dozens of upvotes misogyny reddit shit that never happened sluts whores

Reddit quote of the day: “I lost a really good friend because he didn’t want to believe his wife was a [six expletives deleted].”

On AskReddit, lostabro33 tells the sad story of how he, er, lost a bro. The tl;dr version:

I lost a really good friend because he didn’t want to believe his wife was a fucking whore bitch slut cunt lying piece of shit.

Here’s the full quote. As you’ll notice, it has 1314 upvotes.

Yeah, that totally happened.

Is Reddit officially the worst place on earth?

(Sadly, I know the answer to that is no. But, damn, Reddit, you really to seem to want to take that number one slot.)

(Thanks to ShitRedditSays for finding this, er, gem.)

EDITED TO ADD: [TW: Child porn]

Speaking of shitty things on Reddit: There was more child porn up on Reddit, this time a post in r/videos with more than 900 upvotes and numerous positive comments, with a link to a video that showed the sexual abuse of a six-year-old boy. The folks in SRS have been talking about it; after numerous complaints from SRSers to the r/videos mods, Reddit admins, YouTube, and the FBI, the video has apparently been removed from YouTube. More details, and a link to the original r/videos thread, in the SRS thread devoted to it. There’s also a lot of discussion of it in the comments to this post here.

I was always under the impression the “no emotion, above it all” thing came from a combination of our culture’s obsession with being “rational” tied to the coding of emotions as feminine. Thus it takes strong, manly stuff to be unaffected by appeals to soft, feminine emotion and make the hard calls. This then slides over into not just not being resistant to appeals but simply incapable of feeling soft emotions.

4chan is pretty psycho, too. Yes, they’ve done some vigilantism that can make the public feel good (like finding the woman throwing puppies into a river in Eastern Europe), but they’ve also done some pretty disgusting things, too.

Not contested. 4chan isn’t a net good as an aggregate, although the people that take the anonymous name (It’s not a single organized group, really) may be. But fuck, they’ll at least turn in people who post CP, and that makes them better than Reddit.

Also, does anyone have this idea where this meme of, “I feel no emotional response to things, ergo I’m superior and more logical” CAME from? I find it really annoying

Ultimately, it’s tied to western notions of rationality that have been in place for centuries. This isn’t really novel, it’s just facing somewhat more pushback now (But not a lot).

Re: Shunning, I suppose I was unfair, I forgot about Milkboy’s reactions to kids in swimsuits. CAn’t we just shun them both though? Seriously, there has to be something that yields just… mass shunning, even if David won’t ban them.

Y’know, I’ve been wanting to say this since Magz made the relevant comment, but it seemed in poor taste; however, seeing as some kind of line has clearly fucking been crossed, fuck it:

Just because Magdelyn is a moral destitute doesn’t mean you have to join that number. I recommend apologizing, it’s not just her you’re insulting. Jesus fuck, that was terrible.

I would like to chime in to say that, as a rape victim who spent many years feeling utterly miserable because I felt it was entirely my fault, I really don’t appreciate kiki’s comments. I find the MRM’s hatred and violent rhetoric against women – particularly rape and abuse victims – repulsive and always have done, even back in my dark days when I felt so worthless.

I used to be interested in father’s rights because I was also pretty scarred from being treated like a human rope in a game of tug of war between my parents and mistakenly believed the father’s rights crowd was all about putting a stop to all that. Imagine my disappointment to find out all they were really about was having a firmer grasp of the rope!

So yeah, kiki – not cool.

Mags is pretty pathetic and morally reprehensible in a lot of ways, but attacking her for the way she reacted to her rape is inexcusable.

That said, Mags, is it not just a tiny bit hypocritical to whinge on about “slander” while implying, without evidence, that David must have watched the video himself?

Falconer

@Shadow: Yes, Mags has said she has been raped. She followed it with, but it was my fault, thus implying that she held the rapist harmless from the consequences of hir actions. I actually started to feel bad for her.

I am chronically late to the party on this thread, ain’t I? Still, allow me to add my voice to the chorus: Kiki, that was really crass and hurtful. Lots of people get raped every day, and a significant number of them believe that it was their fault. This does not make them bad people. I think you need to apologize to Magdelyn.

Does he ever write about anything other than Manboobz?

Bostonian

Well he has to write about Manboobz to fight the torrent of abuse that happens to young boys as a direct consequence of people condemning it.

Because doing anything in the real world would take too much effort.

The whole thing is pretty bad for many reasons, but here are my favorites:
– He links to a comment of David

http://manboobz.com/2012/04/19/reddit-quote-of-the-day-i-lost-a-really-good-friend-because-he-didnt-want-to-believe-his-wife-was-a-six-expletives-deleted/comment-page-2/#comment-147199
advice mad to see the thread, and ergo the cp exist. Ts thinks that’s the same as encouraging people watching the video, as if all the comments didn’t make it clear enough. Hell, the comments in the SRS thread about the thread linking to the video was enough for me.

– he’s doing a piece that starts with cp on reddit, and ends up being mostly about magdelyn. WTF? How do his priorities works?

– he pretends that Manboobzers and David in particular don’t care about rape victims, especially males, and at the same time doesn’t understand what people might get pissed off at magdelyn after she repeatedly fails to acknowledge reddit issue with cp, even though people keep telling her it’s happening at the very moment. He also is selectively blind, since he missed every comment expressing chock, disgust, sadness for the presence of the video, compassion for the boy, anger for the reddit letting it happen and cheering for the rape.

Though I must admit I agree on one point, and that is that I don’t know why felix went and looked at it, getting context isn’t worth one more person watching the video. (well, a FBI agent will/have probably watched it. that’s obviously different) I really don’t think he should had done that.

Yes… People were accusing mags of not caring about child porn because she has a different opinion than us.

Yeah, that’s what annoys me. I WANT to like Mags, and people like kiki piss me off.

Hmm, I think we’re conflating two things here.
Someone saying “I feel like it’s my fault.” is one thing. That person claiming that victims of rape (women usually, in these discussions) share responsibility in rapes in some cases because of their own experience can rightly be criticized. Correct me if I’m just projecting here, but mags makes pretty anti-woman and victim pro mra comments. Also girlwriteswhat talks of her experience being raped and how it was her fault to attack women and FBI stats, etc. Therein lies the misogyny and the difference.

That’s how I see it. I don’t think mags or GWW are being attacked for their rape experience per se.

As far as mags getting ragged on here, it’s because there was a shocking case of omg barf and horror going on and she took that opportunity to defend reddit, like that was the priority. It was irony because the victim was a MALE in this case. So she’s rightfully criticized, again from this juror’s perspective.

indifferentsky

btw, I’m mentioning GWW, because I mentioned her before, same subject same critique. IMO she hates women and processes her experience as she does because it gives her more control over it. Probably helps her avoid breakdowns. That’s my speculation.

IS: a rape victim saying “I feel like this rape was my fault” isn’t the same as them saying “all rape victims are responsible”. One is acceptable, the other not. One is the person expressing a feeling and dealing the way they can and want with a traumatic experience, the other is a very misogynistic judgment.

There is no need to drag magdelyn’s life in the conversation, or to speculate on it, (both being incredibly insensitive to do) to condemn her behavior in the previous thread.

I don’t have much time today for blog commenting, so in quick summary:
• child abuse is wrong, and there’s no getting away from the fact that children are legally deemed unable to consent to sexual acts (see the definition of statutory rape).
• the video should have been taken down ASAP by the YouTube admins, and the Reddit thread shut down ASAP by the r/video sub-Reddit’s moderators. Their laxity in not doing that is an indictment of their failure to to do their jobs, and possibly their sense of morals as well.
• that the video was heavily upvoted by subscribers to the sub-Reddit (by 2 to 1 against), and presumably many of the upvoters watched the video in question, is a moral indictment against those Redditors. Doubly so those who commented favourably on the thread.
• that Mags’ reflexive stance was to deny that child porn was being enthusiastically upvoted (and presumably watched) and instead to rush to defend the reputation of Reddit, shows where her priorities lie, and the sexual abuse of children – of boys – is not one of them. She must be a pretty horrible moderator of r/mr I think.
• kiki’s comment that women who blame themselves for their rapes are likely to be MRM supporters is I think rather less reprehensible for being an obvious failure of logic, and not so clearly thought out and reprehensible as Mags’   A W E S O M E   unwillingness to consider any case of wrongdoing on her favourite website.

indifferntsky: kiki said that because Mags said it was her fault she was raped, that made her the kind of woman who would support the MRM.

She was being attacked for her rape experience.

The scene that’s CP is very, very brief, (at the 6.25 mark)

I haven’t seen this video so what exactly is taking place?

Ponkz writes ‘I would like to chime in to say that, as a rape victim who spent many years feeling utterly miserable because I felt it was entirely my fault’

Why would you feel that? If some stranger gets into your house at night while you’re sleeping and makes you have sex then that is rape under the law. Do people feel guilty if a burglar robs their house?

Falconer

Wait, ToySoldier’s second paragraph (“I only saw one ridiculously lucky kid.”) doesn’t have anything to do with the rest of his post, which is generally condemning child porn. It’s just stuck out there, with no quotation marks or in a blockquote format or whatever.

It seems like it’s a quote.

Perhaps I’m giving too much of a fuck, but I think he should edit that to make it clear whether the boy was a “ridiculously lucky kid” is his opinion, or not.

“I only saw one ridiculously lucky kid.” is a quote from the reddit thread.

TS can be quite the idiot, and is very hypocritycal, but he’s not that bad.

Clear writing without ambiguity is not TS’s strong suit. If he were to adopt a communication style wherein what he wrote made clear what he was trying to say, his whole schtick would break down, and he wouldn’t be able to cause threads to go over 1500 comments with various iterations of “I never said that” and “you’re misinterpreting me”. And then what would he do with his time?
