Men’s Rights Redditor on a Men’s Rights critic: “He is getting older and homosexual and … people like these tend to age like milk instead of wine.”

In yet another discussion of Arthur Goldwag’s latest post on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch blog (looking at MRAs bad-mouthing the men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in the Aurora shootings), longtime Men’s Rights Redditor Liverotto offers this intriguing take on what he sees as Goldwag’s motivations for criticizing the Men’s Rights movement:

Yeah, a dude actually wrote that, and a couple of people actually upvoted it.

I’m trying to understand the logic: Goldwag is growing older and more homosexual (do men usually become gay as they age?). But gay men age badly, which makes them mad at their “suitors.” So therefore Goldwag has come to hate the (mostly straight) men of the Men’s Rights movement?

Another highlight of the discussion: The r/mensrights regular who thinks I’m Paul Elam. No, really.

Oh no, I mentioned him in another thread, and now he’s here.

Hey, does anyone here think Russell Brand isn’t that hot?

Imagine if older women were trying to rationalize their attraction to young men by calling kids men and calling men boys… And if they made arguments like “well, he’s gone through puberty, so he’s old enough to breed. You’d be crazy if you were not attracted to him.”

Imagine if women looked at males of all ages in a sexual light, making comments about the future sex life of every boy in every situation. Every man was looked at first as a possible sex partner, and only afterwords as a person (and this second one didn’t always happen).

And imagine if men were socialized to accept this behavior as normal, as something that women “just do.” “Girls will be girls” they’d be told, and because men mostly viewed as sex objects, they’d be unable to progress in the female-dominated culture.

The “age of the female gaze” would really suck if it existed.

Hey, lowquacks, you summoned the whiny kraken, so I think it’s your duty to deal with him.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. But Azor Ahai is an ASOIAF reference, not a GoT one. GoT is just the first book, and it fits the first book, and does not fit the rest of the series. It’s sort of my pet peeve that everyone refers to it as “GoT” now. Plus, Azor Ahai hasn’t even been referred to in the show.

I just went from “meh, maybe it’s him” to “no possible doubt.”

I meant I don’t think he’s that hot, to be clear. I think I misread you.

… Russel Brand is supposed to be main-stream hot? Huh. I don’t get it.

I think Brand looks like an agitated ferret.

Just as a note from someone who came from vintners on both sides: milk, properly aged, becomes cheese, and wine, improperly aged, becomes vinegar. So watch your similes and metaphors. Meanwhile, if anybody qualifies for a Captain Pissgums feature, or (more likely) permanent residence in the city of Onancock, it’s these MRA’s, since there’s nothing they like about women at all.

which is less important than the fact that david foster wallace was a hack

Isn’t he a writer? What?

Although I have to say, wouldn’t he make a great wacky pirate? It’s the beard, I think, and the chest hair. All he needs is a sarcastic parrot and some grog.

He’d need an eye patch. Tie the whole ensemble together. Maybe black out some teeth.

Improvement, but still fail. (And I was going to ask that too!)

Whiny kraken, that’s really nice, naht. And the female gaze definitely is a thing, and it’s becoming more and more of a thing. But I don’t even know what this conversation is about anymore.

@Avor:

How do you define :the female gaze”, out of curiosity?

There was supposed to be a quote mark in there, I think… Silly mistyping fingers.

So far as possible definitions we seem to have “a thing that is bad” and “being attracted to the wolfboy from Twilight”.

Azor: There’s a troll, commonly referred to as Mr. Al, who sockpuppets often. He’s been around less lately. If you aren’t him, any comments that don’t make any sense are probably references to his greatest hits. If you are him, get back to therapy.

Honestly, I find the speculation that every new troll is secretly Mr. Al to be *incredibly* dull.

I would like to hear more about “the female gaze” too. I’m a female person. I look at stuff all the time. Is that it?

cloudiah

Like right now, I’m looking at my cat, Hazel. Am I female gazing her?

@ozy

i don’t think every new troll is him. i just think this troll is him, because he jumped right out of the gate with one of boston baby’s particular hobbyhorses.

Woah, step back!

Anyway, Ozy, we see so much inanity and nonsense here that it’s fun to dole out a little of our own now and then. Now, we can’t create elaborate misogynistic languages, but we can run new trolls through a gauntlet of comments about David Foster Wallace and spitting they don’t understand.
