Nope! As the totally scientific chart above shows, it also contains: generalized misogyny, racism, atheist dickbaggery, and last but not least: lots of pics hosted on imgur!
Here, some recent data, most of which I have borrowed from ShitRedditSays. I’ve put the number of upvotes for each post in brackets, when relevant.
Rape jokes:
Guys, you’re not making enough rape jokes! [+856]
“I’d fuck her until the neighbours complained about the smell.” [+250] [Bonus points: Also a murder and necrophilia joke!]
Rape clock [+36]
Redditors mock a rape victim! [Assorted upvoted posts]
Pedophilia apologia:
Admitted pedo and child porn fancier compares himself with Gandhi [+83]
More goodness (by which I mean badness) from that thread, courtesy of SRS.
Oh noes! Evil anti-pedos threaten free pedo speech! [+25]
He’s been shamed into deleting it by you. Are you happy now? For the record, mattperrin said “Why does she have to be 18? So she can be in porn? Very very few girls enter porn, and if you’re just talking about being sexually aroused by her, that’s okay for anyone 13+”.
Pedo joke … perfection! [+100]
General Misogyny (and creepiness):
Ha Ha! Girls can’t work cameras! [+636]
Girls only like thugs and they’re all dumb and why oh why won’t they go out with a nice guy like me? Did I mention I hate women? [+assorted massive upvotes]
Help me prove to this guy feminism is no longer needed. (Please do not use profanity and words like “cunt” though.) [This whole discussion is sort of delicious; our pal ThingsAreBad, aka JeremiahMRA, pops in to argue that feminism was never needed because everything was peachy back when women couldn’t vote.]
I’d fuck her right into a broken hip. [+588] [Referencing Helen Mirren.]
Racism:
“I just had sex with my first black guy, and believe me it’s true what they say…he stole my t.v.” [+477]
“No no no, that will just attract more rapists.” [+70] [BONUS POINT: Is also a rape joke!]
Atheist douchebags:
Reddit Makes Me Hate Atheists, by Rebecca Watson. As you’ll notice, her examples from r/atheism contain many massively upvoted rape and pedophilia jokes, not to mention lots more generalized misogynistic douchebaggery. The circle is complete!
But generally speaking you can pick almost any random highly upvoted post here for endless more examples of what makes even atheist activists hate Reddit atheists.
Which have helped to inspire this meme.
Pics on Imgur:
Top posts on (my) Reddit at the moment:
Then again, random pics of cute dogs and squirrel-riding frogs are certainly preferable to more angry racist rapey hatey pedo-justifying crap. So, yay imgur, I guess? (At least when it’s not being used to post still more angry racist rapey hatey pedo-justifying crap.)
@Myoo: *hands you internet for today*
Amazing how Brandon’s hypocrisy works: no woman should ever tell HIM what to do, but damn if he doesn’t spend a lot of the time here telling women AND men what to do.
Besides being a constant rape apologist.
@OSHII: That is strange, because everyone else has no trouble understanding what I am saying. In fact, it seems that only feminists are the ones that misread everything I say. So maybe it is you and your ilk that are the morons. But nice personal attack there. It was pretty weak though, you should come up with some new shit…because you are getting stale.
@Cassandra: Oh, don’t be jealous.
@Kyrie: Probably, He probably did want to fuck Rebecca. But we can’t say for certain, so why are you assuming the worst of him? Feminists seem to lack the capacity for giving a man the benefit of the doubt.
OMG…she was uncomfortable. What a travesty! Making women uncomfortable should be against the law…give this man the death penalty!
Maybe Rebecca should grow some thicker skin and not get offended at minor inconveniences.
“respectable” changes it’s meaning depending on the situation and context it is being used in. Also, I can disagree with someone but still respect someone.
@Myoo: You are assuming he was without a doubt propositioning her. Likely, yes but not provable.
The guy asked a question. All Rebecca had to do was say “No.” and get on with her life. But she see saw fit to comment on her youtube video about this mild inconvenience.
It is not a crime, immoral or even wrong to ask a question. So saying this guy committed some terrible act is ridiculous at best.
@ithiliana: I am not telling Rebecca that she couldn’t make the video or even talk about it. I am however mocking her because what she said was so over the top, hysterical and flat out ridiculous. Women aren’t immune from criticism.
She thinks she is important enough to tell men “don’t do that!”. Like she is some authority on male behavior. That is what I think a lot of people found so offensive. As if we had to follow her advice, otherwise we are doing something wrong. We aren’t and he didn’t.
I’m sure there’s some sort of Soviet Russia joke to be made here or something, but I’m too busy pointing and laughing.
“Guys, don’t do that” is not over the top, hysterical, and flat out ridiculous.
THIS is over the top, hysterical, and flat out ridiculous:
Brandon further proves that he still has not watched Watson’s video.
Lastly, the whole thing seems like the quintessential example of “shaming the beta”. I bet if some famous actor that Rebecca loved was asking the same question as the guy was (and in the same way), she would probably make a video like “OMG, my favorite actor asked me to his room *hehehe sexy time* for “coffee” while I was on my way to bed”.
My bet is that it wasn’t the elevator, the question or even the speech she made. It was the fact that Rebecca didn’t find the guy attractive and got creeped out by it. But if we replaced the guy with Johnny Depp, I bet she would be making videos about all the happy feelings she felt when Johnny propositioned her in an elevator.
Reminds me of the SNL video about sexual harrassment:
1) Be Handsome
2) Be Attractive
3) Don’t Be Unattractive
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/sexual-harassment/258532/
In the end, men shouldn’t feel bad or shamed because of the fickle, constantly changing demands women place on men.
@Lauralot: When did you get to decide what the standard for over the top behavior is?
@Nobinayamu: Watched it,,,but you keep lying. It suits you.
@Brandon: When did you?
@Laura: Nice dodge. I never said mine was the standard. But you seem to think that my thoughts are somehow wrong and that it isn’t over the top. So why should I accept your version of “over the top”?
Because I’m not a self-obsessed rape apologist douchebag, maybe?
Here’s what Watson said (since you haven’t watched the video I’ll be nice and quote it here for you):
Now maybe you’d like to go to the thread intended to discuss the elevator incident here (http://manboobz.com/2011/07/06/two-atheists-get-in-an-elevator/) and tell us exactly what part of that statement was over the top.
And since you hate having women tell you what to do so much: Keep posting here! Don’t post in the thread about the elevator! Post on Manboobz! Don’t kill yourself by drinking ammonia!
And most of all:
Guys, don’t do that.
NOW he’s a fan of context, but he still has to weasel and will not define respectable. This is but one of many reasons people have a problem with him.
Guys, don’t do that.
I notice you never actually answered my question, Brandon. Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that we assume that the intentions of the guy that approached Watson were as pure as the driven snow, and that her request in the video was arrogant.
Even if that is the case, how is you telling women they should just be okay with men hitting on them anywhere at any hour NOT arrogant, exactly?
And now let us direct our attention to posting videos of things much more interesting than Brandon:
Guys, don’t do that.
Myoo, because it’s Brandon saying it, that’s why.
Guys, don’t do that.
Your track record of being a deceitful dipshit in these discussions is well documented. I mean, in this very thread you repeatedly asserted that I stated that the elevator guy was definitely trying to hit on Watson (I never said that) and that I’d argued that any time a man speaks to a woman he’s trying to fuck her. Which, again, I didn’t say and have never said. Hell, you admitted that you completely made up the whole “man hater” thing about Lauralot just to bother her.
When a lying moron accuses me of lying I don’t really take offense.
You haven’t watched the video in its entirety. It’s possible, conceivable even, that you may have seen a clip of the material in question or read a transcript of it. Doubtful, given your absolutely ludicrous description of Watson’s 45 seconds to, maybe, one minute of addressing the guy in the elevator as “…over the top, hysterical…”. But possible.
If you’d watched it –even the short part about the elevator incident- in its entirety why would you have written this:
Watson explained, in detail and in context, exactly what she meant. So, why the confusion?
Guys, don’t do that.
Oh, ninjaed.
And what the fuck is up with all this baseless, “beta”, bullshit speculation? Weren’t you lecturing us about making “educated guesses” and “not having all the facts” a page or two ago? Now you’re spinning this ridiculous hypothetical about how the guy in the elevator probably just wasn’t handsome enough for Watson to want to fuck him. What the fuck does that have to do with anything? Who cares about SNL (which, incidentally is more television that you don’t watch) bits?
You know, Brandon, it’s pretty obvious to anyone who cares to look that the only person being hysterical over this whole thing is you. You might need to take a break from this thread. Do you maybe want to lie down and breathe into a paper bag?
Guys, don’t do that.
@Hellkell
Oh yes, that goes without saying, but I’d like him to actually come out and say it. He just dances around the subject, dodging left and right, like some sort of weasel ballerina, but without the entertainment value that might provide. He’s just so utterly bland.
Guys, don’t do that.
i’m not going back and reading the whole thread, did it turn out in the end that brandon’s issues were just another manifestation of a spoiled child throwing a fit because he thought someone was telling him what to do?
I wonder how Brandon feels about not being on the Troll of the Year poll. After all, he’s so insistent that he’s here to mess with us, and now we have documented evidence that he’s failed at that.
Guys, don’t do that.
Looks that way. But the dough rising is pretty cool.
Guys, don’t do that.
