Are MGTOWers all a bunch of closet romantics? In a recent discussion of some research which concluded that men value kissing and cuddling more than women in long-term relationships, a number of the regulars on MGTOWforums.com confessed that they … actually missed the affections of women.
BeijaFlor reported
I’ve gotten along for decades without sex OR cuddling. And I miss the cuddling, the snuggly affectionate feel of a loving partner, FAR more than I miss the sex. That’s one reason why I don’t call the call-girls; all they offer is the sex.
Golem added:
I’m going to have to agree with the touch thing, too. Hell, I can cut my own hair, but I’ll still drop the cash to have it done with a wash and a scalp massage just for the contact.
That’s actually just really … sad.
Even Nightstorm2516 — the legendary theorist of the Mousetrap Vagina – offered a poignant confession of his own:
I don’t know anyone elses reasoning for cuddling over sex but my own personal reason would be a huge deprivation in my life of affection. I get zero from women so thats a no-go for me. My male friends think hugging is gay via society programming so men show affection by “bumping fists” and “being cool”. My dad IS anti-affection. My mom showed me some affection, but she was so busy working to the bones, I don’t think I ever got enough. My sister and brother never showed me any love.
I think I value cuddling just because its something I never got to do. 26 Years without affection.. dam thats a long time.
That’s actually sort of heartbreaking – at least until I remember that this is the same guy who once argued that vaginas were like strange venom-injecting mousetraps:
This poison … creeps into the male brain and literally makes him stupid, it shuts down his intellect, and activates all his hormones for more pussy. She’s got the bastard. Now she can slowly but surely take all his wealth and keep pumping more poison into him.
It sucks – I mean really, genuinely sucks — that you got no affection from your parents, dude. But if you view women as monsters secretly plotting to entrap you with their vagina-poison, you’re not likely to get a lot of affection from them.
If you want to live a life that has more to it than bitterness and misery, get yourself off of MGTOWforums.com and find a good therapist.
And whatever you do, don’t listen to avoidwoman, MGTOWforums’ budding futurist, who thinks he’s got a woman-free solution to the affection deficit: perfectly realistic robogirls, which he predicts will be here in 2030. (Let’s just hope they’re a bit more reliable than the Cherry 2000 model.)
Yep, we’re back to the topic of sexy robot ladies.
In several comments in the thread, starting with this one, avoidwomen explained his waiting game:
I personally don’t even care for sex and I never want it. I would love romance, such as cuddling and kissing but not with human women, only women substitutes! …
I will get the chance to cuddle as much as I want by 2030 with robogirls and probably earlier when VR technology becomes advanced enough for the simulation to feel realistic. …
The few times I got the chance to be romantic with women, I really enjoyed it and never thought of going “further” or being “sexual” whatsoever. …
Then we got a reminder of just why he’s not getting affection from real, live human women:
Nowdays I just avoid women like the snakes they are! …
I am no white knight in real life, I will not protect a woman. But when VR and robogirls come, I will hold them in my arms. My robogirl will protect me outside the house and inside the house, I will cuddle and hold her. 🙂
Someday, his robotic princess will come.
Wow, that sounds rather religious. If you’re not a praying man, though, I’d say you can trust that the police, the courts and the legislature which are overwhelmingly male will look after your interests pretty well.
And those posters? Not misandrist.
“How would you feel, if your SIX YEAR OLD daughter had a poster saying “teach your daughters young and teach them often not to abuse or murder children” in her CLASSROOM?!?”
Not only would I be fine with that, since my sister is a pediatrician and I have friends who are devoted and underpaid social workers, I would love to have more campaigns targeted to women about the child abuse and neglect.
Nice false dichotomy, AntZ. What is it with MRAs and using children for their arguments? A parent-child relationship is not even remotely the same as a relationship between a boy and a girl who are peers.
You’re talking about two distinct situations: Boys, who will at that moment in time definitely be interacting with girls, and women who may or may not even have a baby some day.
Most people teach their daughters not to murder their children. It’s taught to girls by the very way society looks down on such things, to the point where girls are practically brainwashed into believing they’re supposed to grow up to have kids and be loving nurturing mothers regardless of what they really want.
Society isn’t teaching boys not to be abusive to women. Now it’s finally trying and you’re calling it man-hating? Because people care about our male youth and want them to turn into good men, and so therefore educate them on how to be good men? You are everything that’s wrong with the US, dude.
Plymouth, I was wondering about that. You’re more technologically savvy than I am by quite a bit but, it does seem like a robot that could realistically simulate cuddling -with all the sensory stimulation required- would be incredibly complicated and far into the future. And really, eally expensive.
The robots and virtual reality talk always make me think of this, from the manga Chobits (found link on Google) and I get really sad. 🙁
“I do believe that, in our current society, men typically hold more power than women (I know you disagree here, and I’d like to avoid that argument at present because it’s not the point).”
I do not disagree. some Men HOLD the power, all women HAVE the power.
Also, MRAs do not call these people-with-a-Y-chromosome who HOLD power “men”. They are the wielders of the burning blade of feminist man-hate. They have betrayed their people, in return for which they “hold” power.
No, clearly He-Man has the power.
That’s fine, Antz, but still completely beside the point.
Plymouth,
I guess the idea is that they don’t have to be perfect, as pretty much anything is better than nothing.
AntZ,
I don’t understand you. Women are roughly 50% of people, and a lot of them are really cool people. If anything, robot/VR lovers should make it easier for men and women to get along, as once you get romance and sexuality out of the picture, members of one group are people just like members of the other group. So why the separatism?
For the last effing time, AntZ, all feminists don’t hate men! About a zillion examples of this simple fact have been provided just in the threads I’ve been in, and you refuse to see anything that doesn’t fit with your neat, pre-packaged worldview. I’m beginning to agree with Ginmar – we have no reason to prove something that should be eminently fucking obvious to anyone who’s willing to look.
I suspect that the granfalloon disproportionately subject to negative court outcomes are the poor, and those who otherwise cannot afford to buy superlative representation.
all women HAVE the power.
I thought it was a babe with the power.
Oh man. I wish I was watching Labyrinth right now.
Nobinayamu: Just for you…
/me is singing along
Okay, that version is a little effed up toward the end!
Thank you Spearhafoc, I shot water out of my nose at the He-man comment.
I’d point out that the desire for cuddles/etc. is related to a desire for affection. It’s a generally accepted social thing that humans do, as it is a form of social interaction. Substituting robots for that affection seems… largely to avoid answering that desire.
What do they want? Is it an intelligent being capable of communication (and additionally, sentience) to physically interact with? Robots seem off just due to the current levels of AI. Unless they just want something touching them. Robots I might understand if it is just entirely touching that is somehow removed from all elements of social interactions around physical touch. But as far as I see it, it is the interaction that is desired. I don’t think AI right now would even provide that interaction.
I mean, it is difficult for some of us to just avoid human contact to begin with. It’s understandable that the concepts of MGToW would lead to feelings of isolation. But there are many methods to solving that. Having animals around, for instance, is intensely stress relieving.
I suppose I am questioning if they are understanding what it is they truly want out of the idea of a cuddles interaction. It seems some do, and others suggest something that still has an absence of interaction.

I support the “Give A MGTOW A Kitten” campaign! Maybe they’d get better! 😀
Anthony, can you give an example of your son being “humiliated and denigrated by the feminist public school system”? And I mean a real example of something that actually happened to him at school, not “there were posters on bus stops in California five years ago that you could interpret as being anti-male if you were being deliberately dense.” A child being harassed at school is a serious problem that needs to be stopped.
Meanwhile, I continue to have my doubts that your utopia of people interacting with imaginary boyfriends/girlfriends through VR goggles is going to appeal to most people, given that the original post is devoted to guys talking about how much they crave physical contact.
Hee. You guys know the original version, right? (I’ve never tried to embed a video, bear with me.)
(Come to think of it, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer is oddly relevant to another thread. Cary Grant rejects an 18-year-old Shirley Temple [very gently and while steering her towards a nice boy her own age] and falls in love with her older sister, Myrna Loy [who is a judge – in 1947!]. Yay for age-and-experience-appropriate relationships.)

Antz new invention will be so perfect *people won’t know the difference*! It’ll be just like the Matrix!
I just watched the Dolph Lundgren He-Man movie last night!
It was actually pretty entertaining, especially when Dolph Lungren flew around on a hoverboard, and also when he said anything.
I don’t think MGTOW want a kitten. They seem more like puppy people. Cats are too independantly minded for the sort of people who get into MRA/MGTOW.
@Shaenon
I think that the idea is that you would have a machine-brain interface giving you the sensation of actual touch.
Which doesn’t make the overall idea any less silly.
What did the poor kittens ever do to you? Although our psychotic kitten might have been a match for some of the MRAs… I have visible scars from her. Makes the ‘are you self-harming’ question from the therapist interesting when you have gigantic scratches on your hand and parallel scars, though.
I’d support the idea too, so as long as they actually cared for the kitties as well. It is sad to see abuse.
