Things I learned from Reddit: Feminists can’t be atheists. Also, they shouldn’t ever try to translate ancient Greek.

Things I learned on Reddit today.

1) From a_weed_wizard in the Men’s Rights subreddit, I learned that feminists cannot be atheists:

GirlWritesWhat agrees:

I’m not sure where those downvotes came from, since everything GirlWritesWhat says is by definition true.

2) From AskHistorians, I learned that feminists trying to correctly translate ancient Greek are evil man-hating monsters. Check out the downvotes on EggyMc!

Obviously, she’s retranslating with malice aforethought!

In this case, it’s easy to tell where at least some of the downvotes are coming from:  A link on the Men’s Rights subreddit.

MRAs: protecting ancient Greek history from MISANDRY since 2012!

There seems to be a lot of transphobia among radical feminist. TERFs are assholes. Am I trans yet? Does that mean I a man or am I the first FAAB trans woman?

I guess you’re a cis woman, as your last sentence implies. But I guessed Veronica was trans as soon as she said “radicals,” and clicking on her Twitter confirmed my prejudice.

Why do you care so much that she is trans scrape?

Veronica K. B. (@VeronicaInPink)

Because it makes my dislike of the TERFs “gratuitous”, amirite?

“confirmed my prejudice”

*slow clap*

Well, at least scrapemind calls it like it is?

So you’re prejudiced against trans people? What exactly is the point of your magic power of knowing if people are cis or trans?

Scrapemind, only you seem to care so much what someone is, why is that? Being so ignorant should be painful.

I find it interesting to observe differences between human groups. Apparently observing group differences makes one ignorant. Willful ignorance of group differences makes one enlightened.

“What exactly is the point of your magic power of knowing if people are cis or trans?”

And I want to play this game now — so scrapemind, what am I? (Oh gods, this is going to be hilarious, merely asking “what am I?” is pretty hilarious really)

scrapemind sounds to me like a budding NWOslave. Is it just me? That whole fixation on trans people, coupled with the ignorant vs. enlightened crap…

I don’t hate all rad fems, just the ones who attack trans folks.

I had no information to jump to a conclusion on what Argenti Aertheri was. I googled the name and if that’s her deviantART, I guess she’s female. Sorry if that wasn’t hilarious.

But that is not what you were doing now was it? You were dismissing my point based on this. I have heard the term “argumentum ad feminam” before, maybe there’s a need for an “argumentum ad trans feminam” now too?

No, obsessively trying to figure out if people are trans or not makes you ignorant. Thinking that someone calling TERFs bigoted radicals is “gratuitous” makes you ignorant. Not doing this doesn’t make someone enlightened, it’s just a baseline behavior of not being an asshole. But please, enlighten me. Why is it so important for you to know and comment on who is trans and who is cis? Why does this interest you so deeply?

I commented on it because I picked up a hint of the fight between women’s liberation and transgender activism, which I like to watch.

You weren’t “observing differences,” you were making a half-assed attempt at shit-stirring. Unfortunately for you, the shit’s headed in your direction. Whoops.

Uhhh that has nothing to do with anything at all in this thread. Again there is no reason besides transphobia that you are obsessed about someone’s gender identity because its utterly irrelevant to anything being discussed right now.

This fool hasn’t been reading here long if he thinks this isn’t a trans-inclusive place.

I didn’t expect a fight to break out in these comments. The regulars here are third-wavers.

Bullshit. You’re a disingenuous trolling twerp. You knew better.

You and Ruby really are made for each other.

I bet a million Internet Dollars you don’t even know what that means.

Is that conclusion based on the many pieces that were for class, or that my photos of orchids keep turning out to be the best of my conservatory photos? Oh, you mean my profile pic, which is pretty obviously a costume…

Female doesn’t really answer the cis or trans* question btw.

Also, ick, I’m going to have censor that if our trolls are going to be digging it up. (FYI scrapemind, the profile info is from years ago, I don’t recall DA having an other option back then, I guess I should thank you for my finding that?)

Aww the little troll thought he was going to cleverly provoking some kind of transphobia fueled fight among the feminists. So sorry to disappoint, asshole.

Well at least the trolls are taking shifts at the minute, rotation is so much better than two days straight of Owly.

Cliff, I don’t know the technical definition of third-wave feminism. What the term means to me is that, in opposition to radical feminists, lesbian separatists, and other second-wave feminists, they are pro-Slut Walk, pro-BDSM, pro-porn, and pro-trans. You can see the two waves fighting each other in Ms. Magazine comment threads.

Argenti, I guess cis.

Against lesbian separatism? I wouldn’t promote it, but they’re not actually hurting anybody, are they?

They’re excluding trans women.
