Here’s a little exchange from Reddit Men’s Rights subreddit that shows what exactly we’re up against here. By which I mean: complete dunderheads.
To properly enjoy the exchange below, you need to know that the “Sadly… yes” link leads to a video of Gloria Allred.
Here’s the video of Hillary Clinton Gloria Allred:
Well, hey, they do look sort of similar, if you ignore the name “Gloria Allred” in giant letters at the start, and sort of squint your eyes, and disregard the fact that her voice is not actually that of Hillary Clinton, but of an entirely different woman. Gloria Allred, to be specific. I mean, heck, Hillary Clinton’s only been on the national political scene for, like, twenty years; it’s not as if anyone could be expected to know what she looks or sounds like, or that her name isn’t spelled “Gloria Allred.” And it’s not like Gloria Allred is ever on TV or anything.
But the important thing is, even though Gloria Allred is not Hillary Clinton:
Kragmoor’s point still stands!
KRAGMOOR’S POINT STILL STANDS!!
That’s about the level of care one expects from an MRA, yepperoni XD
It’s fun to have clowns to laugh at while between bouts of actual activism, ain’t it?
I’d love to have the same ambition, brilliance, and dedication as Hillary Clinton. Is all I’m saying.
They should have linked the quote by Hillary Clinton claiming that men were oppressing women by having the nerve to die.
@Rutee- Exactly. The Feminist Hive Mind is full well aware that sniping at the opposing side on the internet will not change the world by itself. So we go and DO THINGS.
This is why some of our demands actually get addressed.
MRAs will only be happy if THIS is reality and women are literally erased from the public sphere entirely:

Holly: I dunno, if someone believed that women and men were substantially different, I wouldn’t really believe they could be meaningfully classified as a feminist. But then I’m suspicious of the claims of “equity feminists” to be feminists in the first place.
@Holly:
I think that calling someone a “bigot” is too harsh, though. And it’s not going to win anyone over. I’d rather Allred explain what feminism is and get people to say, “Hm, I suppose the stereotypes I had about feminists being fun-hating man-haters was wrong”. As it is, she’s only antagonizing people.
They’re not the opposite side. MRAs are clowns. The opposite side is more like the bastards who create anti-choice legislation. People who actually do something, yanno?
@Polliwog The problem about that is that video games are treated the same as movies. The MPAA’s rating system is not government mandated nor regulated, nor are there legal penalties for allowing underage children into R/NC-17 films. The ESRB ratings serve the exact same purpose: to inform parents and allow them to decide if a game is appropriate for their children.
In fact, it would not surprise me if the ESRB ratings were modeled after the MPAA ratings.
This erroneous view of video game regulation is not limited to Mrs. Clinton, and it’s certainly no reason hate her; many, many politicians espouse the idea that “video games with adult themes ought to be treated like movies!” ignoring the fact that they already are.
Ozy – If someone believed women and men were substantially different, they would be kind of a bigot. Maybe not like the absolute worst kind of bigot, but yeah, that’s pretty much bigotry right there.
Crumb – It may be harsh, I just don’t think it’s inaccurate.
Although I think a gentler approach is probably “hey, if you don’t support discrimination against women, you’re already kind of a feminist.”
Regarding the video games thing – is it possible the person was confusing Hillary Clinton with Tipper Gore?
My recollections of the anti-HRC stuff from the early ’90s centered around “OMG she has a CAREER! That [someone said] she thinks she’s going to keep when she’s First Lady!!!”
I turned 16 or 17 too late for this to matter to me. AFAIK, stores don’t have an ironclad policy against 17 year olds buying MA games, which the movie industry does.
I don’t really care about protecting kids from sex or violence, mind, but unless stores started an ironclad policy about MA games, they’re getting unequal treatment because they were in unequal situations.
Oh come on…these doofs can barely tell young women apart. Why would they be any better at telling old women apart? Why would a guy who can’t differentiate between an Astin Martin and a Mazerati be any better at telling a Ford from a Dodge? (I’m speaking their own language, I hope you notice.) You’re trying to make Nutter Butter lovers out of guys who hate peanuts. It won’t work I tell you, it just. Won’t. Work.
I’m not a fan of Hilary’s politics, but a lot of the people that despise her don’t do so because of her politics. Actually, hating Hilary based on her stance on video games is far more reasonable than hating her based on her being too “aggressive”, provided the person has similar attitudes about male politicians with similar political positions, though the use of gendered insults does suggest otherwise.
As to the “if you aren’t a feminist, you are a bigot”, I think this is one of those times to distinguish between feminism as an ideal and feminism as a political movement. If you are against the former, you are a bigot. If you are against the latter, it depends on your motivations and the content of your criticisms. Hating the feminist movement because it disrupts traditional gender roles is bigotry, hating the feminist movement because certain (large) sections of it have historically not stepped up on issues of trans rights, the rights of PoC, etc. or engaged in bigotry against certain sets of women is a good reason rather than a bigoted one.
And? Why do feminists need to worry about winning people over? You either think women are people or you don’t, and if some throwback is antagonized, oh well. That’s on them.
Well, basically the theory of how MPAA ratings are enforced is they say to theaters “If you don’t follow our policy, you won’t be able to show any MPAA rated movies” and thus are able to control the (former) main distribution channel. In practice I haven’t found this to be terribly effective; it’s ridiculously easy for minors to get into R/NC-17 movies. The ESRB/ESA, on the other hand, doesn’t have tightly controlled distribution channel and can’t enforce their ratings in exactly the same way.
The home video market is far more similar to the video game market and I haven’t encountered any DVD/VHS retailers (aside from Walmart which has the same policy about MA games) that have an ironclad policy about selling R rated DVDs to the 17 & under set.
Truth.
This is silly. There aren’t that many pantsuits in the world.
I should also say that I always thought that the “pantsuits” attacks on Hillary were sexist and dumb. What the fuck was she supposed to wear?
That being said, when I joke about her pantsuits, it’s inarguably hilarious.
Spearhafoc: Are you sure you aren’t confusing Hillary Clinton with Tipper Gore, when it comes to video games?
Polliwog: There is a difference between ratings, and making it illegal to sell games to kids, which is what Tipper Gore was trying to do (same with music).
Ratings aren’t legally binding. The MPAA is half a dozen men and women in the San Fernando Valley, and Jack Valente.
I was in my teens when Tipper Gore started that campaign, and in my twenties when it fizzled.
I recall that a lot of the “Hillary is not the president” nonsense took off after she became the chair of the health care reform task force. Not only did she have ambition and opinions, she actually had influence. The horror!

I think that’s ’cause you wearing bunny ears makes it more cutting. 😀

Tipper Gore went after the music industry with the PMRC in the late ’80s, as memory serves. I remember Zappa testifying to Congress in opposition, and he died in the early ’90s.
I remember Clinton talking about video games along with Lieberman after her election to the Senate.
They absolutely lend gravitas, it’s true.
Why the hell are they called “Pantsuits”? ARen’t they all?
