Some douchebag is impersonating me on Reddit; r/mr mods won’t ban him

So some douchebag is impersonating me on Reddit. I post as manboobz. He (or she) posts as manboobz_. (That is, with a little underscore at the end.) Luckily most of the faux-manboobz’ comments are fairly easy to tell from mine — this is not someone with a great sense of subtlety — so at least some of the regulars have figured out that this bonehead is not actually me. Not all of them, unfortunately.

As impersonating someone else is a violation of Reddit’s rules, and an asshole move to boot, I politely asked the Men’s Rights subreddit’s mods to ban the faux-me. Here was the response:

Stay classy, AnnArchist!

I like Dad 2 Boys. He has a certain charming… steampunkness… about him.

EWME: I am not sure if you’re parodying what you think we think, or expressing your actual opinion. Either way, I was committing abominations ALL last night.

Thebionicmommy – Also, if the MRAs weren’t jerks in the first place, we wouldn’t dislike them, thus we wouldn’t want to make them look like jerks.

If someone’s actual beliefs aren’t hateful or inflammatory (something manboobz_ tacitly admits by making up worse ones), why be in a vendetta against them in the first place?

That’s exactly right. Sometimes I wonder if the some MRA’s think of everything as some kind of game. They have chosen a side and they want to win, no matter what. If they make a bad argument, and feminists counter it with logical argument, they’re mad. They have no intention to learn from the other side and reconsider their opinion. Instead they get mad and invent a straw feminist that is much easier to take down. It’s the same kind of stubbornness I see from so many radical tea party people.

I live down the street from BU, and I gotta second Holly on MRAL’s denial not being all that suspicious. BU is a huge private university and, from my experience walking around there, there are a ton of entitled douchebags. (And lots of perfectly nice people too, of course.) I don’t see any reason to assume MRAL was connected.

Wow…. I’m starting to think that mocking these MRA people is like mocking a dog. The dog is still gonna woof happily and continue to lick it’s own balls no matter what you say to him.

“He’s not impersonating you! He’s just using your name and pretending to be you in an effort to smear you! How is that impersonation?”

This is it: the stupidest argument I’ve seen on Manboobz. And I’m a close follower of NWO.

@MRALWT: I’m betting that the neo-nazis would be more welcoming than the culture you’re denigrating through hate language because, after all, you’re talking the neo-nazi talk.

Shaenon: It says a lot that Brandon’s grasp of what “”impersonation” means is worse than his understanding of economics.

Brandon: While your daddy may be a lawyer, your understanding of contracts is laughable. The fact that you can come up with some convoluted theory on how a contractual provision is ambiguous doesn’t mean courts will buy it. In fact, in my experience, courts have very little patience for this kind of precious bullshit.

bagelsan:

(I am glad that manboobz assumes a level of goodwill on the terminology stuff though; prevents a lot of wanktastic meltdowns over slightly out-of-date phrasing or misinterpretations. :p)

Goodwill is a kyriarchal construct developed to excuse bigotry I know exactly the sort of meltdowns you mean.

Brandon:

Each contract is looked at separately

Are you in an English-speaking country? I thought you were in Massachusetts, but if this is true anywhere people speak English, I think it’s only Louisiana

svilova:

Okay, someone needs to create a Brandon_ account here and start posting ridiculous stuff under that handle!

I was going to post as 13randon but I was afraid David would feel he had to ban it.

Holly:

I can actually think of a couple of reasons, though none, I think, that apply to David.

I actually did a Brandon_ mockery. Dave didn’t let it out of moderation. I used my same email, so the gravatar would remain the same, but it was a form of impersonation; albeit satirical/topical.

I immediately confessed to it, just in case.

But I also didn’t give it better than 50/50 odds of being released.

Shit, that included a response from another thread. Well, I’m glad to see the strike tag working as intended.

Step back, Pecunium; I’ve seen Legally Blonde like 5 times, so I think that I might be the proper match for Brandon knowledge-of-the-law-wise.

I filed lawbooks back on the shelf back in my library days so I think that I might be the proper match for Brandon knowledge-of-the-law-wise.

I really don’t care about the law. The question isn’t “Is impersonating David to make immature cartoon-feminazi comments against the law?” or even really if it’s against Reddit policy.

Impersonating David to make immature cartoon-feminazi comments is stupid and douchey. If you agree on that, why bother bending over backward and combing the fine print to justify it?

So basically, /r/mensrights is a cesspool where they have no dignity and can’t follow basic site rules? Yep. Also, they accuse feminists of not being able to debate and/or being “irrational,” but then they resort to allowing others to impersonate them to make the real person look bad. AnnArchist should not be a moderator. He isn’t doing his fucking job.

Hell, that whole subreddit should be taken down like /r/jailbait. A lot of the time, they’re not even on-topic. They whine when someone posts about LGBT rights, but then they’ll fill half or more of their front page with anti-woman/anti-feminist crap. Fucking hypocrites.

That’s right guys, Pecunium totally owned Brandon with his DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL INSIGHTS from his years as a HARDCORE BADASS.

MRAL, you accusing someone else of macho posturing is fucking hilarious.

When have I ever macho postured?

Rutee Katreya

You do realize Brandon posted fanfic of himself punching a woman out, right? If that’s going to be your complaint it would appear poorly aimed even if it were applicable.

Of course, that last clause really puts the lie to this; Pecunium and Brandon are talking about points of law, primarily. These are facts, and while you are allergic to facts, MRAL, the rest of us are not. It has little to nothing to do with Pecunium’s background,a nd you were the first to mention it.

Well, Brandon *did* talk about how none of the women in his self-defense class could beat him, but I think it was Bagelsan that expanded it into fanfic. 😛

Talking about intelligence isn’t macho posturing. As as for the other thing, I was just stating objective facts.

He had a pretty elaborate story first, before Bagelsan wrote even more fanfic.

Why do I have Steve Urkel in my head now when reading MRAL’s postings? He is a new version of the “Did I do that?”
