If you thought the “meat market” guy from a couple of days ago – you know, the one prattling on about the “market makers of pussy” — was risibly wrongheaded, here’s an even more insidious attempt to reduce the complexities of human sexuality to a question of “supply and demand.” Over on The False Rape Society blog, Pierce Harlan has a new post with the title:
False rape claims: increasingly a tool to skew the current economies of sex, where sex is cheaper than most women prefer
As you might imagine, the post itself is based on some fairly twisty blame-the-victim logic – with some feminist-bashing thrown in for good measure. Let’s wade through the muck here.
According to Harlan, the “cultural tenets governing sexual encounters” have gone all loosey-goosey in recent years, due to birth control, a general loosening of sexual mores and “the feminist-inspired norms that pressure young women to ‘party like the guys.’”
I assume you have all read Mary Wollstonecraft’s classic A Vindication of the Rights of Women to Get Totally Wasted and Fuck Some Dudes.
But, alas, feminists totally don’t understand the law of supply and demand –and that in the market of sex, they are the supply and not the demand (because it’s not like women ever really want to have sex themselves). As a result, the feminist-inspired young women of today are totally flooding the market with cut-rate pussy.
As Harlan explains:
The experts tell us that men have a much easier time obtaining sex than they did in days long gone. … Women who’d prefer to put a higher price tag on their sexuality are finding themselves locked out of the market.
The results are all too predictable. Women are having sex more often when they secretly are conflicted about it. We’ve frequently reported here about the proven gender “regret asymmetry” where young women have much higher levels of after-the-fact regret than men following sexual hook-ups. Regret too often is transmogrified into feelings of being used, and feeling used too often metamorphoses into a false rape claim.
Does Harlan have any evidence to back up this hypothesis? Yes. And it comes straight from his ass.
Having studied the false rape phenomenon closely for a number of years, it is my conclusion that young women are increasingly resorting to false rape claims as an inappropriate method of skewing the current economies of sex, which favors men and which makes sex cheaper than most women consciously or subconsciously prefer.
In other words: he has spent the last several years searching out news stories on false rape accusations to post on his blog. Because there are almost 7 billion people on planet earth, he has been able to find a fair number of such stories. So he’s concluded that there is some sort of “false rape epidemic” going on. In other words, his conclusion seems to be based almost entirely on what’s known as the “availability heuristic,” which, as Wikipedia puts it, “is a phenomenon (which can result in a cognitive bias) in which people predict the frequency of an event, or a proportion within a population, based on how easily an example can be brought to mind.”
Were I to start a blog entitled “The Dudes Peeing on Things You Shouldn’t Pee On Society,” guess what? I too could cite many examples, drawn from the newspapers of the world. Were I to do this for several years, my brain would be stuffed full of stories of men urinating on just about anything that can be urinated on, from prayer rugs to cough drops. This, through the power of the “availability heuristic,” might convince me that we faced an epidemic of inappropriately urinating men, and that this epidemic was getting worse by the hour. (I mean, before I started specifically looking for such stories I almost never heard about this terrible social ill.)
But back to Harlan and his argument, such as it is:
Women are pressured by feminist-inspired norms to make themselves more available to men than ever, but they have also learned that crying rape after-the-fact is a culturally accepted, indeed, feminist approved, antidote to sex they feel was too cheaply obtained. Instead of saying “no” up front, they are retroactively saying “no” — with false rape claims — after-the-fact. And society has given this backward state of affairs its imprimatur.
One solution? Women need to stop having so much sex — for the sake of teh menz. Or as Harlan, still working the creaky economic metaphor, puts it:
One cure is to enhance the value of female sexuality by decreasing the supply and thereby reduce both regret and false rape claims.
But, darn it, this won’t work, because women are out there marching in the street for the right to, you know, have sex when they want to with consenting partners without being shamed for it.
That, of course, can never happen in a society where “slut walks” are celebrated as liberating events, where colleges excuse women from underage drinking charges so long as they report they were raped, and where false rape claims are routinely excused and implicitly encouraged. In short, it can never happen in a society that encourages young women to be promiscuous and to then tell rape lies when that promiscuity results in an unfavorable sexual experience.
Harlan ends his piece with a call to lock up false accusers for a long time.
Certainly malicious false accusers should be charged. Women who identify the wrong guy in a lineup? No.
And it would be nice if Harlan extended the sympathy he shows for falsely accused men to real victims of real rape, a much larger group of people than the falsely accused. But instead he writes pieces like this one, and links in his sidebar to a host of misogynist blogs that, among other things, routinely joke about female victims of rape and murder, that urge men on juries in rape trials to vote to acquit the accused even when he’s clearly guilty, that claim that age of consent laws are inherently man-hating, and that think it would be great if sex robots and artificial wombs rendered women obsolete.
Those actually interested in helping those falsely accused – rather than supporting Harlan’s retrograde agenda — would do better to support The Innocence Project, and to stop reading Harlan’s drivel.
I think that, or something like that, is probably a solid chunk of these self-reported “attempted rapes”.
Source: your ass.
Ah, all right. I read further and found that MRAL left a semi-retraction. I therefore semi-retract my accusation of ass-sourcing.
Capt Bathrobe – He pulled it out of his ass and then tried to put it back. That never ends well.
Plymouth,
Tell me about it! Or, ehrm, so I’ve heard.
@MRAL and other curious parties, the longest official recorded times spent without food is 73 days among a group of Irish hunger strikers, who lived an average of 40-50 days. There were scatterings of reports from the Russian army post World War II that some Russian soldiers had survived four months without food (we can presume these are true, as Russians can live an extra 17 days on just toughness alone 😉 ). Low body temperature appears to reduce starvation rates, which might actually mean that the Irish rates are atypical themselves, however (a significant portion of Irish, particularly Northern Irish, have low body temperature, a condition also known to occur more often amoung certain East Asian and Native American groups). Among the earlier mention hunger strikers, the fatter one started out, the longer one tended to live. While these things tend not to be tested too often for obvious reasons, people who end up in total starvation situations do not tend to start out with huge amounts of body fat. It has been hypothesized that a very fat person might be able to live as long as 170 days, but there are no pertinent records of this happening in practice. People of smaller stature also fare better in starvation situations. Women appear to do better as well, though it is unclear how much of this is due to the fact that women are generally of smaller stature and generally have a higher percentage of body fat, and how much is due to the fact that women appear to tap into fat reserves before muscle tissue more quickly than men (see the science on women’s dominance of super marathons for more on that idea). Pre-existing malnutrition and certain other health problems decrease survival time, as does being too hot or too cold (unless you are Russian, apparantly), or not having an abundance of water (long survival times only occur with an abundance of water).
Which makes his 200 days without food all the more amazing…:)
@Ion, I am a law student and I don’t have summer classes. Also, if I get a job that pays me monies but not tons of monies, I will be punished with death (this is only halfway a joke, if I make more than $200 a month, I will lose my healthcare, which pays out more than that on average, so working any job that pays less than 30-40 thousand but more than $200 a month just puts me in the hole). I could get a volunteer position for resume building purposes, but I have been feeling sick and anti-social. As I am thrifty enough to make two semesters’ living epenses cover the entire year, I totally do have a lot of free time at the moment…
That should be 30-40 thousand a year, not a month, damn, that would be high…
“Those actually interested in helping those falsely accused – rather than supporting Harlan’s retrograde agenda — would do better to support The Innocence Project, and to stop reading Harlan’s drivel.”
The innocence doesn’t deal with the falsely accused, it deals with the falsely convicted, usually a decade or more after they have been put in prison.
FSR advocates for them before that happens and raises awareness of the problem pre-false imprisonment.
Congratulations on finding a false rape society article out of 100s that you found that you could use to attempt to knock false rape accusation awareness.

“Is it just me, or does aMiRA do a better job of trolling than the trolls do at trolling? Her posts are way more fun to read than NWO, MRAL or Ion.”
bah, I find her posts painful to read.
http://www.urban75.com/Mag/troll.html says:
“Construct your troll in a manner to make it readable. Use short paragraphs and lots of white space. Keep line length below eighty characters. “
she doesn’t follow the basic troll rules, she’s a bad troll.
I LOL at the idea of basic troll rules.
I thought trolls were all the anarchy and chaos and all that seethes untamed in the souls of those who must defiantly speak out bout erm something under usually a fake name.
So it takes a TRUE anarchist to troll the troll rules!
Go aMiRa!
And yes, her posts are much more enjoyable to read in terms of basic craft than the other pathetic excuses for a troll who come here.
they’re painful to read for me, why all this chat slang… so annoying.
ok, maybe it’s my English…
@Pecunium,
“do you really think NWO went without food 200 days, in a row?”
Well, I’m assuming that’s what he meant because if he meant in his lifetime, I’m betting most of the people who comment here have surpassed that. I would be one of them. When I suffer from depression, I lose the motivation to eat. When I’m particularly sick, I don’t eat. When I was extremely busy with schoolwork, I sometimes forgot to eat. Now if I add up every time I’ve had a really bad flu and all the days I was extremely busy with schoolwork or suffering from depression during the four years I lived in residence, that alone easily surpasses 200 days without food. I can’t be the only one. Why, I bet even MRAL has surpassed that, and he seems to be one of the youngest regulars here. How about Ozy? And she’s nineteen. I can only imagine how many days without food people in their thirties and older have lived. So yeah, Mr. Slave, if you’re reading this, and you meant 200 days without food in your lifetime, colour me seriously fucking unimpressed.
Alex: To be fair, going without food because one lacks the means to procure is is quite different, psychologically, from just not wanting to eat.
I don’t know how many days I’ve had like that, probably not more than 200. I’ve had a lot of days where I wanted more food, but that’s not what NWO said.
Manboobz – the only place on the internet dedicated to mocking abuse victims and their advocates.
If you define misogynists as abuse victims, then you might be right, as regards the dedication part, but the internet is really big. There are lots of places actually dedicated to mocking abuse victims. Many of them do things like say women who were raped just made it up.
It goes even further than that – the False Rape guy counts every case where there was no conviction as a false accusation, which is really claiming apples are oranges. Failure to prove beyond reasonable doubt, in a court where not performing as a perfect approved type of rape victim stacks the deck against you, is not the same as the accusation being false.
Interesting, where does he do that? Haven’t read anything like that in this article.
In clear cases it’s ok to regard somebody as guilty even if he’s not found guilty by a court. Presumption of innocence is a legal right nothing more nothing less. It’s not mob mentality to think Jared Loughner is a murderer.
Before a woman gets charged with false accusation the police / prosecutors have some strong evidence to support this accusation. So I think it’s rational that this was probably a false accusation before a court found her guilty.
Rape on the other hand is one the most difficult crimes to prove. Very different from all other serious crimes because harm is often purely psychological. Intercourse is something people normally do consensual (instead most people don’t like to get seriously harmed or killed) only the fact that it was forced makes it a serious crime.
I meant:
not yet found guilty by a court.
Pecunium, you aren’t fooling anyone
this place is more or less the same thing as a Colosseum where people would gather to laugh as men get hurt, abuse victims and those that advocate them are a source of entertainment here.
“If you define misogynists as abuse victims”
This sites seeks out misogynists that were created by abuse, or uses rhetorical tricks to make them seem that way, mocks them and uses them to discredit advocates for marginalized and laughed at abuse victims, under the guise of fighting misogyny while at the same time clearly supporting misandry.
“There are lots of places actually dedicated to mocking abuse victims. Many of them do things like say women who were raped just made it up.”
You are a liar, like everyone else here, creating awareness for the falsely accused or the false accusation epidemic, isn’t saying that women that were raped just made it up and you cannot find any men’s rights sites “do things like say women who were raped just made it up” you will find awareness raising for the falsely accused, something that you and this site are clearly opposed to…. however you will try to appear magnanimous by supporting the release of the falsely accused some decades later.
You are just trying to justify their taking part in the mockery and suppression of abuse victims for sport. I have other words for this sort of blood lust, spite and heard mentality which I wont be printing here.
I’m glad for this site because it advertises and supports the men’s movements claims about the disposable male and men talking about their pain as a societal taboo, they are supposed to “man up” or face ridicule.
That’s all for you now.
“Those actually interested in helping those falsely accused – rather than supporting Harlan’s retrograde agenda — would do better to support The Innocence Project, and to stop reading Harlan’s drivel.”
Then why on earth are you reading his drivel and instead of doing something constructive? Why don’t you just leave him alone?
You have a strange obsession with this stuff.
“But instead he writes pieces like this one, and links in his sidebar to a host of misogynist blogs that, among other things, routinely joke about female victims of rape and murder, that urge men on juries in rape trials to vote to acquit the accused even when he’s clearly guilty, that claim that age of consent laws are inherently man-hating, and that think it would be great if sex robots and artificial wombs rendered women obsolete.”
I think you are quite happy that he behaves in that way.
In nearly all blog entries you don’t engage in an objective discussion, it’s always ad-hominem.
Yeah, of course that’s the purpose of your blog, it’s just about the fun. But then why all the moralizing?
If you always think this way you must be an creationist…
Didn’t Darwin say women are inferior to men in every human endeavor?
Darwin sounds like a MRA, so hey, evolution is wrong.
@Pecunium,
“Alex: To be fair, going without food because one lacks the means to procure is is quite different, psychologically, from just not wanting to eat.
I don’t know how many days I’ve had like that, probably not more than 200. I’ve had a lot of days where I wanted more food, but that’s not what NWO said.”
I agree that not getting food because you can’t afford it is different from not getting food because you lack the motivation to eat. And for the latter, it is different from “just not wanting to eat”; I have never gone a full day where I didn’t want to eat, but rather I’ve gone many days where schoolwork seemed more important or the depths of the depression I suffered made me feel like I should just waste away. I’m sure it wasn’t your intention but saying that’s “just not wanting to eat” is really oversimplifying things.
Anyway, Mr. Slave simply said “200 days without food”, he didn’t specify whether he was unable to procure it or whether it was because he was working very hard or because it was due to psychological factors. Considering Mr. Slave’s regular dishonesty, I see no reason to believe those 200 days were because he couldn’t afford it. Of note, I do have several female friends who have gone without food because they couldn’t afford it. I don’t know how many days that would add up to, but I’m pretty sure Mr. Slave is exaggerating the number of days even if he has gone through periods of not being able to afford food.
darksidecat Your info on going without food was interesting. My husband spent over 2 months in hospital & for a large part of that time, he wasn’t able eat. They did give him TPN (basically fat & nutrients by IV) for a little bit of the time, but mostly they didn’t. He then came home and continued to not eat/barely eat. He wanted to, but when you’ve starved for a long time, it’s really, really hard to get your body to accept food again. Luckily he was overweight, because he wound up losing over 150lbs in 4 months. He was a walking skeleton. I think another 10 pounds or so would have finished him. Luckily, our efforts to get food into him finally started to pay off. It still took another 6 months to get him back to a “normal” weight though.
This episode also completely proved the idiocy of the BMI, since according to it, at his worst, he was only 20lbs below his “normal” weight. You could literally count every rib, he couldn’t sit anywhere without padding because it bruised his bones, etc.

Im quiteing you
MB – Just Detention — I see very little support in the MRM for this group;
DF – because just detention is a feminist organisation that promotes falsehoods about abuse and rape, it promotes it as male perpetrated only, the mens movement is opposed to misandrist propaganda. You are demonstrating your lack of understanding or dishonesty here. The mens movement, will not support a discriminatory approach to abuse, the mens movement is largely reactionary to the discriminatory approach to abuse, so it will never support Just Detention.
DF – when MRAs talk about prison rape they generally use the issue to minimize the issue of women being raped outside of prison,
ME – you like most feminists are a pathological false rape accuser.
DF – and they do almost no practical work to actually help rape victims (male or female) in prison. The MRM does very little practical work to help men AT ALL; most of the energy is spent castigating women and feminists,
ME – the mens movement is grassroots and new, feminism is astroturn, its supported by the state, the political left, corporations and a justification for imperialism and long established. Plus the culture is geared to helping women and mocking men that need help, your own profession for example is based on this social construct.
DF – and I think there are plenty of harmful stereotypes about men, which can cause lots of problems for individual men.
ME – spread by feminists.
DF – Like the idea that men are basically beasts driven to rape by women dressing provocatively. Virtually every MRA article I’ve read about the SlutWalks reinforces this stereotype.
ME – thats a flat out lie, the men’s movement say that only rapists rape and that rapists are dysfunctional minority, feminism conflates this minority with men in general and the culture.
You have no counter argument against the mens movement so you have to construct fallacious ones.
Hey someone has written about you David.
“Hence, when David Futrelle wrote a hit piece on Scott Adams for Feministe, the feminist women on the site scoured and scrutinised his post for something, anything, they might take him to task for.
Eventually, they found it; he had used the word ‘idiot’. All the effort he had put into ingratiating himself to the feminist sector was quickly mooted, as flame warfare erupted, ignited by the spark that was his maleness.
A quick search of the site reveals several recent instances in which the term ‘idiot’ was used by contributors in much the same way, and yet passed without comment:
The fact that I’m somehow “supposed” to defend Polanski because I think it’s a good movie is, on the other hand, idiotic.
Jaclyn is getting some of the negative reactions she is just because some people are just idiots.
It sounds like something I would have done, because, although I was not a boy, I was a young idiot who enjoyed setting things aflame.
The names of the contributors in question: Natalia, Heather, Jill. Juxtapose that to ‘David’ and – what’s that? It sounds like a penny dropping!”
