Nope! As the totally scientific chart above shows, it also contains: generalized misogyny, racism, atheist dickbaggery, and last but not least: lots of pics hosted on imgur!
Here, some recent data, most of which I have borrowed from ShitRedditSays. I’ve put the number of upvotes for each post in brackets, when relevant.
Rape jokes:
Guys, you’re not making enough rape jokes! [+856]
“I’d fuck her until the neighbours complained about the smell.” [+250] [Bonus points: Also a murder and necrophilia joke!]
Rape clock [+36]
Redditors mock a rape victim! [Assorted upvoted posts]
Pedophilia apologia:
Admitted pedo and child porn fancier compares himself with Gandhi [+83]
More goodness (by which I mean badness) from that thread, courtesy of SRS.
Oh noes! Evil anti-pedos threaten free pedo speech! [+25]
He’s been shamed into deleting it by you. Are you happy now? For the record, mattperrin said “Why does she have to be 18? So she can be in porn? Very very few girls enter porn, and if you’re just talking about being sexually aroused by her, that’s okay for anyone 13+”.
Pedo joke … perfection! [+100]
General Misogyny (and creepiness):
Ha Ha! Girls can’t work cameras! [+636]
Girls only like thugs and they’re all dumb and why oh why won’t they go out with a nice guy like me? Did I mention I hate women? [+assorted massive upvotes]
Help me prove to this guy feminism is no longer needed. (Please do not use profanity and words like “cunt” though.) [This whole discussion is sort of delicious; our pal ThingsAreBad, aka JeremiahMRA, pops in to argue that feminism was never needed because everything was peachy back when women couldn’t vote.]
I’d fuck her right into a broken hip. [+588] [Referencing Helen Mirren.]
Racism:
“I just had sex with my first black guy, and believe me it’s true what they say…he stole my t.v.” [+477]
“No no no, that will just attract more rapists.” [+70] [BONUS POINT: Is also a rape joke!]
Atheist douchebags:
Reddit Makes Me Hate Atheists, by Rebecca Watson. As you’ll notice, her examples from r/atheism contain many massively upvoted rape and pedophilia jokes, not to mention lots more generalized misogynistic douchebaggery. The circle is complete!
But generally speaking you can pick almost any random highly upvoted post here for endless more examples of what makes even atheist activists hate Reddit atheists.
Which have helped to inspire this meme.
Pics on Imgur:
Top posts on (my) Reddit at the moment:
Then again, random pics of cute dogs and squirrel-riding frogs are certainly preferable to more angry racist rapey hatey pedo-justifying crap. So, yay imgur, I guess? (At least when it’s not being used to post still more angry racist rapey hatey pedo-justifying crap.)
@Cassandra: Or it means “hey why don’t you come back to my room for coffee”. Again, coffee doesn’t equal “Yo…let me fuck you”.
@Nobinayamu: It matters when you are drawing faulty conclusions. Stating that it was a fact that he was “picking her up” is not correct or incorrect because there is no data to prove either side. Most of the whole “elevator-gate” crap hinges on the very idea that he was trying to pick her up. If it was 100% certain that he just wanted to get a cup of coffee, would we be having this debate? No! Because one side is making a assumption that he was picking her up. Maybe the guy wasn’t but Rebecca thought he was so it was wishful thinking on her part.
Who the fuck knows what really happened. The point is the position that feminists have taken is faulty, illogical and mostly based on nothing but wild speculation. (i.e pure bullshit)
Watson was acting like a child. She made a massive deal out of a non-issue. Something that most mature adults view as a minor inconvenience, but she felt the need to mention a awkward conversation in a video then proceed to tell men to “not do what that guy did”. She is acting like an entitled princess.
I did watch the video. And her saying “Just a word to the wise, Guys don’t do that” seems like she has the right to tell men (or at the very least atheist men) how to behave. Like all the “guys” should just say “oh…ok Rebecca no problem”. When in fact the backlash was more like “Who the fuck is this chick telling me what to do”.
There is a difference between a hypothetical situation and speculating on actual events.
Brandon can’t grasp that all women are not his imaginary girlfriend, and that not all women will giggle and ask you to spank them regardless of what you say.
@Lady Zombie
I saw his video ranting about feminism and how teh ebil feminazis are all out to take away his porn. I just rolled my eyes and though don’t worry dumbass no one is taking your precious porn away. We have better things to do.
Anti-feminists are fucking idiots I swear. They don’t even know that there are both anti-porn and pro-sex feminists? And as an atheist, I thought with all his holy rationality and skepticism he’d actually bother to do some actual research before running his mouths
Maybe Brandon and the Amazing Atheist can go form a commune of douchebaggery on an island in the middle of the ocean. Or in Antarctica. Or on Mars.
Maybe they’re the same person. Has anyone ever seen them in a hotel room together, innocently having coffee at 4 am?
They both seem to live in a world where context isn’t real, that’s for sure.
@Quackers
Between his videos on how awesome he is, how much money his viewers should send him, his views on vegetarianism (i.e. eat all the animals lol), feminism (make me a sammich, bitch), and so on, I’m surprise he has enough time and energy to devote to pushing record on his camera.
I loathe that idiot with the power of a thousand suns. Fortunately, a lot of people don’t take him seriously.
So, there’s this guy named Brandon. He’s trying to impress feminists with his cynicism and world weary, jaded attitude.
He makes sweeping statements, denies any existing context, believes all the world lives in a vacuum much like what exists in his head and when presented with perverts on Reddit making passes and rape jokes at a 15 year old gets his panties in a twist because Rebecca Watson said this is a shitty thing that atheists should accept to create a healthy community.
Guys, don’t do this.
He’s a tool.
Wait, does Brandon like Transformers 2? Because if that’s the case, their commune won’t last long.
Brandon, where in this discussion have I said that the guy in the elevator was trying to pick up Rebecca Watson? Where in this discussion have I said that whether or not the guy was trying to pick up Watson, mattered? Show me where.
No, Brandon. Elevator-gate started because of feminist criticism of that, really very small portion, of Watson’s video and recap of the convention in Dublin. Feminist criticism of a feminist Watson disagreed and addressed the other writer, the other writer offered a rebuttal. And then Richard Dawkins found out about it and decided -much like you are right now- to ignore the larger point and context of Watson’s original statements and the interesting arguments against her position by bringing up female genital mutilation and being, generally dismissive. This caused a great big internet kerfluffle.
And then a whole bunch of blockheads, like yourself, heard that Watson commanded men not to talk to women in elevators and here we are.
Hey now, let’s not call him a blockhead. Charlie Brown deserves better than to be lumped into the same category as Brandon.
@Laura: Correction…the church commits child molestation. So, they are basically one in the same. If they only let the priests get laid once in a while…they might not diddle little boys. Repression makes people do fucked up shit.
@Quakers: Really? Because if I found Rebecca Watson “interesting”, I would just want to talk to her. I don’t find her attractive at all so there would be no sexual undertones from me saying “Hey…want to get some coffee” (any place or time I might add). And if I feel that way about Rebecca, I bet other men might see it that way too. Yet again, the default of male-female conversations isn’t “I want to fuck you”.
@Lady Zombie: Ya…I get a kick out of how much he hates feminists and feminism. My kind of guy. Maybe hate is too strong a word. Views them as stupid and unenlightened. Ah…that is better.
@Nobinayamu: While I am not an atheist, I am a strong agnostic. So I do pay attention to the atheist community. I am well aware of important members of the community but yet I have never heard about her until “elevator-gate”, Maybe it is the cynic in me, but she probably did this to make a name for herself. Like they always say “any publicity is good publicity”.
Who said it was about me? I am talking about Rebecca, not me.
THERE IS NO CONTEXT!!!
THERE IS NO CONTEXT!!!!
Hmmm… who else do we know who does that?
Who takes a non issue and creates a diabolical plan to videotape without their consent, someone “giving their consent” to sex with triple 64bit open source encryption then encasing it in enamel in his freezer until the statue of limitations for rape expires?
I watches Skeptic Chick’s video… amongst the usual comments calling her a bitch and cunt, I did find 2 good ones:
Yea. That sums it up pretty nicely.
Oh. But look at these comments from her youtube profile:
…………………………………….
NOPE. NO MISOGYNY EXISTS IN OUR CULTURE AT ALL!!!
No. She spoke about this whole thing for less than a minute. The vast majority of her video was not about this guy and what she did say was anecdotal and directly relevant to the subject on which she’d been invited to speak about at the conference she attended. There was nothing childish, gossipy, or entitled about what she said. She was directly addressing an issue that the community itself believes is a problem.
And every single thing you write further proves that you never watched the video. You heard about it; like a fucked up version of the game “telephone”. Quick: what does Watson talk about directly before she mentions the guy in the elevator? What does she talk about directly after?
Correction: Your hero said “a dick is the least harmful thing a priest could put in your child.” Hence, child molestation is not as bad as religious upbringing. This coming from a man who talks about his sexual fantasies regarding children. What an upstanding, trustworthy person.
Also, I wasn’t aware sexual frustration was the cause of child sexual abuse. So every “nice guy” beta out there complaining that he can’t get laid is molesting kids?
Brandon’s kind of guy is a pedo who thinks people who disagree with him about the quality of a Michael Bay film belong in concentration camps. Makes sense.
The Amazing Atheist is the worst.
Actually, most of it hinges on the idea that a guy waiting until he’s alone in an elevator at 4 a.m. to speak for the first time to a woman who’s alone in a new country — who has, incidentally, been speaking all day about how she doesn’t like for guys to talk to her like that — and who invites that woman at that time and in that place to his hotel room might make that woman uncomfortable.
It’s weird, because you (kind of) accurately describe what she actually did — mentioned an awkward conversation in a video — but then characterize that “mention” as “acting like an entitled princess” and making “a massive deal out of a non-issue.” Then again, you are the person who said that he’d deprive his child of school supplies if you weren’t asked for them the right way, so why am I surprised.
Well, in fact the backlash was more like, “Why are you complaining, when you still have your clitoris intact?” and “You fuck bitch I’ll rapemurder you,” and “Guys, don’t do that” kinda seems about as arrogant and bossy as when the weatherman tells you you better bring an umbrella in the morning, but whatevs. I know my audience on this one, Brandon, and I assume you go into a fit of rage when the weatherman tells you what to do too, that pushy bitch.
Oh, like Brandon listens to weathermen. He totally knows more about meteorology than they do.
When you write shit this stupid, does it actually make sense to you? I mean when you write “I am a strong agnostic…” does it seem like a relevant point? What does it mean to be a “strong agnostic,” Brandon?
Dick-head momentum.
So, you’d never heard of Watson before elevator-gate and that means she what? Isn’t an important enough thinker and writer within the atheist community to be invited to speak at the convention? Because, you know, she was an invited guest speaker. So whether or not you knew who she was means less than nothing.
And, just because Brandon is so fucking stupid:
but earlier:
Strong agnostic means Brandon is on the fence about everything, I guess, which would explain why he never bothers to educate himself about anything but not why he assumes he knows absolutely everything about any subject ever.
@Cynickal: And that context is subjective and open for debate. I bet he was trying to ask Rebecca out…but you can’t actually prove it. Him inviting her up for coffee could mean a wide spectrum of things. He could just want to fuck her, date her, just talk, etc… The point is you can’t prove what his intentions were…hence it is bad form for Rebecca to say “guys, don’t do that!”
Don’t do what? Ask a woman up for coffee or use coffee as a reason to get her into the room to seduce her or….
Should I not use his exact words in a elevator at 4am or should I not hit on women in elevators or should I refrain from asking atheist women out for coffee?
The point is “that” in “don’t do that” means what?
Well, as long as it’s a weatherMAN I assume that it’s OK. In that case he’s just giving helpful manly advice.
If it’s a woman then this is part of the “are you a feminist” test. Does she say “it’s going to be cold today, you might want to wrap up!”? Feminist bitch. Does she say “it’s really cold out there, guys, so (giggles) do you want to spank me to warm us both up?”. Proper woman. But possibly a slut, so you better ask her if she asks all the guys that.
Figures. He is a typical, entitled, white guy douchebag who refuses to consider any other viewpoint outside of his privileged own.
Although I’ve only recently started commenting, I’ve read this blog for almost a year now. I see others’ perception of you is spot-fucking-on.
I really don’t understand why David puts up with your smarmy shit. I would have banhammered you long ago.
What must it be like to be so willfully obtuse? Does it feel like everything’s in a fog?
