America: Land of Soulless Hamster Wusses

Street harassment: The engine of civilization

Here’s a little screed, originally from happierabroad.com, that’s been making the rounds of the manosphere lately. The author, anonymous, describes himself as “an Arab, who has lived and travelled all over the world and is a keen observer of society and people.” The aim of his writing? To let those of us in the West know just how disappointed he is with all of us.  Especially the wussies and bitches.

Meeting Westerners, one of the things I noticed was how insecure and de-masculinized they seemed to me; compared to myself and the male-dominated, testosterone-driven culture of my land.

Using my own keen sense of observation, I have noticed just an eensy weensy bit of misogyny in his writings.  You may notice it as well.

On the internet, most Americans seemed to act like little bitches, little girls brought up in a Feminist perversion of nature.

Well, I don’t know about that whole “perversion of nature” thing, but I have to say the first half of that sentence is pretty spot-on.

It was only after coming to the U.S. and studying here that all the pieces came together – a fascinating look at a dysfunctional man-hating civilization that is the polar opposite of my own culture, and will eventually lead to the collapse of Western civilization.

Uh oh.

Where I come from, men walk proud and rule the streets and testosterone runs in the air; and strong patriarchal foundations of family and the father as ruler of the household. Men harass and aggressively follow women – it is unapologetically a man’s world.

That’s what makes a civilization great: the harassment of women.

Just remember this, men, when you lean out of your car window to yell “Nice ass………WHORE!!!!!!!!!” at passing joggers of the female persuasion, you’re doing your bit to uphold our most noble traditions and help to fend off the forces of darkness.

In the U.S., Feminism has so corrupted the society to it’s core, damaged the very concept of family and the family unit and the father’s role, that society as a whole is like some bizarre alien planet – where men are bland, lack personality, are anti-social, gossipy, soul-less. Men are weak and insecure deep inside … women have all the power and American men seem clueless as to how bizarre the male-female dynamic has become.

How bizzare?

In the workplace, Americans are Automatons, like soul-less hamsters on a wheel. Fake conversations, no intellectualism, no interest in other countries, peoples, or history.

Do soul-less hamsters act differently than soulful ones? How can you tell the difference? Do the ones without souls poop more?

Also, terrible social and people skills – at least in California. Most people communicate via twitter and Facebook, even though most of the people on their Facebook live in the same city and a phone call away.

Really? You’re complaining about Facebook? Sorry, that’s just lazy and trite. You’re like the Dane Cook of reactionary misogynist cultural critics.

People are vacuous, shallow, superficial, suggestible. Men raised here are fake, insecure, lack personality, they seem to have “issues.” Women are confused and messed up ..

Wait, what’s that? Is that the dreaded MRA two-period punctuation mark? NOT AGAIN!

Oops. He’s still talking:

You let your women take control, and your society will unravel- it will make your men weak, and destroy your society to it’s core. The patriarchy is a male conceived and enforced institution that was imposed on females, because men, and only men understand well the long-term impacts of civilization and harnessing male energies into productive family units and a stable society …. civilization itself is a result of patriarchy.

You know, if you’re really into harnessing your male energies, you can buy the necessary equipment right here!

To sum if up, it seems to be that the whole country is phitzoprhenic [sic], like a Jekyll and Hyde monstrosity. There is no community, no camaredie, no soul, men and women are willing servants to their corporate masters and slaves to materialism and superficiality; and incredibly conformist, reserved, and politically correct to the point of totalitinarism.

“Conformist?” So now he’s turned into a high school goth?

Come on, dude, if you want to be a social critic, you’re going to need to work a little harder than that. Take a tip or two from this, er, duck:

I happen to like men who are masculine and women who are feminine

We all have preferences, I don’t think ones persons preference should determine how EVERYONE should act. I prefer feminine men but I wouldn’t force the world to conform to my tastes. I don’t think you are arguing this but I have no idea what you are arguing so here is my response to your confusing point.

Also, are you saying you are bi? : D

The only way to support the free marketplace of ideas is to support the free marketplace of all ideas– even ones that are wrong to the point of being evil.

OK, but that doesn’t means that evil ideas should not be shamed or immigration should not be controlled. During the Cold War all Western countries had immigration policies that prevented them to be flooded by Communists from other countries – they had enough problems with their own Communists. And if you shame evil ideas, you must shame evil ideas of everybody including foreigners. Europeans have always ridiculed the religious Right in the US and during the Danish cartoons affair in 2005, they completely shrieked to radical Muslims and it was the same thing when a fanatical pastor wanted to burn the Koran last year.

Womens oppression = not slaughtering the unborn.
Womens oppression = not kidnapping and extorting money from a childs father.
Womens oppression = not given special consideration in employment.
Womens oppression = not given special consideration in education.
Womens oppression = not having free daycare.
Womens oppression = not having restraining orders a phone call away.
Womens oppression = not incarcerating men on a womans word.
Womens oppression = disagreeing with a woman.
Womens oppression = not having free health care.
Womens oppression = not having everything paid for.
Womens oppression = anything a woman says oppresses a woman.

Luckily, women have been busy lobbying hard and as of today the debt ceiling has been raise an extra 2 trillion dollars. On the downside women wanted soooo much more. Women wanted at least an extra 5 trillion debt passed on to the taxpayer. How can men be so greedy? After all, men have always oppressed women and reparations need to be made. Whats money compared to a womans love, wisdom and devotion?

Nobinayamu, wasn’t that the time that he decided to reveal his lurid fantasies about me being topped by two women?

No, it was actually about being topped by a man and a woman, with you as the cuckold slave-boy. And I think we both know it’s no fantasy. 🙂

Also, are you saying you are bi? : D

In your dreams, maybe. Also, saying I like men acting like men and women acting like women makes me bi? That doesn’t even make sense, even as a dumb insult.

In this thread: Ion learns that trying to use someone’s personal life to insult them can quickly and embarrassingly backfire.

To be honest I don’t know anymore either, after getting so many confusing/baiting/straw-man replies I didn’t even see the point of arguing further. It was something like “I think men and women should retain a basic gender identity lest everyone becomes genderless androgynous clones.” “GLARBAGL misogynist douchebag ARGLBL$#!@#!@ you’re bi!!”

No, no, it wasn’t an insult ion it actually sounded like you were saying that; I’m not the only person that thought thats what you meant just look back a couple pages. I didn’t think that I just wanted to clarify.

So, Ion, lurid and detailed speculation about other posters’ sex lives is on the table as fodder for insults now, right? Or should I wait for our host to provide clarification on this particular brand of mockery? ‘Cause your posts provide a veritable smorgasbord of material and opportunity. And I’m feeling froggy.

As for your points about gender identity, perhaps they’d be more clear if you provided simple, illustrative, examples of what you mean by masculine and feminine. You know, something beyond assigning things like “emotional” and “gossipy” to the term “feminine.” Offer something substantive.

I still don’t know who was telling men they couldn’t be GRR REAL MEN. That seems like a strawman. We’d like to tell men they can’t be grrr-real-men at women’s expense–not if their idea of manhood requires harassing or controlling women–but if they’re not hurting anyone, they can be as manly as they please.

Really zero people here are arguing for the abolition of gender identities. We’re just arguing there should be more than two.

Holly Pervocracy

…Also, as someone who really is pretty genderless and androgynous, I’m not a clone! I still have the full suite of unique traits and quirks and foibles. It’s not like my closet is full of identical gray coveralls just because I don’t have a strong gender identity. I still have an identity identity.

(I’m not evangelizing androgyny here, just pointing out that it’s not the same thing as homogeneity.)

I do think the concepts of “real man” and “real woman” are meaningless. When Ion says “men who act like men” he means “men who enact the stereotypes of masculinity in my culture”. The contents of that are constantly shifting, contradictory, and impossible to live up to.

So no one does! I’m pretty womanly myself – I wear my hair long, wear mostly feminine clothes, wear make-up when appropriate, enjoy cooking and sewing, and am great at charming middle-aged men, which is a plus in my line of work. Plus (big announcement time!) I’m three months pregnant, thus fulfilling my womanly destiny of being frequently nauseous and constantly tired and needing to buy all new pants.

But I also do home repairs, kill spiders without compunction, and don’t mind going to the movies/shows alone. So what am I, Ion? Am I womanly enough, or should I start shrieking whenever I see a spider and make my husband take me to see “Bridesmaids” just because you like it better that way?

Ion: re your various comments about, “manliness” from the first page of comments… they don’t hold water. You are advocating that some sort of, “masculine” behavior be the norm.

You don’t really define it, just say you know it when you see it, and imply; based on completely different cultures, that it makes everyone happier.

Then you go projecting your fears (interchangeable androgynous clones) onto feminism. I don’t see feminists arguing for that. You want to not approve of people going their own way, fine. But I don’t have to like or approve of that, and I’m going to be vocal in my disapproval, because I think that sort of pressure hurts people and society.

The thing is you have what seems to be some pretty narrow definitions of masculine and feminine, and attribute the manifestations of what you see as the opposite gender’s role as neurotic. Neuroses is a not a neutral term. It implies mental imbalance, and psychological problems.

That you think that sort of expression is neurotic certainly implies you do want men to conform to a set of behaviors. Then you imply women will be “less flaky” and better able to deal with the men.

That certainly seems to be an argument for gender essentialism to me.

Congrats Kristin!

What’s funny is that Holly and I are both genderless, vaguely-masculine, geeky, androgynous people, and yet we are very different people and I am pretty sure you could take the top post of either of our blogs and easily figure out who’s writing what.

It’s like NWOSlave complaining about the sluts in slutwalks wanting to be sluts without being treated like sluts – but never quite specifying what treating someone like a slut involves (rape? Contempt and scorn? Offers of foot massages?). It’s almost like they have a set of ideas that’s so fundamental and all-encompassing that they have no idea how to communicate with people who don’t share…have trouble imagining people who don’t share it, for that matter. I wonder what you would call such a thing?

redlocker

The funny thing is that even the method for defining feminine and masculine traits could be flawed due to The Problem of Induction. How many times does a person of a particular sex have to perform a particular action in order for it to be the norm for that sex? 10 times? A million? Even 2,000 years of tradition isn’t not be enough to define it due to how (relatively) quickly things change on the cusps.

Don’t forget, the Romans considered Pink to be MASCULINE. Why is it that one holds the current norms to be proper for one’s sex, yet dismiss the Romans in some of their dealings? Are the Romans wrong simply because most people socialize their little boys with blue? By what standard can one base it all on if one counter example can crush it?

Hindu: I don’t support the free marketplace of ideas if it means supporting the free market of evil ideas. I am not an “idea relativist”.

Who gets to choose? Why does that person get to choose? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Because there are a lot of people actively working to make it the case that people who aren’t in favor of a Christian, patriarchal, homophobic, gender unequal society, is the norm to which all adhere.

Why shouldn’t they get to decide who comes into the country?

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, pink was for boys because it’s a diluted red, which is the masculine colour of blood etc. Blue was for girls because it’s the colour of the Virgin Mary for some reason.

Also babies used to be dressed basically identically until the age of 2 or so, which is why you might have a picture of your grandfather as an infant in a lace gown and ringlets. Now we gender babies pretty much from birth.

I’m still waiting for Ion’s verdict on my womanliness. Neither my biology or comfort with my gender assignment can make up for the lack of his approval. XD

I’m really uncomfortable decreeing that certain traits are inherently masculine and feminine. Now am I more likely to find a Hello Kitty backpack totally adorbs than a guy? Probably. But…some of the strongest and most accomplished people I’ve known have been women. And some of the most kind and nurturing have been men. As to gossip, well, all the dudes I’ve known have been pretty INTO gossip. Juicy news is juicy news, people. We all like hearing it.

Though I “present” as someone stereotypically feminine, I have assembled roughly a third of the furniture in my house. I also purchase and set up all our computers and peripherals. ALL OF THEM. I have a much larger music collection than my husband am much more into music than he is. (Also his taste is shit.) I love electronic gadgets. If I had my druthers we’d have a really posh home stereo system. I care much more about these sorts of things than he does. Does that make me less feminine or him less masculine? Um, I don’t think so. But, as I said before, I’m pretty uncomfortable saying THIS is masculine and THIS is feminine–always and forever.

And before anyone interjects to say I think men and women are exactly alike or want men and women to be exactly alike, I’d like to preemptively say no. No, I don’t think men and women are exactly alike and mostly I like that. That being said, we’re probably more alike than we are different.
