Some interesting links, the first two from Man Boobz regulars:
Holly Pervocracy on Ten Shades of False Rape Accusations
[S]ometimes it’s easier for a survivor to live with the knowledge that their rapist is free than it is for them to go through years of being under constant suspicion of being an evil false accuser. It ends with misogyny justifying and reinforcing itself, as the concept “women lie about rape” becomes both proof of and proven by “women are untrustworthy, manipulative, and malicious.” It ends with rapists who tell their victims “no one will ever believe you” being right, with society standing behind them.
Every time we reinforce the common wisdom that “women lie about rape all the time,” rape gets a little easier to commit.
Ozymandias on No, Seriously, What About Teh Menz: Take My Social Movement– Please!
All too often, the mainstream men’s rights movement is not gender egalitarian at all. All too often, those of us who support equal rights for everyone– no matter what our differences in opinion– have found our voices drowned out by misogynistic, rape-apologist and frankly stupid asshats. That has to change.
Gawker’s Adrian Chen on How a 14-Year-Old Girl Became an Unwilling Internet Pin-Up
Reddit is home to a whole network of proud pervs, and through Jailbait I came across another board dedicated to creeping on someone named Angie Verona. … Three years ago, when she was 14, Angie took some photos for her boyfriend and stored them in a private Photobucket account. The account was hacked and the photos leaked. Pictures of 14-year-old Angie posing provocatively in a bikini and lingerie were thrown all over the internet, showing up on message boards like Reddit and 4chan, and posted on porn sites. …
[E]very teen with a Facebook account has pictures like Angie’s. What’s fucked up is this trafficking of pictures of random underage girls that falls just this side of child porn, with no regard for the real life that might be ruined in the process.
First!
In re Perv…pretending that there are not false accusations is not going to make rape easier to prosecute, unless you mean prosecutuing the innocent…
In re Ozy…”equality” on your terms is not equality. Equality on mutual terms is equality.
Can I just be the first one to say, that I strongly object to the lame Internet Tradition of “First!”ing at ManBoobz? We either need to get on with the mockery or the discussion, and let’s dispense with the inanity.
Also, if I wanted to, I could be first every single time.
“…I’d rather live in a world where a hundred false accusers are told* “I believe you, I care about you, and I’ll stand up for you,” than where one rape survivor is told “gosh, this story has two sides and I really need to consider him innocent until proven guilty.”
http://pervocracy.blogspot.com/2011/09/ten-shades-of-false-rape-accusations.html
And supposedly it’s only we MRA’s that are chauvenistically batty? I don’t think so. God forbid we wait until Bob is proven guilty before condemn him. That whole post is pretty sickening.
David, don’t say that to your paramours.
‘Every time we reinforce the common wisdom that “women lie about rape all the time,” rape gets a little easier to commit.’ Pervocracy
‘pretending that there are not false accusations is not going to make rape easier to prosecute, unless you mean prosecutuing the innocent…’ The preteen who was way too excited about having the first post!!!! eleventy. *eyeroll*
No one suggested pretending that false accusations of crime don’t occur. They occur for all crimes. We don’t say ‘[insert sexuality/gender/race] lie about [murder/assault/theft] all the time. Can’t trust ’em as witnesses’. So there shouldn’t be a special category condemning women in advance for the possibility that they could feasibly make a false accusation about rape. It’s ridiculous. The same standard needs to be applied across the board for all crimes. That’s not to suggest prosecuting the innocent. It’s to say that we investigate all accusations of crimes impartially, no matter what social class/gender/race the alleged victim is. Full stop.
Magdelyn, you are cherry picking out of context as much, if not more, than all our favorite trolls like to accuse.
Holly laid out some very clear, logical suppositions, and that final line you quote (conveniently ignoring her footnote) comes after a lot of information and logic preceding.
But, you know, continue just throwing crap on the wall over here because Holly will not allow you to derail the thread at her own blog. David has considerately left a link up there for everybody to follow and Read The Whole Thing (as the internet tradition goes) for themselves.
About the 14 year old with the leaked pictures.
The comment that said, yeah I snuck out of the house and did a lot of stupid things when I was 14 but not this, where were her parents?
Where were your parents when you snuck out of the house and did a lot of stupid things? You who can forgive your teenage idiot behavior but not others?
This young woman has every chance to grow up and realize she made mistakes. The person who wrote the above comment clearly hasn’t grown up yet.
“…Magdelyn, you are cherry picking out of context as much, if not more, than all our favorite trolls like to accuse…”
Do you get the irony of your condemnation? You do realize (I can only assume), Zombie, that this whole website we are on is built on “cherry picking.” I’m not going to print the whole article, ’cause that would be stupid. The quote above is the punchline of the verbage. Please feel free to read the whole thing, since I stated, and stand by the statement, “that the whole post is pretty sickening.”
Eleventh!!!!
Well, good night folks.
Well, it’s nice that madgelyn admits that MRAs *are* chauvinistically batty. I’m assuming they apply the same “don’t believe rape victims until there’s a conviction” to male rape survivors too.
Really Kave? A bunch of people steal pictures of an underage girl and spread them around for wank fodder and your first instinct is to blame her? Take your victim blaming and go choke on it, please.
I don’t think that’s what Kave said …
Kave is criticizing the original comment on the Gawker thread. That comment and many others suggested that it’s this 14 year old girl’s fault that her bikini pics are on porn sites today, because she took the photos, put them on the internet, had her private account hacked, and because her parents didn’t stop her from doing it.
The implication of all of this is that the men who stole the photos and who are now selling them to others across the internet are blameless.
Ya know, magdelyn has a point. Ever read David K. Meller’s comments? Futrelle personally goes and cherry picks all of those. And all those upvotes of misogynistic comments on The Spearhead? Close inspection reveals they are actually cherries!
*dramatic hamster music plays*
I wondered why my blog comments suddenly had cockroaches.
(Well, that and this helpful thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/krkxr/ten_shades_of_false_rape_accusations_or_how/
I love the person claiming that they were “triggered” by the “gender rape” of my article. Classy shit.)
Maggie, stop willfully ignoring the bit where I say I’m not talking about legal matters but social treatment. If my post was actually so bad you wouldn’t have to lie about it.

Maggie makes me want to program a bot that trolls Reddit’s Mens Rights and collects posts, then quotes from them at random, weighted by number of upvotes.
My impression is that it would look a look like Manboobz sans the snark.
DSC, Kave wasn’t victim blaming.
Maggie’s played the “cherry picking” card, I wonder what’s next from the MRA and their sympathizers playbook. Hey Mags, you do realize they don’t really like the girls in the boy’s club, right?
It probably wouldn’t work for Manboobz-type purposes. Most manage to be inoffensive enough. Then one guy busts in with something like this, garnering 1 net point and one comment that doesn’t challenge his, uh, problematic statements:
http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/kqwfu/dna_test_excludes_man_as_father_man_ordered_to/c2mlwbs
No doubt Monsieur-Anana has laid out some clear, logical suppositions like “women are all bitches” somewhere else.
Moewicus – The thing that bothers me most is the lack of challenge. I don’t think upvotes/downvotes necessarily tell the whole story because not everyone voting at r/mensrights is an MRA (they whine about the “downvote brigade” of redditors who vote down their comments), but the fact that nobody ever steps forward to say “hey, dude, I’m upset about child support too, but not cool” is a hell of a lot more telling.
Holly: Some of the cockroaches were my fault, too; I linked your post at NSWATM.
David: Thank you kindly for the link, sir. (bows)
Oh Maggie, must you continue saying stupid shit that is inaccurate. I might have believed you, except I can pay attention. I don’t think this site represents the ENTIRE MRM… just enough of it to show what a fake social justice movement it is. The strongest contender you guys have is AVFM, which constantly has shit articles and lies about statistics. Not to mention other amazingly hateful shit.
Darksidecat I really wish you’d stop interrupting everything I say through your “dam him and his privileged upbringing glasses”. I no more asked to be born into a wealthy family then you did a poor one. In my opinion it seems we have both done well with what cards were laid on the table for us. Truce?
