Happy Fourth of July! At least for my readers who live in the US. The rest of you can have a happy day as well, but yours will probably involve fewer fireworks. Anyway, no misogyny today. Instead, here’s a kitten making its own fireworks with the help of an iPad. Consider this an open thread.

Wow, this has been fun to read. NWO, you are absolutely terrible at not getting invested in hatred xD. Your schtick of “answering” questions with vague, general answers is fooling no one. ^__^ So tell me, NWO, how specifically does the “state” promote LGBTQ as a social norm? XD In other words, what policies, what governmental organizations, what laws? (Oh btw, the link you keep posting? teaching kids that LGBTQ exists is NOT the same as forcing them to become LGBTQ )
So, what’ll it be, NWO? Are you gonna explain exactly how your crazy theory works? Or are you really just spewing generalizations without them actually meaning anything? Cause I’m pretty sure its the latter. ^__^
awwww :O
*hugs Doctress Julia* ty :3 and you dun need to run away xD
I guess I am gonna do it now! 😀 I think I need a photographer friend now for the sample headshot thing xD At the very least I need somebody to hold my camera xD
NWO is back in faux self-flagellation mode again xD
@David:
“I will let through comments of yours that aren’t hateful and/or tedious and/or blatant misrepresentations of what other people have said.”
Aww man, David… Why’d you have to go and ban NWO?
My sexual identity is really…I don’t know. For starters, I am bisexual…but I’m afraid that I may not be doing enough to fulfill that label. Especially after reading about one OKCupid survey where the majority of men who say that they’re bisexual on the site don’t go after guys at all…the only guy I went after was a guy from CT who’s pretty much a nerd like I am. I seem to go after girls more often, even though I have no problem with gay relations at all.
If I’m going to call myself something, I want to make sure that I’m accurate. I probably have a lot of time before my sexual identity ever solidifies. Or maybe I’m just overthinking things.
Say what you want about Slavey, but he does pull his weight as a troll. I mean, seriously, who would even notice if Ion stopped commenting?
Well, having a life outside this blog does take its toll on my free time. Also has its rewards, though. You should try it sometime.
Ithiliana–I hope there’s no wildfires. So far in my neighborhood, no one’s been dumb enough to set any fireworks off, but it’s still early.
Has Eoghan disappeared forever? I’ve been lurking for months and enjoying all of his reincarnations.
aw crap, guess I’ll go watch fireworks after all.
I think most ppl here are pretty honest that they’re here partially for the hilarious trolls xD
It does tend to go dead unless there’s a personal issue going on or we discuss a serious topic (like the ED thing xD )
That or it livens up cuz of me xD So trolls and Teh Ami :3 David should rly pay us xD NWO wouldn’t accept it tho b/c he doesn’t accept state funding xD And David is funded by Feministe which is funded by the state xD
Ah, yes, the “At least I have a life unlike you LOSERS” card, best used when one is losing.
Ion, you are on a roll.
I think we had the “gov’t is BRAINWASHING kids into being GAYGAYGAYGAYGAY” conversation with NWO ages ago. I don’t know why I’m responding, since he thinks that acknowledging the existence of LGBTQ people = forcing kids to be gay, but anyway…
NWO, in the last thread you compared pregnancy and childbearing to the common cold and you appear to be entirely ignorant of the gender/heterosexuality conditioning children go through pretty much from birth. I think we should add “having, raising, and educating children” to the very, very long list of “Things about which NWO knows less than nothing”.
@redlocker, it took me a long time to really own my bisexuality. Good vibes your way, and identify however feels right to *you*. Other people’s approval of your label notwithstanding!
@redlocker:
Interestingly enough, I;ve identified as straight, but I might possibly be a little bisexual, even though I’ve never actually pursued a guy for a relationship. But the thought doesn’t bother me, and I could imagine being in one. Sexuality is kinda fuzzy and grey-area-y, so I doubt each label we have perfectly describes everyone. Also, if “bisexual” means “sexually interested in both sexes to some degree,” I’d have the feeling that nearly everyone was bisexual…
I wouldn’t get too hung up over the label. No matter which label you choose, you’ll eventually have to explain to people about your particular brand of sexuality.
Hippodameia: i know!
And while I was a bit…taken aback at first, being more used to the feminist blogs which moderate more strictly (which I fully support, given the way some feminists and some women who are blogging not even about feminism, but tech, have been viciously harassed and stalked online and offline and had to shut down blogs), the more I read here, the more I realized it. I lurked a while before commenting because, well, that’s the smart thing to do in any space, try to get used to the norms.
And the more I read the great range of takedowns, the more I began to enjoy it: linking, erudite explication and expert lectures on topics Trolls are ignorant of, the other mockery (I’m saying, the all caps bit had me in tears of helpless laughter–because, it was like he said “I dun’t like all caps,”–as if he expected people to pay attention! A Troll who expected people he routinely viciously attacks to pay attention to what he does or does not like!).
Ion: I don’t think I’m the only honest one–I’e seen lots of people here talk about how they enjoy sharpening their argument skills and debating points.
It’s not the only purpose of the community, mind you–there’s a lot of bonding and sharing personal information and cats and gendering cards and asking for advice–because this community is more than just the mocking–it’s a community–and I find it very attractive.
And David puts the purpose right there at the top of the blog: you haz been warned. It’s a blog for mocking misogyny. Why should you or anybody else be shocked when that is what happens????????
@KristinMH:
I think NWO would benefit from a little state education about sex and gender 😉 . Maybe then he’ll understand why knowing that gay people exist doesn’t force you to sleep with dudes.
Ion, of course people here enjoy arguing with trolls. Commenters here “admit” that all the time. That’s how we get 1000-comment threads.
I generally don’t mod anyone unless they go over the line with really nasty personal attacks or violent remarks. NWO went over the line repeatedly in this thread.
Ah, yes, the “At least I have a life unlike you LOSERS” card, best used when one is losing.
Ah yes, pointing out what the other person did in an attempt to make yourself look superior. Keep trying, maybe someday someone will pay attention to you.
xD
@redlocker he does that a lot, I’m starting to learn xD the little passive aggressive throwaway xD (watch)
@Ithiliana I always like the trolls coming by xD It sharpens my Rodeo Cat skills :3 *bounces*
And I always love it when they declare I’m like the worst person here too xD I’m evil and vile and cruel! xD
xD He actually did it before I even posted the (watch) xD
@David Futrelle what things did he do that crossed the line? o: this felt like regular NWO except he was flailing a little more than usual xD
Ami, I love how NWOslave knows you’re the most evil EVAR but doesn’t remember anything specific about your identity, even though you’ve discussed your history before.
But with me, a cis woman with a name that’s a tribute to a great cis female filmmaker, he can immediately identify that I’m trans. Just from the name.
The man is a natural marvel.
redlocker: while currently identify as queer, I also identified for years as bisexual–it’s a long complicated story about which term is used when, and I won’t talk about it in this public space. However, don’t worry about what other people say about sexuality, or fall into the fears based on policing that’s done. I once had a woman tell me that one was bisexual only if one had had sex with exactly the same number of women as men–which um meant at least one threesome, i pointed out to her–she said that because of her own fears–she’d had sex mostly with men and some women and yet didn’t want to identify as anything but straight. I once had a lesbian tell me that she’d rather sleep with a married straight woman than a bisexual woman–I said, I thought a married woman sleeping with a lesbian might be a bisexual! I was told I could not join a lesbian support group because I identified as bisexual even though my friend who was married to a man and had never had sex with a woman was a member because she identified as a lesbian. *holds head*
I didn’t realize I was bisexual until nearly thirty (thank the goddess for Holly Samms on General Hospital) because where and when I was raised had two types of sexuality: “normal” and “like that” (always expressed in hushed tones, always only of men”). (But even though I wasn’t aware of it, there was something that pissed off a lot of my close friends’ mothers and in a few cases boyfriends or husbands in the earlier days despite the fact I wasn’t having sex with anybody).
I also think that it’s possible to talk about sexual identities without focusing only on what genital contact people have had–there’s attraction and physical response and emotional connections–and EVERY label is too narrow/restrictive, that’s sadly the nature of language.
So, well, don’t worry about being accurate or living up to anything anybody else says — it’s what you think, feel, say that’s important!
xD That’s true! xD
I identify as bisexual, but I think I’m more like pansexual… I dunno xD Gender seems to have v little to do w/ how I feel about ppl :3
Thanks Kirby and Svilova. It will be a long time for me, but thanks for the support.
