘male’ environments, including sports and certain careers, there has been a backlash (as if I need to point this out!) of men that’s quite a distasteful mix of misogyny and homophobia. In some men’s eyes (generally the kind who believe in a Leave it to Beaver version of the past that never existed, ever) as women become ‘male’ men must be extra vigilant not to do anything coded ‘female.’ Including touching other men.

The footballers do still seem to be fine with it, though.

On the other hand, I know a lot of teenagers and college kids who are comfortable with their own sexuality and that of their friends, gay, bi, straight and everything in between. Perhaps these kids have always existed, but I don’t think so. There are still the bigots (often, sigh, yes, the closeted ones who are protesting too much), but the number of kids who barely shrug at anything but hetero is growing.

As Walmarts go up, so does homophobia? The two don’t fit.

The Western male culture of men-no-huggie was long before there was a female here or there doing this or that.

I’m in the Philippines, strongly patriarchal, and men hold on to each other and are very physically close. If you wanted to get them to stop you could jokingly associate this with “Bakla” gay… .(I know this because of teaching Koreans out here, I can’t get into that without going into a big thing.) My point is, I think it’s a faulty premise that acceptance of gay culture for hetero men means more touchy feely expressions. Some of the cultures where men kiss on the cheek is so homohateful, they kill people and hang them from trees.

Here it’s weird, there are many many gay and trans people. There are many more than I have seen in the states, and this includes in popular culture. I can still hear stories of parents disowning children, but here they laugh at the people for the most part. I can’t speak for the ones that are the target of laughter, it seems to me to be better for them than out and out violence. I don’t know how to weigh a clown role they are forced to play over the latter. They are happy and joking and accept their personas on the outside, I can say that much. They’re still otherized and that becomes their entire identity.

Example, I walk into a room, someone points to a guy and says laughing and loud, “HE IS A GAY!!” the person pointed out smiles. Me:”Yes, I know, I’m aware of that thanks. ”

We had a dwarf at our school. Popular guy, happy. But I was frustrated over hearing everywhere he went, “HE IS SMALL!” No fucking shit you bunch of Sherlocks. Why don’t you get a clue on how that might make someone feel hearing that non stop every day, all his life? And the dude still smiled along with everyone else.

But men touching eachother might have the reverse relationship to homophobia than what you’re spelling out here.

There was a thing on Texts from Last Night about someone putting drops of acid in random drinks in their fridge whilst drunk.

I think NWOslave is what you get if you do this to the staff fridge(s) at the Daily Mail.

NWO is pretending he knows what, “the ghetto” is like, and all the rest of us are ignorant fools.

I know what “the ghetto” is like. I grew up in one. It was poor. Some people were violent. The cops hassled you. There was theft. There was murder. People looked down on you, because of where you were from. The good jobs required a commute. The busses don’t run as regularly. Grocery stores are either far away, or poorly stocked; they have higher prices.

That’s what the ghetto is like. It’s that way because some parts of society don’t like/care for/get benefit from oppressing, other parts.

He, of course, will say that it’s “FEMINISM” which is doing the oppressing. They do it by electing bigots and racists and homophobes into office, because that’s how they want the world.

Them, and the Rothchild bankers.

True Story: I was in Iraq, Spring, 2003. A friend of mine had been sent forward, to do field interrogations with units in the Forward Edge of the Battle Area (forgive the milspeak, think of it as what used to be called, “the front”, and realise he was supposed to be just a little behind the fighting).

About three weeks (and two major relocations) later we were in a camp a bit SSW of Baghdad). I’m heading to the mess tent, and this guy I don’t quite recognise is flipping me the bird, in stereo. It was my friend, he’d lost twenty lbs, and grown a mustache, and gotten a tan (which was true of pretty much all of us, save the mustache; about half the guys grew them; the women didn’t).

When I realised who it was… we were hugging in the street.

…So, in summary, NWO doesn’t think anyone should be judged on the color of their skin, as long as they’re white.

Cliff Pervocracy

And also, I only think he’s a racist because I didn’t grow up around black people.

…Oops, I did, but it doesn’t count because they weren’t the bad kind of black people, like the ones he knew.

…And that’s why he’s not a racist.

“If you want to know what the ghetto is like and why it is the way it is, come see me. We all know who the racists are, princess. We who lived in the ghetto, call them feminists.” My firsthand experience says otherwise. However, you are talking about the ghetto in NWO land which exists entirely in your own head which doesn’t qualify as real world experience to begin with.

@Uncle Elmer

Is that really you in the photo beneath the title of your seminal article at The Spearhead? Gee, you sure look exceptionally pleased to be seated at such a grand meal after your long day working in the salt mines (or whatever the hell dangerous and dirty job you do). Can’t imagine why you had to wait for a “ForeignBride” to “finally arrive” in order for you to be treated in manner you so obviously deserve!! Gosh, there must have been SCADS of domestic women just banging down your door for the chance to prepare you an awesome meal, laid before you in restaurant-style manner. Oh, and look, your “ForeignBride” manages to do it so effortlessly, especially with a little one under foot (or, rather, wedged between her and the kitchen table, as evidenced in the 9th photo of your fabulous at-home photo shoot).
