America: Land of Soulless Hamster Wusses

Street harassment: The engine of civilization

Here’s a little screed, originally from happierabroad.com, that’s been making the rounds of the manosphere lately. The author, anonymous, describes himself as “an Arab, who has lived and travelled all over the world and is a keen observer of society and people.” The aim of his writing? To let those of us in the West know just how disappointed he is with all of us.  Especially the wussies and bitches.

Meeting Westerners, one of the things I noticed was how insecure and de-masculinized they seemed to me; compared to myself and the male-dominated, testosterone-driven culture of my land.

Using my own keen sense of observation, I have noticed just an eensy weensy bit of misogyny in his writings.  You may notice it as well.

On the internet, most Americans seemed to act like little bitches, little girls brought up in a Feminist perversion of nature.

Well, I don’t know about that whole “perversion of nature” thing, but I have to say the first half of that sentence is pretty spot-on.

It was only after coming to the U.S. and studying here that all the pieces came together – a fascinating look at a dysfunctional man-hating civilization that is the polar opposite of my own culture, and will eventually lead to the collapse of Western civilization.

Uh oh.

Where I come from, men walk proud and rule the streets and testosterone runs in the air; and strong patriarchal foundations of family and the father as ruler of the household. Men harass and aggressively follow women – it is unapologetically a man’s world.

That’s what makes a civilization great: the harassment of women.

Just remember this, men, when you lean out of your car window to yell “Nice ass………WHORE!!!!!!!!!” at passing joggers of the female persuasion, you’re doing your bit to uphold our most noble traditions and help to fend off the forces of darkness.

In the U.S., Feminism has so corrupted the society to it’s core, damaged the very concept of family and the family unit and the father’s role, that society as a whole is like some bizarre alien planet – where men are bland, lack personality, are anti-social, gossipy, soul-less. Men are weak and insecure deep inside … women have all the power and American men seem clueless as to how bizarre the male-female dynamic has become.

How bizzare?

In the workplace, Americans are Automatons, like soul-less hamsters on a wheel. Fake conversations, no intellectualism, no interest in other countries, peoples, or history.

Do soul-less hamsters act differently than soulful ones? How can you tell the difference? Do the ones without souls poop more?

Also, terrible social and people skills – at least in California. Most people communicate via twitter and Facebook, even though most of the people on their Facebook live in the same city and a phone call away.

Really? You’re complaining about Facebook? Sorry, that’s just lazy and trite. You’re like the Dane Cook of reactionary misogynist cultural critics.

People are vacuous, shallow, superficial, suggestible. Men raised here are fake, insecure, lack personality, they seem to have “issues.” Women are confused and messed up ..

Wait, what’s that? Is that the dreaded MRA two-period punctuation mark? NOT AGAIN!

Oops. He’s still talking:

You let your women take control, and your society will unravel- it will make your men weak, and destroy your society to it’s core. The patriarchy is a male conceived and enforced institution that was imposed on females, because men, and only men understand well the long-term impacts of civilization and harnessing male energies into productive family units and a stable society …. civilization itself is a result of patriarchy.

You know, if you’re really into harnessing your male energies, you can buy the necessary equipment right here!

To sum if up, it seems to be that the whole country is phitzoprhenic [sic], like a Jekyll and Hyde monstrosity. There is no community, no camaredie, no soul, men and women are willing servants to their corporate masters and slaves to materialism and superficiality; and incredibly conformist, reserved, and politically correct to the point of totalitinarism.

“Conformist?” So now he’s turned into a high school goth?

Come on, dude, if you want to be a social critic, you’re going to need to work a little harder than that. Take a tip or two from this, er, duck:

I mean, this is the genre that brought us Katy “Ur So Gay” “I Kissed A Girl” “Hot n Cold” Perry. I think Lady Gaga should be graded on a curve here.

Oh. Um… so Madonna is the ultimate femdom? o.O

Still, even tho she wears the suit, it still seems pretty hetero to me. 😛 “Born This Way” at least has that great line about how “I was born to survive”.

I think the criticisms of that song (at least from those that I’ve heard it from) are more complicated than just “chola”… I also don’t think they’re saying the song is bad, or -ist or nething, but that the msg is problematic even if the song can be inspiring (it’s kinda like the whole being problematic about race doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or you have bad intentions xD )

http://www.walkingbutterfly.com/2011/02/20/we-werent-born-this-way/

For example, that (which I just found btw to illustrate some of the complaints, so it’s not something I’ve held onto and agreed w/, nor do I think the song is bad, tho I do have issues w/ the “born this way” msg for queer activism in general, unrelated to the song… xD But I just wanted to show that I think the criticisms is more complicated, and that’s what a lot of ppl are talking of when they say they have some problems w/ the song/msg/whatever) :]

I dun think nebody is saying that it’s terrible for a pop song, but it’s still mass media w/ a msg that’s being consumed on a mass scale, so I think it’s fair for ppl to have concerns about it if they have concerns :]

Seriously though, I can’t figure out what Ion’s trying to say. That people are this way? That people should be this way? That people should be free to think of other people this way? These are all different arguments.

Ami: That’s a really interesting critique! I mean, I don’t mean to suggest that the song isn’t problematic on some levels; however, I think the good it does (in encouraging people to accept and love themselves and in raising awareness of social justice issues) outweighs the problems in its message. Also I like the song. XD

Yeah, I totally understand why arguing that you’re born a certain way is a compelling way to say stfu to fundamentalist Christian types – but whether or not someone is born a certain way doesn’t then dictate how you spend the rest of your life, or hell, what being a certain way *means* to everyone and to you. Also, growing up changes a person! It’s not like we’re in a cultural vacuum where one can be just essentially queer, how it’s expressed and what it means is certainly historically variable. Basically, I think shaping an argument to counter someone else’s ridiculously messed up construction of you (fundamentalist christians who think queer people are evil) is not a good idea – and it necessarily means that it’s reductive.

I also take ozy’s point about Gaga and context – I’m loathe to criticize most feminist fantasy novels cos of the badness in the genre (Gor was mentioned earlier – and yes, I agree that’s a totally apt description of this dude’s utopia!)

Also joining the chorus of – ‘Ami’s therapist has issues’! *sends evil vibes their way*

“One of these days, these “feminism is destroying civilization!” ranters should get around to explaining why the most feminist-influenced countries are, generally speaking, the most powerful and prosperous ones.”

Um we’ve already explained this a hundred times throughout the manosphere. Maybe you should do a little research before you blabber. Our civilization became successful (powerful and prosperous) without feminism. Only such an advanced (powerful and prosperous) civilization could ever support feminism, but not for long. Feminism is self-defeating, so don’t expect a feminist civilization to be powerful and prosperous for long. Even now the economy is already in the shitter and only going downhill. Sad, really.

All we can hope is that after the collapse we remember the lessons we learned. If so, people like you will go down in history as being culpable for the collapse. If not, it will just happen again.

Well, the manosphere keeps saying it, but I’m not sure they’ve ever explained it.

@Things Are Bad:

“Our civilization became successful (powerful and prosperous) without feminism.”

Yes.

“Only such an advanced (powerful and prosperous) civilization could ever support feminism”

Possibly, but chances are no.

“Feminism is self-defeating, so don’t expect a feminist civilization to be powerful and prosperous for long.”

No. Just no.

Only in stable civilizations where people have a say in their government can people talk about civil rights issues. And yet women are being empowered all over the globe, from educating women in the middle east, to providing aid in Africa, and so on. All of these things are correlated with more stable and healthier nations.

But you have done next to nothing to explain how feminism is self-defeating, simply made the unfounded reasoning that we became prosperous and powerful because we didn’t have feminism, and the economic collapse is happening because of feminism. You can’t just show correlation, you have to provide a mechanism for how feminism acts the way it does. It’s like the anti-tiger stone of Simpsons fame, only you forget to take the stone with you when you go out on a safari and start seeing tigers.

Yeah, I’m not quite seeing the connection between “women allowed to do stuff” and “civilization collapses.” But neither do I see the connection between “women allowed to do stuff” and “workers being corporate cogs,” “women allowed to do stuff” and “Americans taking no interest in other countries,” or “women allowed to do stuff” and “Facebook,” so maybe this is just one of the things I can’t grasp with my tiny lady brain.

I mean, the great civilizations of the past also had cholera. Does that mean civilization will collapse if people aren’t dying of cholera? And they didn’t have fish tacos. Does that make fish tacos responsible for the economic crisis? (If that’s true, I’m siding with fish tacos.)

Civilization became powerful and prosperous without iPods. Only an advanced (powerful and prosperous) civilization could produce the iPod. Of course, once civilization collapses because of our foolish use of iPods, we’ll have learned our lesson.

@David: Yeah, I’m guessing “some guy in Silicon Valley” given the focus on Facebook and obsession with California, plus the emotionally-cramped supremacist fantasies. Pretending to be “an Arab” is just an attempt to get outsider cred from somebody who thinks that all “Arab” countries are like Gor with the burqa.

Ok, so according to the Manosphere in general, and our Things are Bad right here, all we have to do to recoup civilisation is to start oppressing women and harassing them on the street. Somehow, I have a feeling that is not an actual workable plan.
