Well, my fellow feminists, we might as well pack it in. For the forces arrayed against us have a devastating, nay brutal, new slogan.
The Counter-Feminist Agent of Change (CFAC) who calls himself Fidelbogen explained in a recent post how this “wicked new slogan” came to him. Also, what the slogan is:
This occurred to me in a flash of inspiration today. I grabbed the first scrap of paper I could find and jotted it down:
Feminism spreads lies like a fly spreads germs.
You like it? I thought you would.
So . . . spread it around, and make it part of the “buzz”!
Get it? Buzz. Like, “buzz” means “what people are excitedly talking about.” But it is also the sound that a fly makes.
See, Fidelbogen is working with TWO DIFFERENT MEANINGS at once. It’s like juggling two things at once, only with your brain. No wonder some MRAs regard his as the finest mind in the Men’s Rights movement today.
Several days after The Bogen (that’s what I like to call him) came up with this masterful slogan, one artistically minded MRA took it to a whole nother level – by using the slogan in the graphic above.
As The Bogen explained in his second post about his new slogan:
Memes can take many forms, and what you see here is among the most elemental and effective of those forms.
I am posting this graphic image for anybody on the planet who wants to fly away with it and spread it around.
First with the “buzz” thing, and now “fly away with it.” LIKE FLIES DO! The man is a genius.
Hell man, you could even print it on T-shirts and coffee mugs. Certainly you can post it on your website. Best of all, you can print it on little squares of paper and leave these in all manner of places where all manner of people will happen upon them.
Oh shit. T-shirts? Mugs? Motherfucking SQUARES OF PAPER?! He’s going CROSS-PLATFORM!
This is the sort of thing that will land in people’s brains, and buzz around there, and never leave!
I explained the buzz thing already, didn’t I?
It will find its way into the general buzz of conversation, too!
Just in case you’ve forgotten. Buzz = what people are talking about. ALSO THE SOUND FLIES MAKE.
I still cannot get over how much of a genius move that whole “buzz” thing is. I don’t know how he does it.
I kindly thank St. Estephe, the blog keeper who created this. I am honored to see my words so skillfully combined with pictures, and made ten times more effective by that method.
It’s true. It takes a tremendous amount of skill to find a picture of a fly, and then to put words next to it.
How can we possibly compete with this?
I tried to come up with some slogans of my own. But the best I could do was this:
I hope you guys have some better ideas.
Try QuickMeme if you want to make a little graphic. I’ll post any especially good ones here!
EDITED TO ADD: Some more graphics that are Fidelbogenesque in their brilliance. One from Scar, one from me.
Nephrite: How about we actually debate then?
Because you don’t debate. You just post random statements and pretend they are facts irrefutable. When arguments are presented to you, you don’t respond, you just repeat the cycle.
Spam filter acting up; I let through a bunch of comments, including some from you, ersatz.
Nephrite:
If you’re concerned about your access to scholarly articles, I’d suggest heading to the public library. In the vast majority of areas, the public computers have access to the same article databases that on campus libraries subscribe to, and furthermore, most resources which are not available can be ordered through inter-library loan.
If you are unable to get to a library, I would suggest that you contact reference services at your local branch. There are trained researches there on staff who will help you locate any information you need. Often you can open a chat session with them through the library’s web site.
If you are concerned that you will not recieve impartial help, let me assure you as a librarian myself: one of the only things short of violating a law that will get a librarian fired is to refuse to help a patron locate materials because of a personal disagreement. A staunch belief in freedom of information is one of the ideals core to the profession, and I would be shocked if anyone you asked for help did anything less than their best to connect you with the resources you want.
O_o wow that’s a lot. Technically, you only have to read one. It basically deconstructs each of the feminist lie posts from the beginning of the thread.
Ersatz, for future reference, there are a number of possible causes for being caught by the moderation filter or the spam filter. Try cutting down on the length, the number of hyperlinks, and if you have any controversial words, try putting some html formatting in the middle of them, e.g. “how dare you utter that filthy expletive, ‘Bel<i></i>gium’!”
I’d like to add that some of Nephrite’s bullshit earlier in the thread was plainly misandrist as well, for perpetuating the toxic masculinist view that feminine-identifying men, or men who for example aren’t interested in sports, should be shamed and reviled for that. The MRM doesn’t only seek to do harm to women; its views also perpetuate harm to men.
SugarBooger/NewbTroll needs to learn to blockquote if I’m going to bother reading him.
Books:
Currently in the process of reading everything John Connolly has ever written. Also from the library: “Passage” and “Remake” by Connie Willis, and a few by Joanne Harris (read a few of the short stories and “The Lollipop Shoes,” a sequel to “Chocolat,” which by the way is really a lot better than the watered-down movie I think). Was on a Peter Straub jag for a while before that, but I think I’ve had enough now.
Ann Coulter is a RL troll. I’m surprised she doesn’t actually say “Lulz” out loud at this point.
Sharculese: j’accuse! fidelbogen sockpuppet! j’accuse!
No fuckin’ way. This one is concise. Wrong, but capable of a one word (and pretty much intelligible, if not intelligent) response.
>:O @ Shadow
Ersatz, also the piece about homelessness, draws the opposite conclusions from the study it links. I read the whole thing when he first posted this on reddit. For one, the study says nothing about how many men and women are unsheltered. He takes THAT number from a slide from a university course of which I can’t find out where that number came from, but it was from a study 10 years ago apparently. He has no problem just plugging the number into another study, done 10 years later with different methodology to get some imaginary number of how many men are unsheltered (as well as adding 10% for under age boys without explaining how he knows this, or why under age girls wouldn’t cancel that out). More than that, the stuff he quotes actually goes AGAINST what he says. For one the study points out that the numbers for sheltered men might be exaggerated (they give a number of reasons for it) and that VAWA prevents counting DV shelters as part of the homeless numbers of the number of homeless women would be even higher. (I know the MRAs would prolly claim that doesn’t count as homeless, cuz they do have a home, they just can’t live there e_e ) Also the study clearly says that it’s very difficult to find out exactly how many people are unsheltered and that the number changes so often.
The blogger also claims that the study says “on any given day” when it says “ON THIS VERY SPECIFIC DAY IN JANUARY”.
-_-
I think Nephrite’s claim by linking to that guy, was that feminists (Ozy) lie about homelessness by saying it’s more gender equal than it is, because of that “unsheltered homeless” claim. (i.e. they can tack on a much bigger number by claiming that 90% of unsheltered homeless are men)
Kidney Stone: Kathy
Do you believe it is unfair of me to know the identity of a feminist who would be providing me research in a debate between myself and a feminist?
Or should I just take feminist lies and liars at their face?
What, you will magically believe someone if they give their real name?
Somehow I don’t think so.
Is it that the studies ithiliana will link to somehow cease to be valid if you don’t know who/where she is?
Maybe you just don’t know how to read them, and so can’t evaluate them: you just use your ideological blinders to decide based on who told you what.
Sort of the way you told people here to go read AVFM, and other MRA sites to know what the MRM is about, but refuse to read feminist ones, because they will lie about their aims. The MRM, of course, is above all that and would never twist a fact (or just refuse to answer a question by asking a non-relevant question in response).
Nope.
Ozyman claims to have read AVfM, yet calls them a hate group. Do they SAY that they’re a hate group? No. Does it matter? No.
You say you won’t read feminist sites because they will lie, but Ozy is supposed to read AVFM and take them at face value. So which is it? Do advocacy sites tell the truth about what they believe (in which case AVFM is a hate group), or do they lie (in which case we shouldn’t read them to know what they think, but ought to read what feminists say)?
Or, is your position completely illogical, and stupid to the point of farce?
Survey says : completely illogical, and stupid to the point of farce. Thank you for playing when you finally decide to leave there will be a lovely parting gift.
Oh, also MRA dude there misread the part about reasons for male homelessness. The report cites reasons why men are homeless (and therefore a bigger part of the shelter system) and why they may be missed in social safety nets that might have caught women (higher substance abuse in men than women for instance). It explains why more men are homeless, not why more men are unsheltered, which is what he claimed (and claimed before on reddit). He read that as “these are reasons why men are rejected from shelters” when in fact it’s “these are the reasons why men are over-represented IN shelters”. Again, he’s trying to claim that the numbers are just the tip of the iceberg, when it’s either dishonesty, or an inability to read. >_>
@Quackers it’s sad too because Nephrite is my favourite of the villains because he turned good and it was tragic 🙁 We really need Molly to show up more. xD
I think my favorite part of this thread, hands down, was when Nephy claimed that women couldn’t skate. Women’s hockey, figure skating, and the all-genders ice-skating rink a 10 minute walk from my house are all LIES!
Ah! Now she appears! D:
I’m a bit late to the party here, but the fact that this…
Now a chick claims to like sports. Rich.
…was immediately followed by this…
Or maybe you just hate having your beliefs questioned.
…is fuckin’ hilarious.
I was at a Super Bowl party earlier. (I don’t really care about football; I was there to see my family.) The person cheering (and booing) the loudest out of everyone was my sister.
I was a bit sad, for her sake and others’, that the Patriots lost.
ersatzmoons: I see that Toysoldiers reading comprehension continues to fail. I didn’t say I didn’t believe Zarat’s report of his being abused (and the links Toysoldier makes don’t do that). I was dealing with other things about which he was either wrong, or has admitted to lying about.
scar: Naw, 97R (Ground surveillance radar) has the shortest (37 seconds, or some such shit).
I was 97ELRUH (Interrogator, Russian speaking, instructor qualified) for 16 years. They’ve changed it to 35M, but I’ll be a 97E to the day I die. I was also a unit armorer, and some other things (whiz-quiz supervisor, etc) which required schools.
@DM: Librarians FTW. Open Access FTW. I mean really, if we give Nefertiti the actual citation, why would it matter who provided the citation?
@ Ami, more Magyc! YAAAAAAAY! (is secretly jealous of your awesome skills)
Ami, thank you. You have a much better analysis and summary of the homelessness critique.
Pecunium, sorry I misrepresent you. I should of read through the old thread that Zarat posted to see if what toysoldier linked was correct.
Ah, while post still gets the gist that what Nephrite is bullshit, my second attempt at troll bashing didn’t go as well as my first. Next time, next time!
I agree that librarians are awesome. I don’t think the profession gets anywhere near the respect it deserves.
Aw man Shadow, that hurts!
The Giants played beautifully though.
“Ah, while my post still gets the gist that what Nephrite posted was bullshit, my second attempt at troll bashing didn’t go as well as my first. Next time, next time!”
^ should read. I can type. I promise. Please don’t take away my license! D:
