New Reddit theory: Girls develop early in order to entrap guys and send them to prison

So someone on Reddit posted a video showing time-lapse video of a girl from infanthood to 12 years old. Naturally, Redditors responded with creepy pedophilia jokes, and one Redditor (speaking for many, judging by the numerous upvotes) took the opportunity to complain about just how hard it is for dudes to not have sex with underage girls. Apparently these girls deliberately develop earlier than boys as part of an elaborate plot to entrap guys and send them to jail.

Thanks to ShitRedditSays for pointing me to this latest bit of egregious Redditry.

What the fuck are you talking about?

That you labelled the people offended or annoyed by the rather obviously misogynist ‘Dear Muslima’ as ‘random butthurt internet people’ indicates that civility is really only important towards white dudes. Trust us, that letter was not even teeny tiny bit civil, and you have given the game away by not seeing the problem with it~

“Haha, you guys are never going to let “Dear Muslima” go, are you? I would imagine he’s got more important things to worry about than a bunch of butthurt internet people.”

This is where you spelled it out, but you came in all butthurt about Pharyngula in the first place, so it is pretty rich that you are fussing at us about tone, especially on a blog with the tagline, Misogyny, I mock it.

Based on that sentence alone I’m calling “butthurt Dawkins fanboy”.

tepid nice guy-ism

You mean the Roissy thing? I’d be interested in how you spun that.

nor do you care about inclusiveness in atheism; not really, anyway.

No, not really, because I despise the atheist community and want no part of it. I could give a fuck about your inclusiveness; it’s just that I find it endlessly fascinating watching assholes wonder why no one want to join their club. Dawkins isn’t exempt; he’s totes an ass. Not as bad as Myers and not nearly as bad as the Pharyngulites but nonetheless an ass. His books, however, are excellent primers re. atheist justification and I recommend them. That’s all.

that meanie atheists somehow draw your ire more than misogyny?

Yeah, I guess. In this particular case, at least. I don’t have to justify a damn thing to you. I saw your mention of Pharyngula and realized it was going to pass without comment, and since I hate that place I commented.

Hey, it’s okay, this member of the atheist club is happy with you not being in it, jerkface.

and since I hate that place I commented.

so you admit you came out of the woodwork just to whine about some place you hate XD

Yeah, I guess I did mention Richard Dawkins offhandedly, once, in connection with a post he made that I thought the Pharyngulites sort of overreacted to.

You got me, I’m all about defending the old white dudes!

Also, FTR, that I don’t consider the jackass’ opinion relevant does not mean that I ignored you, Kladle. I just didn’t really have a response beyond “A lot of folks do actually find plenty of relief there, including me”. It’s not good that people fuck up so regularly and obviously on ableism, and while I was there I tried to help at least a little tiny bit.

That’s ok, you responded some. I would say more but I don’t want to encourage the Eurotroll. At least you and Xanthe acknowledged some of the problems with the place.

Seriously though, that is what the tone argument is about, more than anything else. Defending the status quo. Oh I realize you think that making a tweak to include atheist dudes is the most radical thing ever, and totally makes you “edgy” and “wild”, but it is more boring and mild compared to actual change in the status quo.

You know, I’m not really sure what you’re lying about in its entirety, because there’s a lot of good options, but I’m going to bet you’re not really an atheist. Complaining about how atheism is ‘driving people off’ while you as an atheist proudly support driving people off

(See:

I would imagine he’s got more important things to worry about than a bunch of butthurt internet people.

I’m pretty sure you can be firm about your social justice crap

)
Sets off concern troll radars like whoa. Especially now that you’re switching gears on us again.

I saw your mention of Pharyngula and realized it was going to pass without comment, and since I hate that place I commented.

But you can let so many misogynist comments slide; you can even support them. Right up until someone else points out you fucked up in two different ways, anyway. Come now, are you really going to try this?

Hi MRAL.

Hm, I think you’re right.

BTW, I passed my quals.

I’m an atheist, not someone who really stakes a lot on it or gets involved in any community. I’m not “complaining” per se, I don’t really care. I just find Pharyngula obnoxious, and oh by the way, it’s not doing atheism any favors in the PR department. But I don’t really care about that, I mostly just find it obnoxious.

But you can let so many misogynist comments slide; you can even support them.

Yeah, I guess. Except for the supporting them part. Again, I don’t have to justify myself to you. If thinking of me as a misogynist will help you sleep tonight, go for it.

Hi MRAL.

Wrong, again.

Xanthë

[i]t’s not doing atheism any favors in the PR department.

Well, if it upsets weak tea, pallid little whiners like you, then it’s doing something right in my book.

Rutee Katreya

I’m not “complaining” per se, I don’t really care

You are not a very good liar. Had you actually not cared, at all, you’d have left (Or at least, moved onto other threads). You’re not a regular (Well, your persona isn’t, as we are aware it’s you), so checking back on a thread is… quite anomalous if you don’t actually care.

But I don’t really care about that

Oh, I imagine you don’t care about the atheist PR Department; last I checked, you were busy making half-assed arguments for agnosticism. As I said, concern trolling.

Yeah, I guess. Except for the supporting them part

You’ve already done it. I think you know this. Even if you aren’t actually our recurring waste of space, you pretty specifically denigrated opposition to misogyny, as if their complaint weren’t valid.. And again, even if you are not our recurring pimple, I doubt this is the first time that you have supported misogyny above and beyond the call that is normal for our society.

Wrong, again.

No, no, I don’t think so. Don’t you have homework? I am afraid I’m not as good at reading style as some of the other regulars, good catch VoIP

Rutee, you’re one to talk- you don’t care about “the jackass'” opinion, but will reply with multiple essays posthaste. What can I say, arguing on the Internet is addicting. Anyway, I do sort of enjoy talking shit about Pharyngula, so I care about that.

CassandraSays

See, here’s the thing. If you don’t like a particular atheist blog, and you’re not determined to recruit everyone to atheism*, then if you don’t like that blog and don’t really care that much about it, you just ignore it. Investing this much time and energy in screaming about how nasty the commenters there are on another blog indicates that you do in fact care, for whatever reason.

There are feminist blogs that I never read or comment on because I don’t like the blogger, or the commenters. It’s a big internet – no matter what your interest is, you can usually find a blog that covers it that’s more to your liking, so to obsess over that one and it’s incivility
is…odd.

* As far as I know, we are not actively recruiting at present, because that would be creepy.

You are posting on a site about mocking misogyny in the men’s rights movement…just to complain about some atheist site….

Rutee, you’re one to talk- you don’t care about “the jackass’” opinion, but will reply

You’re not the only person here, and I am aware of the limitations of incivillity; you’re not the audience, mediocrity. You’re my stage prop.

Rutee Katreya

At least you and Xanthe acknowledged some of the problems with the place

If I thought it was perfect for everyone, I would rather unreservedly be recruiting everyone to it.

That said, ignoring MRAL (Really folks, it is), I really don’t think a safe space can exist if the requisite is “Is extraordinarily good at all forms of -ism”. I have literally not seen a single place without regular fail on at least one axis or another. C’est la Vie; provided we all work at it, next generation will likely be better.

I mean, a perfect example here would be a feminist blogger called Heart. I do not like her, and I do not like the commenters she attracts. I solve this problem by not reading or commenting on her blog. See how easy that is?

CassandraSays

(And yeah, MRAL has been busy lately. When he sent me a private message on Jezebel that was a perfect example of his unfortunate issue with not being willing to accept boundaries, in my opinion.)
