Devastating new "fly" slogan gives MRAs the edge in the war of ideas

Well, my fellow feminists, we might as well pack it in. For the forces arrayed against us have a devastating, nay brutal, new slogan.

The Counter-Feminist Agent of Change (CFAC) who calls himself Fidelbogen explained in a recent post how this “wicked new slogan” came to him. Also, what the slogan is:

This occurred to me in a flash of inspiration today. I grabbed the first scrap of paper I could find and jotted it down:

Feminism spreads lies like a fly spreads germs.

You like it? I thought you would.

So . . . spread it around, and make it part of the “buzz”!

Get it? Buzz. Like, “buzz” means “what people are excitedly talking about.” But it is also the sound that a fly makes.

See, Fidelbogen is working with TWO DIFFERENT MEANINGS at once. It’s like juggling two things at once, only with your brain. No wonder some MRAs regard his as the finest mind in the Men’s Rights movement today.

Several days after The Bogen (that’s what I like to call him) came up with this masterful slogan, one artistically minded MRA took it to a whole nother level – by using the slogan in the graphic above.

As The Bogen explained in his second post about his new slogan:

Memes can take many forms, and what you see here is among the most elemental and effective of those forms.

I am posting this graphic image for anybody on the planet who wants to fly away with it and spread it around.

First with the “buzz” thing, and now “fly away with it.” LIKE FLIES DO! The man is a genius.

Hell man, you could even print it on T-shirts and coffee mugs. Certainly you can post it on your website. Best of all, you can print it on little squares of paper and leave these in all manner of places where all manner of people will happen upon them.

Oh shit. T-shirts? Mugs? Motherfucking SQUARES OF PAPER?! He’s going CROSS-PLATFORM!

This is the sort of thing that will land in people’s brains, and buzz around there, and never leave!

I explained the buzz thing already, didn’t I?

It will find its way into the general buzz of conversation, too!

Just in case you’ve forgotten. Buzz = what people are talking about. ALSO THE SOUND FLIES MAKE.

I still cannot get over how much of a genius move that whole “buzz” thing is. I don’t know how he does it.

I kindly thank St. Estephe, the blog keeper who created this. I am honored to see my words so skillfully combined with pictures, and made ten times more effective by that method.

It’s true. It takes a tremendous amount of skill to find a picture of a fly, and then to put words next to it.

How can we possibly compete with this?

I tried to come up with some slogans of my own. But the best I could do was this:

I hope you guys have some better ideas.

Try QuickMeme if you want to make a little graphic. I’ll post any especially good ones here!

EDITED TO ADD: Some more graphics that are Fidelbogenesque in their brilliance. One from Scar, one from me.

I’m still unclear as to Nephrite’s stance on the ‘Catchy’ slogan about germs and lies.

Could you enlighten us, Nephy?

Yes, let’s keep pretending that points weren’t made, and ignore the links. This is how we prove we care about men!

An MRA talks about the suffering of men, feminist try desperately to turn this into a conversation about how they’re totally not faux-geeks.

Nephrite, do you hate women?

Because if you believe all the things you’ve said about women–and yeah, you did say those things, they are memorialized in actual letters that we can all go back and read–then it would be irrational for you not to hate them. And irrational for you to be offended when we call you a woman-hater.

I mean, shit, you can call me a Nazi-hater, you can call me a murderer-hater, you can call me an Ebola-virus-hater. I won’t be offended, because I understand that these are bad things and I am ready to admit that I hate them.

So… do you hate women?

Uh… I talk so much about male rape survivors I occasionally joke I’m NSWATM’s Rape Correspondent.

Also I have done more than Nephrite to help male survivors! Thanks to me, raping a man at my college is an actionable offense to be punished by expulsion, just like the rape of a woman! And all prevention, educational, and awareness activities are required to be gender-inclusive!

Oh men’s health, I love that hobby horse. See, the rest of us don’t complain when other people get health problems done; see AIDS research, which helps a higher proportion of men (Gay women have a much lower incidence of the disease). But the men’s rights groups love to complain that someone besides them benefits.

You know, I’d laugh because this is stupid, but just because you didn’t hear about the genocide at darfur, the murder of child witches, and the general death and destruction in Africa (Which doesn’t just affect men, you sexist git, just as you idiots seem tot hink the fighters are only men.) doesn’t mean the rest of us haven’t.

Based on outright lies; men make up the majority of single homeless, doubtless, but when you start accounting for homeless families

The one about the national debt is even more idiotic and based outright on untruths. Not the least of which for pretending alimony is still a thing, but hey. Though my favorite part about that was “FEWER WOMENA RE BEHIND BARS”. Fewer women commit crime, you dumbasses. Work against patriarchal narratives of violence if you want to help with that.

@laura

I love “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream”! I’ve never played the game, though.

you have to. it’s a scumm-based point-and-click adventure game and im pretty sure its freeware now. its only tangentially related to the story, but ellison does the voice of AM, and if youve never heard him perform its a must. if you use a walkthrough (and you should use a walkthrough, the game is incredibly obtuse) you can go through it in a day

Oh no, I am totally a faux-geek. My talents are better suited to killing innocent men by holding down a job in a male-dominated industry.
I only watch Star Trek because I have a lady boner for Jonathan Frakes.

I did the math on this a while back! If you account for homeless families the ratio is about 60/40 in favor of men. And apparently cis men and trans people are less likely to be sheltered homeless, but I haven’t dug into the stats on that yet, and I don’t know if it accounts for the families factor. If Darksidecat gets on zie might be able to enlighten us.

I personally believe it should be “feminism spreads lies like flies spread shit: it’s just their nature” but I didn’t make it.

I think the image is too boring to catch the eye of the regular person, especially since people are generally wired to care about women and feminism. A more effective image would be flies obscuring a poster about male rape survivors. One single fly is very boring. Like me, apparently.

But I think working on slogans, and working on appealing the mass public rather than preaching to the choir is absolutely important to the Men’s Rights Revolution and I applaud any steps in that vein.

There are actually several “The Dark Knight” children’s books. One takes the party scene from TDK, but changes it so that it’s Bruce’s birthday, not Harvey’s fundraiser. The Joker shows up to rob everybody, knocks them out with sleeping gas, and then decides to kidnap Rachel to hold her for ransom from Bruce Wayne, but Batman shows up and stops him.

Another is the aftermath of the bank robbery scene, in which the Joker apparently spent the rest of the day driving around in the school bus until Batman caught him, leading to a confrontation inside a toy store in which the Joker threw some cards in Batman’s face but was nonetheless apprehended.

The other two are books for kids learning to read that mostly just introduce the characters.

Ok, sorry to derail but this is the most adorable thing ever:

Okay, I have an early morning lab, so I really am going to bed now.

Let me know if Nephrite comes out and says he hates women, or if he continues to toe the usual MRA line of “women are horrible monsters who destroy everything they touch… but how dare you claim I hate them!”

It’s like some small part of them understands that “misogynist” is an insult, but has completely forgotten why.

Okay, it is time for another quiz.

1) How many people on this blog believe envelopment is not rape?
2) How many people in the general public believe envelopment is not rape?

Show your work.

Yeah, Nephrite, why so shy all of a sudden? You haven’t told me what a lazy bitch I was for two and a half years while MrB and I tried to keep the family together! (for the math impaired: two years with Grandma + six months helping while Dad was sick = two and a half years)
