Norwegian Men’s Rights blogger Eivind Berge released from jail. Court rules that threats on the internet do not count as incitement

Eivind Berge

Eivind Berge, the Norwegian Men’s Rights blogger who was arrested after making repeated death threats against police on his blog, has been released from jail. The country’s Supreme Court has ruled that his comments – in which, among other things, he talked about how killing police was on his “bucket list” – are not illegal. His property will be returned to him and he is evidently entitled to compensation for his time in jail.

As far as I can figure it from the Google-translated articles I’ve read, the Supreme Court has ruled that statements on the internet are not “public” and therefore his threats don’t count as “incitement” under the law. Here’s what one article says:

Supreme Court’s Appeals Committee believes statements Berge has made on his blog are not covered by the Freedom of the definition in the Penal Code. incitement to violence and murder of police officers are therefore not presented publicly in the legal sense and therefore is not criminal, says the Supreme Court.

Apparently the issue was a fairly narrow legal one. According to the same article, the law under which he was prosecuted (written long before the birth of the Internet) “operates with a public safety and publishing concept that … do not take account of electronic publishing on the Internet.” The majority on the Supreme Court, the article goes on to say, felt that “the indictment includes actions that are clearly worthy of punishment,” but that existing law does not allow punishment for statements made on the Internet.

If anyone here knows Norwegian, let me know if this is correct. Here and here are several more articles in Norwegian, translated by Google. Here’s an article in English, written before the Supreme Court rendered its judgment, that spells out the issues a little more clearly.

On his blog, Berge celebrates his victory in the courts:

My blog is legal after all. The police had no lawful basis for pursuing criminal charges against me. This means the case has collapsed for the prosecution and I will be entitled to compensation for the three weeks I spent in prison. I was arrested and jailed for speech which the Supreme Court has ruled is legal, so obviously the entire prosecution was utterly baseless.

He considers his release a giant victory for Men’s Rights:

Being a political prisoner provided a welcome boost to my activism. … The entire process has been tremendously empowering for the Men’s Rights Movement. This spectacular prosecution of an MRA sparked debate and demonstrated to the horror of the feminist establishment that there are more antifeminists out there than they knew. I am not some kind of extremist easily dismissed, even though some of my writings may appear somewhat ungenteel. While my kind of violent rhetoric is legal, it is no longer needed. We are strong enough to fight feminism in more elegant and subtle ways now.

I will highlight some of Berge’s “ungenteel” opinions in future posts.

See here and here for previous posts of mine on Berge, which include many examples of his “violent rhetoric.”

Let me be clear- TREATING DEPRESSION OF AN INCEL PERSON IS LIKE TREATING FEVER IN A LEUKEMIA PATIENT. As long as it treats symptoms and not a root cause therapy will never succeed in case of incels.

So what exactly is the root cause of someone being an incel? Like, is there a force field around them that can only be neutralized if someone else sets up dates for them?

weatherby, if affirmative action causes men to be incel due to hypergamy, and I think it’s obvious how I see incel by now, I don’t see why rape should be worse. But I said that I’m not quite sure it does cause them to be incel like Eivind does.

Oh, it’s just hypergamy–i.e., “EVERYONE IS HAVING SEX BUT MEEEEEEE1111111!!!!!!”

Same with government employees, to who I sent numerous letters.

Petition for redress of wrongs: YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG.

Seriously, you wrote letters to government employees asking them to help you find love.

How old are you, again?

“How old are you, again?”

How, I meant to ask you that. And how old does a virgin has to be to be called an incel, if you don’t mind?

I would hope for something like 15-17, but my best guess would be 20 something.

And that’s not “How”, that’s “Oh”.

The word “creepy” is one of those feminist buzzwords usually used by ultra-PC people against anybody they dislike.

I’m not an ultra-PC person, and I’m using it to describe you, based on nothing more than the evidence contained in just this thread. In fact, I’ve rarely encountered anyone creepier, and given that the mega-creepy Eurosabra also contributed to this discussion, that’s no mean feat.

And if you don’t understand why a reasonable person would consider you to be intensely creepy, can I suggest that you reread and reread your posts until the penny finally drops? Because unless you understand why you’re provoking this reaction from intelligent and reasonable people of both sexes, you’ll never make any progress.

Oh, and talking of being creepy…

Dracula, I never said that being assaulted isn’t traumatic but it is less likely to kill you once you survive it than a lifetime of incel. A rape victim might gain trust again and have a partner, normal sexual life, get married etc while incels never will.

OK, stop right there. You’ve already demonstrated that your empathy skills are not what they could be, so what the hell gives you the right to trivialise people’s experiences of rape? Have you ever been raped? Have you ever been close to someone who’s been raped? Have you ever had to deal with the long-term emotional fallout? Do you, in short, have even the faintest fucking clue what you’re talking about, or how gobsmackingly crass and offensive these stupid analogies are?

Rape is a traumatic event but a one time thing. Incel is with you every day.

You unbelievably fucking ignorant moron. I truly pity any woman who ever gets involved with you. And you’re damn lucky that the therapist that you “begged to fuck” didn’t sue you for harassment.

My skin is actually crawling when I read this stuff, and I may not even be on the same continent as you.

weatherby, if affirmative action causes men to be incel due to hypergamy, and I think it’s obvious how I see incel by now, I don’t see why rape should be worse.

We’ve already established that that’s because you’re an unbelievably fucking ignorant moron. And I don’t believe this is a minority opinion.

I see incel as a death sentence.

Diddums.

My parents deserve to be killed because they never set me up with anybody despite my pleadings. They failed to set me up with somebody even after I tried to kill myself and explicitly told them that the reason was my incel. Same with government employees, to who I sent numerous letters. They are murderers.

Oh, give me a break. I’ve never heard such pathetically melodramatic self-pitying whining in all my life.

Guess what? My parents never set me up with anybody either. I’d actually have been horrified at the idea, not least because the one and only time I went out with someone from exactly the same demographic as myself (in other words, the kind of person my parents would notionally approve of on paper), it was a calamitous disaster.

It’s not their initial fault I can’t get a woman. It’s their fault that they don’t want to help me get a woman- thereby they are sentencing me to incel, which is death.

It’s not their fucking job, that’s why. And if they’re decent, well-balanced individuals I’m not surprised they haven’t fixed you up with anybody. Not least because once it went horribly wrong, as it almost inevitably would do with attitudes as hair-raising as yours, they’d get the blame. And who in their right mind would want that?

Mr. Boddy has said on one occasion that a dry spell of six months and one day makes you FOREVER ALONE, and on another occasion it takes a couple of years.

Unfortunately, they seem to be getting the blame anyway.

Hey, Mr. Boddy isn’t from some Hindu minority or some deeply Christian subculture where the parents make arranged marriages, and his parents said, no, we’re not going to do that, but somehow he still got the idea that they should? I mean, this isn’t a culture thing, is it? Which if it were, would not excuse all the whining and the death threats.

Snowy, I wasn’t asking the therapist to fuck me in her office but in her free time. Nobody would ever know, she would not lose her job. On the other hand, there is a possibility I might have felt a lot better and a big personal tragedy I experienced might have been avoided.

Which tragedy am I talking about? I had two relationships in life… one actually, as my first relationship lasted only a couple of weeks, which didn’t prevent me from suffering because of it for two years and, believe me, I did want to find somebody else.

The tragedy happened in my second relationship, one I entered in 2009. We spent eight months together but never had sex. I was too shy to take her clothes off, we were both completely inexperienced and kept putting it off… Until she left me. That was not stated reason of her leaving me but the fact was that we never had sex in 8 months of relationship. So much about me being obsessed with it.
I cried like a baby after that happened, always wondering if we could have stayed longer together if I wasn’t such a pussy.

If I had sex with that therapist or a government issued date I would have the courage to have sex with my girlfriend.

Things being as they are, I lost my virginity this spring to a girl I had sex with twice before she showered me with insults, calling me needy and a lousy lay, after admitting she has had a boyfriend for the last two years. She told me I should be lucky that she let me try sex with her and she is probably right. Just like she was right about me being needy (could I have been anything else, getting a chance every 3 years?) and a lously lay due to my inexperience.

I’m 24 now, girls a lot younger than me have a lot more experience. I’m very scared. My time is running out fast and I’m very, very desperate.

Such were my experiences with women and sex. I told this to various therapists, all they did was give meds and nodded like fucking idiots. There was nothing they could do.
Most liberals have a cult of therapy but it doesn’t amount to much. And, of course, if it doesn’t work you will be blamed because you’re not trying hard enough. It’s always your fault.

ZombieVictim (If you have been murdered, you are already dead, no?):

What the fuck does this mean? Incel is more than just getting laid, it is something that prevents you from things like having a romantic partner forever and makes you unable to start your own family.

“Incel” (even if it were a legitimate thing, but I’ll bear with you for the nonce), doesn’t, “prevent you” from anything. It describes the state of affairs.

I’d say I was incel for about a year after I thought I was ready to start having sex. In the, roughly 30 years since then I’ve had 3-5 periods which would have qualified me for your governmental aid program.

Guess what… they ended. So I wasn’t being, “prevented from ever having a romantic partner”. I just wasn’t meeting women who wanted to sleep with me/date me.

Using outliers like Dalai Lama to prove that men should be happy with being incel is just about retarded as saying Susan Boyle shows how women can be incel.

Using outliers such as yourself to show how horrid a lack of getting laid is show how amazingly far whiner will go to justify their self delusions.

Oh FUCK YOU.

Do you realize you’re not fucking special? What sort of expectations do you have? You had two relationships already (‘a couple weeks’, you moron, that happens frequently in a relationship, everybody has had those), one of which was 8 months (which is slightly above average) long *at 24*. You’re not a virgin either. I didn’t kiss until 21 (of course I did lose my virginity at the same time though), didn’t have my first relationship that lasted more than a few weeks before 24. My friend is in a relationship for the first time and been with the girl 1 year, he was a virgin. He’s 33. Strangely he hasn’t fucking threatened to kill his parents over it. You fucking whiny brat.

*She told me I should be lucky that she let me try sex with her because it will never happen to me again

I said that you could start being classified as incel in my book after you failed to have sex or enter a relationship in over 6 months. But 6 months is nothing to, say, 30 years of incel some of the men I know experienced. Sodini was incel for 20 years. I think he was kinda crazy for wanting girls aged 20 but the fact is he did what he did because of incel. Posthumously branding him with some mental illness is an easy way out. I am convinced he would not do that if he only found somebody.

Death threats? All I said is that some people deserve to die. I mentioned no plans for doing that.
Funny how you say nothing about people who are actively committing manslaughter by refusing to save me from an almost certain death.
