I refuse to see dead people

We gave them the vote and they STILL won't shut up about it!

Apparently, all that time I spent studying history in college and grad school was a complete waste of time. Because once people die, nothing about their lives or the events that happened during their lives matters. At least according to merlin34 in Reddit’s Men’s Rights subreddit, who recently set forth this cogent argument as to  “Why feminists should SHUT THE $^%# UP about women’s suffrage in US/UK.

The 19th Amendment of the US Constitution was ratified in 1920, before that year’s election. At the time, the voting age was 21. Any woman who was denied the right to vote would have had to have been born before Election Day of 1898. Today, she would be 113+ years old. That means dead.

In the UK, it was in 1928 that women were granted equal voting rights to men, again at the age of 21 (although women over 30 were given the vote 10 years earlier). Any woman denied the right to vote based on sex in the UK would be over 105 years old now. There’s still probably some around, but not a lot, and not for much longer, and they weren’t denied the right to vote for long.

What does this have to do with anything? It means that feminists using the “women weren’t allowed to vote, wah” or “black men got the vote before women of any color” canards should SHUT UP, because the list of those actually denied the right to vote based on sex is rapidly diminishing. In another ten years, none will remain.

Naturally, the comments are also a delight. OThompson says:

You can also tell them that Suffragettes were often domestic terrorists.

AntiFeministMedia adds:

It isnt just feminists though is it, its any woman you get into an argument with.

If its not ‘women wernt allowed to vote’, its ‘rapists get off scott-free’. They ignore the context. When did universal sufferage for men go ahead in the UK? 1918?

Most women are ignorant of most of these issues, but they are happy to just parrot all this stuff because that makes them victims, and so they get privileges they arent really entitled to.

They dont care wether what they are saying is out of date, or that most men didnt recieve the vote untill very recently either, they only care that the female gravy train of victimhood keeps rolling on.

Is the Female Gravy Train of Victimhood anything like Soul Train? Because that would be awesome.

“They’re probably referring to the substantial benefits, both spiritual and material, that can be gained from playing the victim.”

Yeah, they’d know all about that wouldn’t they.

Ion, I’ll be happy to provide examples of discrimination. If, of course, you’re willing to provide examples of how feminism has negatively affected you on a personal level.

There was another troll that was like this back in comics blogging, that feminists refuse to acknowledge the “privilege of victimhood” xD This reminds me a lot of that…

They’re probably referring to the substantial benefits, both spiritual and material, that can be gained from playing the victim.

Such as? 😀 How have I benefited from being a survivor of rape? How has my mom benefited from being a survivor of domestic abuse?

What I don’t get is how these idiots manage to forget that societies take time to change, and that culture takes generations to catch up to legislation (see: vast amounts of casual racism in the US even though we’re about 50 years out from the Civil Rights movement). Pretty much everyone alive today grew up or were raised by people who grew up in an era where women were actively discouraged from finishing college and committing to a life of house wifery, where women could not apply for house loans or credit cards separate from their husbands, and where spousal rape didn’t exist. Growing up with that sort of poison doesn’t exactly do wonders for your understand of gender roles for either sex. I think that each generation tends to generally move forward towards gender equality. But the “Feminine Mistique” poison is till VERY much alive and well today.

Wait, are we getting the “no fair bringing up stuff from Grandma’s time!” argument from the same guys who routinely whine that they don’t get enough head-pats for the heroic things they imagine cavemen did?

In the U.S., universal men’s suffrage was ratified in 1870 and women’s suffrage in 1920–not exactly a short time later.

And, yes, the “some men suffered even more than women” argument only makes sense if you think there were no poor women in the past. And also if you think people shouldn’t get to complain about being forced to eat poo sandwiches as long as there’s a guy somewhere who’s eating even poopier poo. No one should have to eat poo! Sheesh!

Ion, plenty of people here (including me) have suffered from discrimination and oppression. But you have stated before that you don’t believe women are oppressed and that privilege doesn’t exist. So I’m going to go out on a limb here and say even if we do provide you with examples, you’ll just attempt to explain them away.

You don’t deserve to get any personal details from anyone here. Maybe if you ever start arguing in good faith with a truly open mind, we’ll talk. Until then, don’t hold your breath.

@Ami: You get feminist cred. That’s totally better than not being raped. And full pay, equality of opportunity in hiring and promotion…

““Nobody says women were never oppressed, many point out correctly that it was men at the top and at the bottom and that women were spared worst of the oppression.”

“Again with the “no peasant women” argument, sigh.”

I will clearly state with 100% certainty women were never oppressed. To even suggest something so ludicrous can only come from feminism.

Lets go over history one more time.

For every woman who was “locked in the home” there was a man forced to work or die of starvation. He didn’t have a choice.

For every girl who was pledged in marriage there was a boy also pledged in marriage. So unless all girls are angels and all boys are devils there was no oppression.

For every woman who had to do housework there was a man who had to work to support the family.

For every wife/mother who lost a son/husband to war/work death. He was dead she still lived.

Women were never oppressed. If you wanna play the oppression olympics women have never died disproportionally compared to men from anything other than breast cancer/birth and thats biology. Death is the ultimate oppression and women aren’t in the league of premature death as compared to men.

Every morning when you wake say, “women were never oppressed.” If feminists can’t do that, you know you’re supporting a hate movement.

I was sexually assaulted once. Does that give me MRA cred?

I have no idea. But there are, apparently, a bunch of spiritual and material benefits to be gained by playing the victim.

You should look into them. I wonder if they’re anything like a swag bag.

I don’t think I have PTSD, to tell the truth. I used to get depressed a lot, but now am pretty well medicated. Here is my story: http://www.fauxwhore.com/2009/04/this-is-not-happy-post.html

One thing I would like to ask of MRAs/MGTOWers who say that history/science that disproves their arguments are “biased”: What is it about the historians/scientists that causes them to look at things “the wrong way”?

That brings up an interesting question 😀 What do you say when you wake up every morning NWO? xD

M Dubz

Jezus, magdelyn. I am SO SORRY that happened to you.
My point was less specifically that rape/sexual assault necessarily leads to PTSD, (I was also assaulted, under MUCH less traumatic circumstances, and have no lasting ill effects) and more that the mental and emotional effects of actual sexual assault are not exactly cheerful ones. Plenty of people go on to thrive after an assault, but it’s not exactly something people tend to take pride in.
