evil women I'm totally being sarcastic idiocy oppressed men reddit sex

New form of anti-male oppression discovered: Women’s magazines in checkout lines!

Yeah, I know you've all seen this one before, but, come on! It's funny!

Over on Reddit’s Men’s Rights subreddit, cheester warns all of us dudes about an especially insidious form of anti-male oppression: the racks of women’s magazines that lurk near the checkout counters of grocery stores everywhere!

can I get some feedback on womens magazines at the grocery checkout? Every issue states “new tricks he doesn’t know in bed” and shite like that. It’s obvious porn for the gals but why is it so accepted by everyone that it has carte blanche to be within a two foot reach as I pay for my food? If a magazine for men had on the cover: “20 Ways To Make Her Squirm Like A Fish”….there would be a national outrage.

Yeah, it’s not like Men’s magazines ever run anything like that.

Church groups and womens rights would say it demoralizes women and have the publication banned or put behind censored racks in seedy smoke shops.

Yeah. It’s not like this ever happens to women’s magazines.

But the womens mags are right there as a last shop item in the flourescent lit, sterilized, family atmosphere where every mother parades her toddlers and kids right past the 3 letter word in big black block letters;SEX on the cover of every flashy colored womens mag that comes out each month.

Not only is this oppression of men, it’s oppression of all toddlers who can read and know what the word “sex” means.

Also, feminists have never criticized women’s magazines in any way. “Ten Ways to Make Him Squirm” articles are the distilled essence of feminism! And most of them are written by the ghost of Andrea Dworkin.

NOTE:  Does this even need a “sarcasm” tag?

@Bee: Well, okay, I live in DC, so it might be a regional thing. We have bars, gay bars, hipster bars, and wine bars.

Maybe there’s a gay tavern somewhere? 😀

Oh my gosh you guys are awesome, thank you all.

Pecunium:

Viscaria: Real Grog (1 part dark rum [I commend Pusser’s Blue Label] 1 part lime juice, 4 parts water), is tasty.

Huh. I managed to pick up somewhere the notion that “grog” described the drippings from what was left of barrels of liquor as well as the mugs of patrons, that was all thrown together and could be purchased for cheap. It tasted like a slow death, but would get you drunk. Either that’s something totally different or a total fabrication. What you’ve described sounds delicious!

Hershele:

I want to roast beans, but I don’t know a good fair-trade source for green coffee

I’m not entirely sure where my boyfriend gets his beans, but I think he told me he gets fair trade when possible, but that it’s not always an option. Are you on the forums? If you are, I can ask him about where he gets his stuff tomorrow and PM you the info :).

Viscaria: Grog was how the Royal Navy distributed the rum ration, and ensured the sailors drank their juice. It was more often made with lemon juice, as lime juice didn’t travel well.

Pusser’s is as close as anyone can get to the “tot”, since it was discontinued in august of 1972. By then it was mostly formal; being about 1 oz of rum (at 96 proof, US). Back in the day it was 4 oz per man, per day.

It’s where we get the word,”groggy”.

The drink you are describing sounds like a “buffalo rug” where I come from. The liquid trapped in the tray below where the drinks are made. Can’t pay me to try it.

Hershele: Nespresso has been making them for a good 25 years, since they are owned by Nestle I don’t think they are likely to go under. I think Porto Rico (in Soho, on Bleeker) has fair trade green beans.

I need to find a supply in NY, because I miss roasting my own coffee.

The abusive behavior sometimes begins after the couple lives together for some years, or even gets married and has child (ren) together.

Without the obligatory reiteration that spousal abuse is NEVER right, is it at least possible that changes in the spouses attitude and behavior took place during the relationship, or marriage?

Purely for speculative purposes, and agreeing with youall that “Spousal abuse is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!—(see, extra ! s for emphasis) could such changes in one –or even both partner’s attitudes, temperments, or behavior RESULT IN such abusive and destructive behavior?

Putting the same question in another way, for those who still misunderstand, could the violence be brought about (acknowledging again that it is REPREHENSIBLE!!) by e.g. disrespectful attitudes by the victim toward the abuser?

You’ve already had this question answered, time and time again. Rewording it because you don’t like the answer doesn’t change anything. PAY ATTENTION AND LEARN. Turn the godsdamned filter off already.

Only if you think that beating someone up is a normal and reasonable response to thinking that maybe they don’t respect you.

I mean, we know that you do, but thanks for restating it one more time.

Isn’t the difference between a tavern, a pub, and a bar about the food? Taverns have, like, a full menu, pubs have a few things, and bars have maybe wings tops….

Mellertoad, none of us are going to agree that the victims of abuse deserve to be abused.

We’re just not.

Seriously Meller, that fact that you won’t accept any response but “DV is ‘terrible’, but it’s kind of okay sometimes because it’s secretly women’s fault anyway.” as true speaks volumes more about your motivations than any amount of your self-righteous blather could possibly drown out.

I don’t know why somebody graffitied the message “and she’s not even pretty” on the picture of the pretty kitty in the meinekatz post. I think that pussycat is quite lovely!

Can’t please everybody, i guess!

Honestly this conversation is making me really curious about Meller’s past, and whether or not he has any criminal convictions. He seems awfully fixated on getting people to agree that abuse is justified if the woman doesn’t respect her man and kiss his ass enough.

Cassandra: The Annie Wilkes hypothesis is seeming more and more apt. He’ll just drop some offhand reference about what he said on the witness stand and we’ll find out he’s been murdering babies.

Nobinayahoo-

I already said, in many different ways, that abused don’t deserve to be abused. You’ve won! You made your point! I simply mentioned that what happens IF there were changes in behavior during the relationship that made such abuse more likely, that is all.

You–and the other manboobzettes–can say yes, for the record, and still lose nothing regarding points against spousal abuse. You can acknowledge, just for the record, that I may be correct that changes in a partner’s behavior in a marriage or relationship MAY result in the abuse resulting–with all of the condemnation of the abuser’s actions warranted and due! Nobina yahoo (sorry, spelling was never my strong point), you and your sisterhood from hell are no worse off!

The thing is, you’re not correct. You’re just an elderly bigot who feels it necessary that women be considered to be at least partly to blame for anything that a man does to them.

DKM, if I point a gun at your head and say “your money or your life,” and you give me money so I don’t shoot you, does that mean I’m not a criminal?

Do you think we should stay friends after that incident? Would you feel safe?

Do you think the threat was your fault for not giving me your money as a gift in the first place?

The fact that I didn’t hurt you when I got what I wanted doesn’t mean that the situation was a-okay and all the problems are solved.

Shorter D.K. Meller: “Come on, can’t you just admit it’s your fault? Why can’t you just say I’m right? Why do you make me do this to you?”

This is not the attitude of a man who’s opposed to domestic abuse.

Katz–December 5,2011 @11:23pm

Sorry, Katz–

I leave the baby killiing (see “abortion”) to you and your kind of people on manboobz.com and other feminists! And in your cases, it is legal too!

He seems to prefer the idea of murdering adult women, actually. Only if they’re disrespectful of course, and there’s always the alternative of putting them in brothels instead.

Wouldn’t surprise me. Also his obsession with dolls and fluffy, completely subservient women strikes me as something that would come out of an episode of Law and Order: SVU or a horror movie.

It’s a new edition of the Saw franchise called The Doll Collector. Some lost girl finds her way to his house and at first he seems weird but not completely horrible, and then she finds all the bodies in the basement.

‘Round these parts, a pub will have a full menu, but it will be “pub food”: fish and chips, nachos, chicken fingers. A few salads. An Irish pub will have shepherd’s pie or maybe a pot pie, probably with Guiness in it. Bars seem to be the same for your region as mine. Language is super fascinating!

I’m just going to ignore Meller because… bwuh. I’d rather talk about drinking establishments and ride the warm fuzzies from all of the present ideas you fine folks shared with me.

Just remember, it’s not a proper British pub unless it serves a ploughman’s lunch, and children are allowed in the lounge area.

Anyone who offers to help me get past a relationship that made me a submissive little mouse with zero self-esteem by linking me to sites that will teach me how to be more submissive is not worth sacrificing my good mood for!
