Men’s Rights Redditors to Rebecca Watson: How dare you say we hate women, you [obscene gender-related slur]

NOTE: Today is Day Two of the Man Boobz Pledge Drive. If you haven’t already, please consider clicking the little button below and sending a few bucks my way.

Thanks! (And thanks again to all who’ve already donated.) Now back to our regularly scheduled programming:

So the other day, the atheist blogger Rebecca Watson, aka Skepchick, had this little conversation on Twitter:

Watson, you may recall, got herself onto the Men’s Rights radar a few months back, after a brief comment she made in a podcast — suggesting that perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea for a guy to hit on woman he’s never spoken to before while the two of them are alone in an elevator at 4 AM – somehow turned into a Big Fucking Thing on the Internet, because how dare she say such a thing, it’s creep-shaming, she must hate men, bla bla bla.

So, anyhoo, one Men’s Rights Reddit noticed this little Twitter exchange, and posted it to the Men’s Rights subreddit. And there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. MRAs hating women? How dare she suggest such a thing!

Here are some of the things that assorted Men’s Rights Redditors posted in response, to remind us all that the Men’s Rights movement isn’t all about shitting on women. Let’s start with this lovely rebuttal, boasting nearly 60 net upvotes:

This comment inspired a long and winding discussion of the word “cunt,” and why it’s like totally ok to use it all the time, because in England the UK people call men “cunts” as well.

Some got a little carried away:

This little exchange came with a side order of irony:

Speaking of fantasy, here’s a strange bit of paranoia, which nonetheless drew upvotes from the very same people who are outraged that Watson was a bit creeped out by a dude she didn’t know asking her to come to his hotel room at 4 AM:

And here’s still more evidence that MRAs, despite their many egregious flaws, do at least have vivid imaginations:

Some other comments, all of which got at least a few upvotes from the MR regulars:

Funny how most of feminism is shitting on men and generally being a cunt under the guise of empowerment and “equality.”

She should do something about that uni-brow.

She’s only in the atheist community to give her a broader audience for her hateful attention whoring.

Let’s end with this eloquent plea for people to not give a shit if MRAs hate women:

The folks in the Men’s Rights subreddit are currently debating whether or not to change the subreddit’s slogan, which is currently: “Mens’ Rights: Earning Scorn from Bigoted Feminists and White Knights Since 2008.”

So let me humbly suggest:

Mens’ Rights: Like it’s even relevant if mens rights is anti women in regard to if mens rights is a movement about addressing mens issues.

Or the even punchier:

Men’s Rights: i’m tired of not using the term “cunt”.

MRAs, you’re welcome.

@Quackers

Its not worth the effort. Picking AntZ’ brain is like spending years breaking into Fort Knox, only to find out that it’s empty

While all of you bird brains do your homework, I am going home to my FOREIGN BRIDE.

The one you believe is in imminent danger of leaving you and taking your sons with her? You mean THAT bride right?

@ Zarat

I imagine the reason PSA screening isn’t covered is because PSA screening in the general population does significantly more harm than good. PSA levels are a lousy way of picking up cancer: lots of false positives, leading to invasive procedures that harm men, and no reduction in mortality.

But, hey, don’t let the facts worry you too much.

1) Every health plan must be reviewed to “take into account the health care needs of women”, but no provision for health care needs of men.

Obviously if an effort has to be taken into account the health needs of women, it is to be assumed that health plans are mainly taking in the needs of men. This would not be included if health plans were already taking into account both sexes.

3) Establishes an “Office of Women’s Health” within the Office of the Secretary.

Again, women’s health mainly means shit that affects women- pregnancy, cervical cancer, menopause, breast cancer (although some men are affected as well) etc. Why should there not be an office for women’s health? all other healthcare deals with men AND the diseases women and men are both affected by.

4) Mandates that the Secretary of Health “monitor the Department of Health and Human Services’ offices, agencies, and regional activities regarding women’s health ..”

See my response to 3

5) “Establishes a Department of Health and Human Services a Coordinating Committee on Women’s Health ..”

See my response to 3

6) “Establish a National Women’s Health Information Center ..”

See my response to 3

Now I’m done.

There is no coverage for prostate health, including prostate exams, and no coverage for PSA exams.

Coverage where? In “Obamacare?” Perhaps because insurance companies already do that?

Also if you’re going to use the USPSTF site then you’ve passed over the prostate exams page.

http://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/uspstf/uspsprca.htm

Though that site didn’t have anything about PSA Exams, Cancer.gov did. Apparently it’s still a controversial test and varies from doctor to doctor on when it’s used and how.

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/PSA

Along with that there are at least 29 states that already have state mandates when it comes to prostate cancer screening:

http://www.ncsl.org/issues-research/health/prostate-cancer-screening-mandates.aspx

I find it interesting that you claim there are notprovisions for men yet I can find them with a few clicks in google search. Where are you getting your facts?

There is always going to be disparity when it comes to individuals, but over all coverage for women until the last decade has been lacking to say the least. Of course women need help with these things, because they aren’t considered part of the normal, default health care plans. Because up until the past few decades those plans have only been for men. Why would they have language specific to men if they were already created for men?

Antz, I’m going to be polite here. Please go to this thread where many posters besides Quackers have addressed your points:

http://manboobz.com/2012/03/05/if-rush-limbaugh-could-draw-cartoons/#comments

This whole posting the same thing over and over again in different threads because you don’t like the answers you got in the last one just makes you look a bit silly. Not trying to insult you, just telling it like it is.

I would attempt to address your points myself but a) as a Brit what I know about the American health system and ObamaCare wouldn’t fit on the back of a postage stamp and b) I am currently convalescing in bed, absoloutely loaded with the cold and really don’t have the energy to go through all the stuff you’ve posted. I also note that some of your sources are MRA sites, which I generally avoid at the best of times and I’m really not in the frame of mind to read through a load of shite about how evil and horrrible I am for having a vagina.

Please address zhinxy, blitzgal or at least have the courtesy to address Quackers. This shouting and screaming is just tedious and makes you look really foolish.

Right, I’m off to drink a CUP OF TEA.

@Shadow

Yes. You appear to be right.

@anecdata

Thank you for posting that. I’ve heard there are issues with prostate cancer screening too http://www.cancer.gov/newscenter/pressreleases/2009/plcoprostateresults

They must be consulting doctors and research teams when they write these. I have an extremely hard time believing that prostate cancer screening is being left out because of feminists…I mean come on. Occam’s Razor.

That being said I don’t see why they can’t include it anyway.

Look at this!

“Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening: men The USPSTF recommends one-time screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm by ultrasonography in men aged 65 to 75 who have ever smoked.”

Why isn’t there one for WOMEN included?!?!?!? RARRGHJHjhjasBIGOTS!!!!11

I’m really confused. I read the Rush Limbaugh thread, saw this Zarat guy making a bunch of claims, and then saw everyone responding to him with various answers and references and sourced rebuttals, none of which he actually acknowledged. Then I come to THIS thread and he’s starting over again with the same claims even though they were already debunked. I guess he’s like, the resident goldfish when it comes to arguing or something?

And “The USPSTF strongly recommends screening men aged 35 and older for lipid disorders.”
But “The USPSTF strongly recommends screening women aged 45 and older for lipid disorders if they are at increased risk for coronary heart disease.”

Why are they unfairly FORCING men to be screened earlier than women. Misandry!

I am revising my department’s WEB PAGE!

Quackers, good catch. I was wondering how long it would take someone to find ITEM ONE on that list. Lol.

So, 134 vs 1. Still not even, eh?

And amazingly nobody else has an intelligent comment to make, so MRAs win by the score of 134 to 1 (with only one goal scored by Quackers, a remarkable achievement given her record).

Dinner time! My FOREIGN BRIDE has prepared something special, so I’ll have to say “quack quack”. Those of you who don’t speak duck can ask Quackers to translate 🙂

I just SPRAINED my finger scrolling past all ANTZ’s trolling crap.

*waits for ambulance for women only to zoom up to me to take me to woman only hospital to get three days of bedrest for sprained finger because I am sitting in the street crying*

*hearts* Obamacare.

In fact, the ambulance just might drive over some men on the sidewalks who are men and therefore undeserving of any care! I think I’ll ask the WOMAN driver to do just that.

FACTS NOT LIES!
