In yet another discussion of Arthur Goldwag’s latest post on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch blog (looking at MRAs bad-mouthing the men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in the Aurora shootings), longtime Men’s Rights Redditor Liverotto offers this intriguing take on what he sees as Goldwag’s motivations for criticizing the Men’s Rights movement:
Yeah, a dude actually wrote that, and a couple of people actually upvoted it.
I’m trying to understand the logic: Goldwag is growing older and more homosexual (do men usually become gay as they age?). But gay men age badly, which makes them mad at their “suitors.” So therefore Goldwag has come to hate the (mostly straight) men of the Men’s Rights movement?
Another highlight of the discussion: The r/mensrights regular who thinks I’m Paul Elam. No, really.
Evil? I just said she was defeated.
When the Crusaders get their cutie marks I will basically DAWWWWW FOREVER.
…I may or may not do that at every episode of that show.
@CassandraSays: Azor Ahai is a hero of the religion Melisandre follows. In the show they don’t really mention it much except where she calls Stannis the Lord of Light’s Chosen. She doesn’t go into what that entails but offhandedly mentions a part of the prophecy.
I find unfortunately that they didn’t delve far enough into Melisandre’s motivations this season. I hope they expand on it for the third one, because a lot of people I’ve seen comment don’t understand her at all and have a hard time understanding why Stannis keeps her around.
Face it, Dracula. Would a non-evil character be defeated in MLP: FIM?
I love when you guys figure out the new handles of old trolls!
Speaking of great classical art, I’m just starting Oedipus Rex.
NO SPOILERS PLEASE!
lord of light is waaaaaaay better than a song of ice and fire
Yeah. It was necessary to the plot. Because lessons.
I should stress that I don’t mean in combat.
Both Rainbow and Applejack got defeated in Fall Weather Friends, in which they learn that friendship is more important than competition!
…shut up not a nerd
@Ozy:
Yeah, I honestly can’t help smiling at the end of every episode despite the plot usually being rather predictable. It gets kind of weird when I watch a ton of episodes in a row and have a permanent “D’AAAWWWW” smilie on my face.
<3__<3
@BlackBloc
I just find it hilarious how consistent he is in needing to put down women he’s attracted to (even fictional ones that consort with dragons). It’s one of his strongest tells, that obsession with the idea that women think too well of themselves and have too many advantages. He can’t ever praise a woman without including some sort of underminey little snipe, or an outright cry of resentment.
Yeah! That too!!
Actually, wait, who am I kidding, I’m totally a nerd.
Lord of Light is a GREAT book. 🙂
Fair enough, Ozy and Dracula.
Even episodes I thought were awful (grrarrgh A Friend in Deed) have at least one moment that makes me <3_<3 (yay Smile Song!).

@ozy:
Oh lord. I remember that episode. What a terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible *gasp* terrible terrible terrible story. “Oh hey, violating boundaries is fine as long it turns out ok!” I was kinda put off by the reporter episode too… Oh, you offended the entire town… this isn’t just a “oh well, I guess I oopsed,” this is a “oh god I did a terrible thing jeeze I’m so sorry.”
Kirby: The reporter episode, I thought, was kind of ameliorated by how young the Crusaders are. In my head they’re like twelve/thirteen, which is a reasonable age to get carried away by something like that and then be horrified that you actually hurt someone.
Pinkie, however, is clearly an adult and gets no such reprieve.
And by “violating boundaries” I mean “violating boundaries to such a suberbly awful degree it becomes traumatizing.”
I’m more of a Sci-fi nerd than anything, I’m starting Peter Watts’ novel Blindsight tomorrow, and after that I’m gonna read Neal Stephenson’s Anathem, followed by whatever’s most easily accessible on my goodreads list after those two I imagine.
Aworld: ANATHEM IS AWESOME at one point they save the world with a protractor and NEO-PLATONISM and MATH MONASTERIES and *flails*
@Ozy:
That’s one thing that does help a little, they are young. But still, I thought that everyone in the episode kinda glazed over the severity of the thing much more than they should have. I dunno…
If I recall correctly, even by the end it was more “Well, I guess we should find some other way to be reporters” rather than “wow, we did something pretty bad and we should make up for it.”
Also @Ozy, I just finished the fanfic where Rainbow Dash adopts Scootaloo as a surrogate sister/daughter/itnevermakesthetermsoftherelationshipquiteclearrelationship. I have to say it’s one of the more heartwarming things I’ve ever read.
