The Case for Chivalry (Note: It's really, really rapey.)

Chivalry: Good for dudes too.

MRAs, by and large, aren’t big fans of chivalry, and complain bitterly about the terrible injustices forced upon them by this archaic concept, like having to hold doors open for ladies from time to time.

But perhaps they are not considering the many fine benefits of chivalry. In the comments section of Alcuin’s pro-patriarchy blog, our traditionalist friend fschmidt recently set forth the case for chivalry in a way that even the dullest misogynist could appreciate:

In early western culture around the time of the Renaissance, chivalry meant that ladies should be honored and sluts should be raped. This is a totally sound concept and encourages good behavior on the part of women. You cannot expect women to behave if they are not rewarded for good behavior and punished for bad behavior.

Fschmidt’s opinion inspired a lively discussion. Caeser’s Ghost argued that fschmidt had gone a bit too far with the whole rape thing:

Women who dress and behave like whores shouldn’t be raped. They should be prostitutes and treated as such.

Fschmidt replied:

Caesar’s Ghost, I have the greatest respect for prostitutes. Prostitutes provide a valuable service. But sluts provide no value and undermine morality. This is why sluts, identified as provocatively dressed women outside of areas of prostitution, were regularly raped around the time of the Renaissance.

CG argued that prostitutes deserve only the most limited sort of respect:

I respect prostitutes in so far as they fulfill a lowly but necessary function in society. Outside of that function, I have no respect or value for them.

Promiscuous women who are not prostitutes should be treated badly, but I don’t believe that they should be raped. I regard the Renaissance as a great era, but I would have to disagree with their way of handling the problem of sluts.

The mission of Alcuin’s site is, as he states at the top of every page, is to “Promot[e] the Intellectual Renaissance of the Western Tradition.” Apparently you can’t have a real renaissance without sorting out whether or not sexually active women should be raped, or just treated like shit.

For those interested in exploring fschmidt’s opinions further, check out his not-terribly-popular CoAlpha Brotherhood discussion forums. Or this post, in which I examine his CoAlpha brother Drealm’s theory about how women oppress men by dressing like sluts and not covering up their evil sexy hair.

This post merits the famous blinking

Also, new theory – DKM actually IS Ron Paul. His posts here are part of his super secret plan to win over leftists to his political platform.

It’s not going very well so far.

I prefer to think of Ron Paul as the best of a bad situation. At least he doesn’t speak political lingo and has actual principles that he holds firmly to.

Still wouldn’t vote for him though…

Cassandra, you know what they call someone who graduated at the bottom of their med school class? Doctor.

Ozy, no. He may say a nugget here and there that makes sense, but his overwhelming bat-shttery is too much. The others in the GOP field are evil, stupid, and mean.

I think I’d rather have a cynical asshole in power than someone who genuinely believes things that are completely insance. True believers can be very dangerous people.

Insane, not insance, whatever that is.

Kirbywarp, I’m not USian, but I hate hearing that Ron Paul’s the best of a bad bunch. Do improved rights to abortion/marriage and to cannabis in some states (very few will change, i imagine) really make up for cutting funding to, like, everything, as is the libertarian way? He’s still a bigot too, and I don’t see anything particular magnanimous about his idea that not everyone else has to be.

There must be another slimebag candidate who will at least keep some semblance of socialism around.

Disclaimer: this was posted from the Communist State of Australia.

Did anyone see RIck Santorum? He said something about how, if his daughter was raped, he wouldn’t want her to have an abortion, since any child is a gift…

These MRA’s spend way too much time thinking about chivalry. Why do they care if other men open doors for women? Nobody is forcing them to do that, so what’s the problem?

I open doors for other people walking behind me in public. If it’s raining outside, I go out to the parking lot to get the car while my husband and kids wait, so they won’t have to get wet. If there aren’t enough seats in a waiting room or bus, I stand up so that pregnant people, children, or elderly people can have a seat first. If the MRA’s don’t want to have good manners, though, they don’t have to. They can just be rude assholes and then brag about it on the Internet.

I’m no huge Dan Savage fan, but I’ll always love him for giving Santorum his google problem.

That was meant to be “all believe”.

Hopefully it works this time.

hellkell: I mean, “I support abortion in cases of honest rape” is a o.O position, but Santorum thinks that rape survivors should just view the babies as gifts from God, so Ron Paul’s position is strictly better. And that TERRIFIES me. His position should be the radical extremes! For fuck’s sake.

I’m curious as to what “honest rape” would be. My bet is on “something that never happens when we’re working from Ron Paul’s definitions”.

I held the door for a man the other day because he was holding a squirming, fussing toddler, and I didn’t want him to drop the kid. As you can see, feminist chivalry has already destroyed society over here in Californiastan.

Yeah, unfortunately you can’t separate the sane bits of Ron Paul from the insane/racist bits, and I fear the bits that sound sane rest on the same insane foundations as the others and can’t really be trusted… Sorry, really didn’t mean to derail this into a discussion of Ron Paul! 🙂

Cassandra, how misandric of you.

Cloudiah: I am convinced that if you hacked the various Republican candidates apart and sewed them together, you could come up with a reasonable, if Frankensteinian, candidate.

cloudiah

“Honest rape” I suspect means (a) stranger rape (not spousal rape, etc.), (b) evidence of resistance, (c) maybe when a child is involved.

Ozy, you misandrist! Hacking up all the menz! I bet you would never have proposed hacking up Michele Bachman, because chivalry & ladies.

ozymandias42

cloudiah: I wouldn’t propose hacking her up because as far as I know she has no reasonable positions.

If you were to assemble a Frankenstein Republican and they won we’d probably end up with Gilead for real. I don’t see anything good about any of them, it’s just crazy and crazier.

All this talk of Frankenstein (plus the fact that I am on muscle relaxants that are making me really loopy) makes me think of Young Frankenstein, which makes me remember this quote: “Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA?” Which is sort of what I think would describe the result once Ozy hacks up and reassembles the remaining GOP candidates.

Holy Christ why is everything a Meriken knows about the middle ages almost always wrong? How did we get to this point?

Glad Ithiliana pointed out the warrior code first, because Jesus Fuck, that was sort of the point.
