antifeminism evil women manginas misandry misogyny MRA oppressed men patriarchy reactionary bullshit the spearhead

Spearheader: Put American women in Burqas “for their obese figures and even more obese whining mouths.”

Religion needs more of this dude.

Reactionary and “traditionalist” Men’s Rightsers tend to share a lot of the anti-Islam prejudices of the American right in general. When they talk about Islam it’s usually in vaguely apocalyptic terms, and usually with a side of anti-feminist conspiratorialism thrown in for good measure: Feminists are destroying Western Civilization and making the Muslim takeover inevitable!

But I’ve run across a few highly upvoted comments on the Spearhead recently which suggest that the generally less than warm feelings about Islam found in the Manospehre may be tinged with a certain amount of envy and even admiration.

Take this Rapses fellow here:

It is high time papa (patriarchy) take some harsh measures to discipline her little naughty girls (feminists). Papa has yielded too much to their tantrum and whining. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Western papa has to toughen up a bit and tell them that their stupid whims would not be met. These little girls are really not that tough as they show and still need papa to provide and protect them. See how Saudi papa deals with his girls and still his girls are not complaining.

And then there’s Aharon :

I think there are many American women that American men would prefer to burqad up for their obese figures and even more obese whining mouths. Perhaps we can customize the burqad in America to include a dog muzzle. …

Feminism along with its allies has been very effective the past 45+ years in decimating the nuclear family along with traditional American values and ethics, and loyalty to church and synagogue. Most religious institutions are failing men in America. …  Men leave liberal places of worship because they can’t relate to the female-value emphasis. …

American men have been living – for generations – in a post Judeo-Christian modern American misandrist society that for the most part sold men out. Islam comes along and teaches Sharia Law will not discriminate against men, and that men are respected in Islam, etc. Bingo. … I can see American men in the future becoming increasingly interested in Islam.

He adds this bit of speculation at the end:

I can also see new pro Men’s religions being created and taking hold. I see them mostly as manly without the provider/protector/chivalry crap, and not mangina metro-sexual in their beliefs and values.

30 upvotes, 1 downvote.

Apparently any religion is okey dokey with this crowd – even one made up on the spot – so long as it’s butch enough.

my tuppence worth on the maternity clothes, anything that is comfy is great,$200 is a lot for something you’ll wear approximately 4 months and possibly never again. there are many, many cool maternity clothes out there (H&M, you were a saviour) for reasonable prices. As for the baby kicking…it’s pretty exciting and slighty uncomfortable (as you will know Kristin) especially when it stretches out from under your ribs down and then decides to roll. But it’s fun too…It’s a bit like a secret communication between you and the baby, i thought. Best of luck for the birth Kristin, is it your first?

You could give the kiddy up for adoption. If I was in that position I would want to have kids just for the experience.

I don’t have womb envy, males have their own advantages, peeing in arcs for example. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say females can do cool things too.

MRAL is really not grasping the whole “how not to make women think you’re awful” thing, is he?

Birth is pretty traumatic, or so I hear. In the absolute worst case, you could get sepsis and lose your sight and all your limbs.

and you’re going to tell all womb-havers GO HAS A BABEY cuz I WOULD DO EET? Eww. Sorry, just eww.

@MRAL,

Episodic memory (i.e., memory for specific events) generally doesn’t develop in children until later. Nevertheless, sounds that mimic a mother’s heartbeat are thought to be soothing to babies, so there must be some capacity to retain that association from inside the womb.

When my niece was a newborn (I’m talking two weeks old) she used to do this thing we called “baby aerobics” where she’d just lie there on her back and move her arms and legs back and forth in the air for several minutes at a time. It was so weird and adorable. I’m curious about how pregnancy feels and love kids and always wanted to have some, but I have several genetic diseases I don’t want to pass along, and might kill me if I ever got pregnant, so even if I ever do have kids, they won’t be coming from this uterus of mine. It’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

There are people who claim that they remember being born. It seems unlikely, but who knows? If true I doubt it’s something that you’d want to remember – it would probably be rather frightening if you were conscious and without the ability to understand what was happening.

I notice on the Shit Reddit Says page, on the right it says “No posts from r/mensrights until February 1st, 2012”

Does anyone know what that’s about?

FFS, MRAL. Because pregnancy, childbirth, and giving a baby up is just another day at the office.

Yep, Big Momma, this is #1. Thanks for the good wishes!

Yeah, pregnancy shouldn’t be undertaken for shits and giggles. My wife had horrible morning sickness both times, difficult deliveries, and bad post-partum depression. There were parts about it that were fun for her, but you couldn’t pay her enough to do it again.

MRAL, pregnancy is seriously uncool at times…exhaustion, heartburn, nausea, incontinence, possibly fatal complications followed by birth which is pretty much an indescribable experience. then there is continued incontinence, piles, tearing, constant exhaustion, PND,…most of my friends have kids and i have a whole raft of uncool stories about pregnancy and labour amongst all the stories of uplifitng love that you often see published in dodgy magazines. you managed to make it sound as if the child is some sort of experiment in which you get to choose the ‘cool’ bits and ignore all the uncomfortable and life threatening possibilities (before we even get into mother-shaming) that a pregnant woman simply has no choice but to experience and deal with as best she can.

That sepsis link is pretty scary. But yes, anyone who can should have a baby because some random dude thinks it’s super cool. It’s not dangerous or painful at all! Fulfill your destiny, ladies!

I’m going to be so happy when menopause finally makes the whole “why don’t you have babies?” question a moot point. Maybe my stepmother will finally shut up about it.

Crumbelievable – The r/MR guys were treating SRS like their biggest ever archenemy, so SRS called a moratorium on posting about them so r/MR would look like fools by shrieking “SRS IS PERSECUTING US!” when SRS isn’t even mentioning them.

“Meh, I still think it’s cool.”

Because I am a selfish person who doesn’t care about anyone else’s feelings/health/safety!

(Finished that for him.)

Yeah all right, I’ve heard women say that peeing in an arc is cool and they wish they could do it. Are they selfish fucks too? OH WAIT, that’s only me.

CassandraSays

Isn’t SRS kind of inevitably going to focus a lot on sexism, since there’s so much sexism on Reddit? It seems less like they’re going out of their way to pick on r/MR and more like r/MR is just so full of batshit comments, and so loud, that it’s impossible not to notice.

Peeing in an arc isn’t potentially fatal, nor do women typically go “why don’t you go pee in an arc, random dude? I would if it was me!”.

SRS is basically a Manboobz subsidiary at this point.

I am laughing at the idea of one’s chosen method of peeing being a serious, potentially life altering decision like having a baby, though.

BigMomma

MRAL, do you think that peeing in a arc is the direct equivalent of pregnancy/child birth or are you just being deliberately provocative? i see where you are coming from with thinking it’s cool to feel a baby kick (cos it is) but it wasn’t cool to suggest that you should have one for the experience of simply that and then adopt it out. that was plain silly. and that’s why folk have jumped on you.
