Two things DKM:
1. since when is a mock hanging the proper response to anything anyone says? Seriously. When is it? When is it okay to hit someone with an ax for something the person says? Why is okay to threaten a woman with death for her doing what? Pointing out that her husband was or is incorrect on something? Does this mean that your response to one of us would be hit us with an ax?
2. The men who filed for divorce due to wifely desertion were rarely (as in 1 in 1,000) granted. The reason was that generally the men in charge of granting divorces knew why women left. And it was not because they were disobedient or harridans. It was because the men were abusers and the judges knew so they refused to punish the women for the male behavior.
Also, I do not believe you read many books, certainly not more then say myself who rarely manages to get through a book a week like I once did. I miss taking the bus. 🙁
I never said that abuse or cruelty of any form was okay, least of all not when its consequences may be fatal to the victim, but and yes, I too would grant a divorce to a woman in the plight that you cited. No I won’t hit anyone with an axe–in answer to your (hopefully, tongue in cheek) question. I don’t know why the man in question behaved so monstrously, but frankly, neither do you! However, their being “disobedient or harridans” is as plausible an explanation as any. I you can read, you would have read tha I don’t consider this an excuse or a justification, merely a likely EXPLANATION of his otherwise frightful misbehavior. Most men–including the men in charge of granting divorces–I should think loved their wives dearly, wanted them to be happy(under extremely difficult and unlikely circumstances) and treated the mothers of their children with consideration, tenderness, and love.I don’t KNOW this for certain, not being there, PFKAE, but as I told you in a previous post, the first time machine I buy, I will be glad to travel back to ask the men concerned, as record their replies for you. Until then, the assumption that men and women loved each other, and women welcomed their opportunity to work with men in the growing of a new family, and that female desertion was as rare and perhaps inexplcable as the occasionally abusive husband, still stands! There is nothing in the book you cited, or others like it, that, when properly understood, contradicts this!
I don’t think that you women really realize how hateful you can be! No, most men will not kill or torture you because of a disagreement, but if you want to get a glimpse of women being hateful, just look at your posts to, or about, men (like yours truly) who express some small disagreement with you.
Venom is being explored for some of its medical properties, from anticoagulant to pain control, from cardiac rhythm stabilization to anti-infection sterilization. You can be a part of this!
My G-d, you (and most of the rest of your feminist sisterhood) should go into the venom testing business! Go get your latest vaccination certificates, especially for Rabies, then go to the nearest medical laboratory where venom is being tested, let them extract some from you grrrlz, (the extraction procedure, is, I understand, painless) and you females can join the scorpions, spiders, jellyfish, and snakes who are contributing to medicine in an important way!

I have expressed disagreement with you and disbelief over the number of books you claim to read. That is not being rude.

Also, either it is legitimate or not-if you agree that there is no call for such behavior by a man, it is not “even if she did X” it is no, there is no just cause for that kind of behavior.

I emphasized what advantages there were, and are, in happily acknowledging and even cherishing the DIFFERENCES and INEQUALITIES between the sexes, differences and inequalities which give human life, in our families, our communities, and throughout the species as a whole, much of its meaning and flavor.

I do think embracing the diversity in human beings is a very good thing. However, I contend with the assumption that all that diversity is split between “men” and “women” who are always inherently different from each other in similar ways. I also have a problem with just up an assuming women are unequal, and calling us all man-hating unisex harpies for disagreeing
