Here are a couple of, well, let’s just call them very intriguing questions asked of me by a Men’s Rights Redditor. Since I can’t respond to them on the Men’s Rights subreddit — I’m banned — I thought I’d respond here:
Mr. Levelate, allow me to answer your serious questions with some equally serious questions of my own:
I’ve wondered for a long time how people like you react to the men’s rights mantra of ‘all women are wombats’, when you see a woman who isn’t a wombat, how do you explain this?
Also, many MRAs advocate turning all squirrels into bologna, what makes you think squirrel bologna would taste better than regular bologna, and what would the world do with all those extra uneaten nuts, were it ever to come to that?
Here’s the thing, Mr. Levelate: those things you think feminists believe? FEMINISTS DON’T ACTUALLY BELIEVE THEM.
That “all men are rapists” quote from Marilyn French you guys like to pass around? That was from a character in a novel.
The number of radical feminists who seriously want to get rid of men, or a significant number of them, you could probably count on your fingers. I’m not sure how many MRAs want to make squirrel bologna, but the numbers are probably similar. And, fyi, there are actually more than a few MRAs who fantasize about breeding certain types of women out of existence, like this dude on The Spearhead, and a small army of MRAs and MGTOWers who pine for the imaginary future where babies are gestated in artificial wombs and women are all replaced by sexy sexbots.
Listening to MRAs talking about feminism is a bit like sitting in on a book club in which no one has read the book.
So…has Arks not read Schrodinger’s Rapist at all, or is he so fucking stupid that he thinks “common sense social cues” equals “kooky hollow earth lizard-people theory”?
I’LL LET YOU DECIDE.
(But the answer’s the second one).
7. There are rapists who exist and they have many victims = kooky hollow-earth lizard people theory.
Men can stop rape = Don’t be a rapist. If you’re not a rapist, don’t be friends with rapists. If you’re not friends with rapists, don’t give strangers who might be rapists an excuse to think that rape is acceptable, or a reason to think that you, too, are a rapist.
—
I would think that any decent excuse for a man who is not a rapist would be horrified by the idea of being friends with rapists.
I dunno, it’s like — in MRA speak! I’m not a gold digger. I’m not friends with gold diggers, and when women act like gold diggers, I don’t sit around and laugh about how stupid men are for dating gold diggers. When MRAs talk about the dangers of gold digging, I tune out because it doesn’t apply to me.
If the shoe fits, wear it. If it doesn’t fit…. then don’t wear it. It’s not that hard.
OFFS, Arks, you’ve successfully just killed any hope for a good-faith conversation.
@Tudgey: Women should be especially on guard compared to men and towards men despite rape not being a gendered problem and despite men making up the overwhelming majority of victims of violent crime and therefore having more cause to be on guard, and men should just shut up and accept this = lizard people live inside the Earth, Jews control society and will summon Mayan aliens at the end of 2012.
Arks: You’re gonna need to show your work there, because I’m calling bullshit on your math. Or, alternatively, you could find a source for the 60/40 figure that’s not your arse…
Arks: The majority of feminists do believe that all men are rapists, and it’s not just a position held by radfems. Preposterous concepts such as “schrodinger’s rapist,” “men can stop rape” and “rape culture,” though completely divorced from reality, spell out pretty clearly what these harpies are really thinking.
Which of those things says, “All men are rapists”?
Men can stop robbery. Does that mean all men are robbers?
Hollywood is a “movie culture” does that mean everyone works in the movie business?
Ozy: Schrodinger’s rapist is paranoia. It is the woman equivalent of crossing the street when you see a black person and it’s not a reasonable position to hold at all. If you’re a rape victim then I understand your fear, but it’s a ridiculous concept to teach to women as a whole.
So you think we ought not teach children to be careful of strangers? After all, it’s just paranoia, most people won’t attack them.
@hellkell: Don’t kid yourself. Soap dropping jokes are extremely common and accepted. It’s used as a threat against male criminals all the time.
That would be the rape culture you deny exists.
Buttman: White on Black rape is so rare that even a man-hating feminist should have allow innocence until proven guilt.
Citation fucking needed.
When you’re driving in a car, Arks, do you wear a seatbelt? After all, there’s very little chance you’ll actually be in an accident.
Precautions. It’s not paranoid to take them, but it is pretty offensive that you think they’re unjustified. I’ve been in a car accident or two, and the seatbelt was handy. And I’ve been raped, so it’s not exactly an imaginary fear I have.
What the CDC study says…
Nearly one in five American women (18.3%) have been raped; the comparable number for men is one in 71 (1.4%). Rape here is defined as penetration. 4.8% of men reported being made to penetrate. Even if all of those instances were with women (they weren’t) that means that 18.3% of women have been raped, and 6.2% of men have been raped.
I hope people better at statistics than I am will fisk Arks’ claims.
Hey let’s have a straw-poll on Arks’ assertion that most feminists think ‘all men are rapists’!
If you agree with that sentiment, copy/paste/add a comment which copies this blockquote (with bold tags, so there’s no ambiguity):
Arks: Men are victims of crime, but they also commit the vast majority of violent crime, sexual and other. And the overwhelming majority of rape and sexual assault victims are women.
Ha! Got the fake HTML tags right, b0rked the blockquote.
Except rape *is* largely gendered, and it disproportionately (NOTE: not exclusively) affects women.
Men do make up the overwhelming majority of victims of non-sexual violent crime, but the majority of perpetrators in this case are still men. So yeah, if you’re walking down an alley alone at night and some dude starts following you, feel free to worry that he might be out to mug you, because he might be out to mug you.
Duh.
And I fucking well KNOW that all men are NOT rapists.
Silly Cloudia, Arks says women shouldn’t worry about rape! Shouldn’t that be good enough for you ladies?
Oh, and Tulgey, go to the forums and search for The Book of Arks. Laffs galore!
@cloudiah:
You’re comparing the lifetime vs. last 12 months statistics. Lifetime statistics are inherently unreliable because you’re at more risk of false negatives when it comes to recalling childhood trauma.
Recent statistics are more reliable, and they paint a clear picture:
Men made to penetrate in 12 months: 1.1%
Women raped in 12 months: 1.1%
An equal number.
@GingerSnaps:
Already proven wrong by statistical evidence. Men are 50% of rape victims and women commit 40% of rapes.
Oh and for reference, the woman who wrote Schroedinger’s Rapist also parrots the extensively debunked “1 in 6” (or 1 in 4) figure as part of the justification for why she acts the way she does. So you don’t even have to take my word for it, there’s also hard statistical evidence that she’s completely fucking bonkers!
Arks: Once again, you really need to show your math with that 60/40 figure, or point out a peer-reviewed study that gives that number.
orly? Where is this hard statistical evidence, Arks?
Arks, your comprehension of statistics is on par with your reading comprehension.
That is to say, you lack both.
Arks has a really high bullshit/syllable ratio. I’m impressed.
Didn’t someone thoroughly debunk those stats last time an MRA (possibly Arks) posted them here? If so maybe we can find a link.
Wait is Arks really arguing that, when you’re talking about statistics, a much smaller sample size is more accurate than a larger one?
