Johnny Appleseed: A Man Going His Own Way?

How do you like them apples?

So yesterday I quoted some random Spearheader who described women (well, white women in particular) as “complete parasitical whores roaming the landscape spreading VD like Johnny Appleseed and fucking men over.”

One reader wondered if Mr. Appleseed really went about spreading VD. So I did a little research, and it turns out that it is exceedingly unlikely that Mr. Appleseed – who actually was a real person — spread anything other than the magic of apples. And his Swedenborgian beliefs.

Why? Because Mr. Appleseed – real name John Chapman – was what these days we might call a Man Going His Own Way. Seems he didn’t have much truck with the ladies, according to one contemporary account quoted in his Wikipedia entry:

On one occasion Miss PRICE’s mother asked Johnny if he would not be a happier man, if he were settled in a home of his own, and had a family to love him. He opened his eyes very wide–they were remarkably keen, penetrating grey eyes, almost black–and replied that all women were not what they professed to be; that some of them were deceivers; and a man might not marry the amiable woman that he thought he was getting, after all.

So what led poor Mr. Appleseed to these dire thoughts about women? Apparently the underage girl he hoped to some day get with was more into dudes who weren’t him:

Now we had always heard that Johnny had loved once upon a time, and that his lady love had proven false to him. Then he said one time he saw a poor, friendless little girl, who had no one to care for her, and sent her to school, and meant to bring her up to suit himself, and when she was old enough he intended to marry her. He clothed her and watched over her; but when she was fifteen years old, he called to see her once unexpectedly, and found her sitting beside a young man, with her hand in his, listening to his silly twaddle.

That ungrateful little strumpet!

I peeped over at Johnny while he was telling this, and, young as I was, I saw his eyes grow dark as violets, and the pupils enlarge, and his voice rise up in denunciation, while his nostrils dilated and his thin lips worked with emotion. How angry he grew! He thought the girl was basely ungrateful. After that time she was no protegé of his.

But Appleseed, despite giving up on women in the real world, held out hope for the afterlife – explaining to others that he expected to have two spirit wives all his own after he died. Which I guess is the 19th century equivalent of the MGTOWers today who fantasize about the sexy robot ladies who will eventually, it is hoped, make actual human females – with their troubling “thoughts” and “needs” and “desires” of their own – obsolete.

Mr. Appleseed’s quest to remain alone was probably also helped by the fact that – if the illustration I found on Wikipedia is any indication – he looked a bit like Dale Gribble from King of the Hill. Only much, much sloppier, with long hair. Oh, and instead of wearing a baseball cap, he wore “a tin utensil which answered both as a cap and a mush pot.”

So, yeah, a creepy weirdo who hates women — definitely an MGTOWer all the way.

Oh, except that he actually did something with his life — you know, helping spread apple trees to a big portion of the midwest — instead of spending all his time going on about how all women are whores.

The funny thing is that I quite like commas in general. It’s just when Meller uses them that I want to gouge out my own eyeballs to avoid the pain caused by trying to figure out what the hell he’s talking about.

Bagelson,

It only sounds complicated because of the preconceptions that you have carried with you all of your life regarding government. Like most people, you confuse the criticism of government provision of the service–badly overpriced, defective, and outdated, to say nothing of dangerous–with the provision of the service itself. The provision of security, conflict resolution, and insurance is inevitably going to be far better when it is consumer-driven, entrepreneurial, and individualized than it can be with a bureaucratic, one-size-fits-all, inflexible system which you, and other subjects of government, are required to support whether you get any benefit or not.

Outgrow your statist, bureaucratic prejudices, and then look at what we libertarians have to say…

Not because I’m opposed to adjucation systems or polycentric law, but because you weren’t making much sense.

Meller: I read what you write, it just bear very little resemblance to common reality. I’ve actually taken a (small and non-representative) poll of the men in my life, and every single one of them has expressed revulsion at the thought of a woman blindly doing everything they said. And yet you claim that deep inside, this is what every man wants. You are, once again, confusing your thoughts and feelings with those of everyone else. Figure out the difference, please.

Meller wants to arbitrate his child raping?

I hope those little girls save up their allowances, so they can press charges against all the MRAs that are after them. Or so they can hire hitmen. …I’m not actually sure which of these DKM is advocating here, but I see no way it could go wrong!

As an anarchist and Wobbly-to-be, I’m a proponent of radical labor organization, wildcat unionism, and far left anti-corporate action. Yet, I think there’s a crucial mistake made in seeing goverment regulation and state action as the foe of the corporation or friend of labor

I thought libertarians were FOR corporations and capitalism though? or am I still having a hard time wrapping my head around libertarian-socialism?

sorry for the dumb question >_>

Firstly, where did this loathsome gibberish about “child raping” come from? Lord knows, there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in my posts where i was trying to describe an outline of how private-law private-property anarchism might work in practice on this issue, or anywhere else, as far as I know!!

Let me conclude this very brief comment by saying that even, or even especially, in an anarchist society, I should think that raping–or even attempted rape of a child–would be met with prompt and summary public execution of the guilty party!

End of story? I HOPE SO!

“Hey buddy! Pst, over here! Yeah, ya wanna conflict resolved? Have I got a deal for you, my man! We’ve got two fer one hits, or you can getta free beatin’ thrown in for every guy that fucks with you that we cripple! Don’t go with some sloppy cutrate shit like Kneecappers N Sonz, they’re freaking lame as hell man, they honest ta gahd once shot a guy in only one knee and then just let ‘im hop away like no shit! But me and the boys at HitPro (TM) have the highest reviews on Yelp ’cause we always go that step further and really sock it to whatever dude you want lynched! Or whatever lady, we don’t discriminate, we’ll kill her too. Check out this flyer; ‘For individualized security for the Rand on the go, don’t settle for less than your friendly HitPro’! Fucking classy! Friend us on Facebook!”

Really, the only problem I see with this concept is you know all the illegals will totally start killing people for like $5 a pop and stealing those “arbitration” jobs from hardworking whites. 🙁

I’m happy to enlarge your sample size: I couldn’t think of anything more ghastly. The happiest marriages that I know, very much including mine, are between people with matching IQs and strengths of opinion. If my wife blindly agreed with everything I said or kept dissenting views to herself, life would be extremely dull.

I–along with other libertarians, will gladly take my outline of CR/Arbitration service firms competing in a free market, and YOU are welcome any day of the week to the dystopic nightmare of competing government gangs such as you describe! The best outcome that can evolve from your kind of society is the kind of warfare-ridden, State-ridden world that we see now.

Indeed, if you want to take a genesis of the State, anywhere and everywhere, it is very likely that every government (including the US government) had an origin quite similar to your bloody and chaotic caricature of mob rule!

I will take the private property based and consumer oriented, entrepreneurial firms outlined above any day of the week, and twice on Sunday! You, and other manboobzers (and manboobzeresses) can enjoy your apocalyptic “Mad Max meets Clockwork Orange” democrazy.

It probably is where this G-dforsaken toilet of a “country” is headed at rifle bullet velocity anyhow!

Guys, guys, I think I’ve figured it out.

Poor DKM is from a cyberpunk dystopia and accidentally wandered into a portal to a parallel universe and found himself here.

He must be so dreadfully confused. 🙁 With our government and our liberated women and our illegal “arbitration companies”, and no one wears black leather and mirrorshades!

Meller, have you no concept of human nature? people tend to be assholes. Greedy and looking out only for themselves. What do you plan do to when the power structure inevitably leads to a few firms running everything? what happens to all the poor people? what happens to people who are sick and have disabilities? what happens to natural resources, which are currently being bled dry? What makes you think in a free market everyone will play fair? how can we ensure markets play fair? Who runs healthcare? do sick people have to compete for it? Are there even laws that everyone must follow in your new society?

You make no fucking sense.
