Saturday Morning Cartoons: Choosing a husband, and the world’s first PUA

In light of some recent discussions here, I thought this cartoon seemed relevant.ย  I got it from my new favorite Tumblr blog, Comically Vintage. It’s astounding how many of the comic panels posted there — especially those from melodramatic 60s-70s romance comics — apply to the arguments in and around the manosphere today. Perhaps because the world in which these guys live is as imaginary and out-of-date as the fantasy world of 40 or 50 year-old Romance comics.

And while we’re on the subject, here’s a bonus cartoon. Here, crawling from the primordial soup, is the world’s first PUA! (Granted, he hasn’t quite worked out all of the tenets of modern Game, but, hey, he’s still a lizard. Just as human evolution took millions of years, evolving something as complex as modern PUA theory takes time.)

Hmm. That fish over there has sprouted legs. Is that an IOI?

However, the use of “womyn” by antifeminists says a lot about the antifeminists. Only a handful of second-wave feminists used “womyn”, but the antifeminists have made it part of their caricature of feminism. They can’t find any good arguments against feminism, so they confine themselves to attacks against the straw-womyn feminism that exists in their heads — and their constant use of “womyn” is the proof.

But I think the real question is this:

Karl Pilkington – Alpha, Beta, or Omega?

He’s short, bald, round-headed, and dumb as a box of hammers (ie twice as smart as the average MRA) but he’s famous and has a long-term girlfriend. So, what is it?

Johnny Pez – It reveals their misunderstanding of feminism on two levels! First that feminists actually say “womyn” very often, and secondly that “womyn” is obviously an affectation with no meaning, because come on, it sounds silly.

Since my favourite question box is here, & I need entertainment…

Hay MRAL (if that IS your real fake name! >_> )

So who’s the alpha, the NFL players or the owners locking them out? :O The millionaire jocks with the hard bodies and hot g/fs and over 6 feet tall (but who have an avg career of 3.5 years when pension starts at 4, and with shorter lifespans and possible long term neurological damage) or the billionaire, old (often short and small) men who own their careers? xD

Is Gary Bettman an alpha? Or Jim Balsillie?

Did Winnipeg alpha Atlanta by taking their NHL team, or are they just the beta who got back the team from an alpha city, or are they both Omegas for even being part of the NHL and who cares about hockey? xD

Who’s more Alpha, Shaq or Allen Iverson?

Is Matthew Hulsizer an Alpha for being a potential owner, or a Beta cuz he wants to use taxpayer’s money, or is he an Alpha cuz he can scam the Beta taxpayer’s into paying for his Alpha toy? xD

What’s your SSN/SIN?

What colour is your hair? How long is it?

How often do you shower?

What do you see beyond your fist?

To Ami’s many questions, I just have one:

If a guy isn’t an “alpha,” but is in a happy relationship (or is happily single), why the hell should he care?

Pretty sure Alpha’s are judged on the Money Respect And Looks scale, (or MRAL for short). This is a complicated, nuanced, totally-not-made-up-on-the-spot-even-though-it-coined-the-term-facial-alphas system that accurately predicts who will spit on you, and who is not worth your time.

Trouble is, the systems namesake is the only one who seems to be able to use it…

Does having an HBO show made about you count as respect? Because then Pilkington is definitely an Alpha.

I, for one, welcome our new Manc-git Alpha Overlords.

– Trick question, since there are ugly NFL players. Although I’d say that there are more alphas among the players than the owners. However, the more prominent owners are probably social freak alphas (SFAs).

– Both are social freak alphas.

– Dunno.

– Probably Iverson, because Shaq is too large, as are most basketball players.

– He’s an alpha.

– Brown.

– Once a day.

Holly, I suspect the answer is that those ppl aren’t ACTUALLY happy (at least the MRA/PUA stuff I’ve read seems to say this a lot, that men you see outside are sekritly miserable ๐Ÿ™ ) b/c you can’t possibly be if it doesn’t fit to the MRAL scale (thanks Kirby xD ) but I’ll let expertpants answer (any of them if some are lurking ๐Ÿ˜€ ) cuz I’m curious about the answer too ๐Ÿ˜€

Pilkers is an Alpha! Fantastic!

I love you, Leff-tennant! You’re hilarious!

As far as I can tell, with MRAL anyone who’s happy and doesn’t fit the alpha requirements is a “social freak alpha.” It’s a very flexible class. And thereby completely meaningless.

Although at the same time, it’s kind of nice, because at least it allows a loophole for ordinary guys to be in happy relationships, as happens all the freaking time in the real world.

like theyโ€™re too good to even given non-movie star men the time of day.

It’s 6:35pm Pacific Standard Time. Happy now?

Iverson is 6’0, that’s pretty tall by normal standards. It’s not at the “golden level” of 6’1, but it’s close enough to be tolerable. If he was my height he would not be an alpha, perhaps a beta.

Ami Angelwings

Holly beat me to it xD I was about to say that a theory that requires constant uses of “he’s an exception” (to basically encompass pretty much every guy out there xD) isn’t a very good theory xD

Ami Angelwings

Iverson is 5’9″-10″ xD You do know that all athlete profiles add 2-3 inches right? in all sports xD (esp basketball, any basketball journalist will tell you this, or even if you meet the players in person xD Like AI ๐Ÿ˜€ )

I don’t really believe that. From looking at him next to other guys, I’ll buy 5’11, but no lower.

Ami Angelwings

If he was my height he would not be an alpha, perhaps a beta. (I had a feeling somebody didn’t know the athlete height thing, and was gonna be using google xD Iverson wasn’t an accidental pick xD )

So he’s a beta then? ๐Ÿ˜€

HEY MRAL – I hate to be all “my boyfriend“, but since it’s relevant here:

My boyfriend is 5’9” and a bit pudgy–not huge, but around 200 pounds with a soft tummy. He’s got a nice jawline and is cuter than average, but no movie star. He also (I swear I’m not making this up) has one discolored eye with strange markings on it. He’s got a middle-class desk job which is not glamorous and is not making him rich. He’s slightly shy, very nerdy, an ultra-liberal environmentalist granola type, and an ardent feminist.

He has two girlfriends and we both love the hell out of him and offer him more sex than he can even handle. (And we both pay our share on dates!)

Is my nerdy, pudgy, funny-eyed boyfriend an alpha?

Karl Pilkington is an Alpha.

That’s all anybody needs to know about this Greek system.

MRAL do you have all this greek alphabet humanity math of yours written down in an old notebook or something, maybe the same one you use to write down all those elaborate fantasy violence scenarios? Or do you take from that scene in Russell Crowe’s “Beautiful Mind” and just write it on the walls and windows of your room?
Either way I can see you spending hours adding to your convoluted Alpha>Beta>Omega formula before punching your pillow till you fall asleep exhausted,

@ Holly – etymology (a word with two y’s!)

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Tolkien had this distinction in mind when he called humans Men in LotR. Tolkien was all about the Old English.

And I think he would have been pleased if some form of the wer-man/wyf-man construction had survived into modern English.
