>Survey says: Feminists not actually man-haters

>

Evidently she’s not a feminist.

From a recent paper in Psychology of Women Quarterly titled ARE FEMINISTS MAN HATERS? FEMINISTS’ AND NONFEMINISTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARD MEN:

Despite the popular belief that feminists dislike men, few studies have actually examined the empirical accuracy of this stereotype. The present study examined self-identified feminists’ and nonfeminists’ attitudes toward men. An ethnically diverse sample (N = 488) of college students responded to statements from the Ambivalence toward Men Inventory (AMI; Glick & Fiske, 1999). Contrary to popular beliefs, feminists reported lower levels of hostility toward men than did nonfeminists. The persistence of the myth of the man-hating feminist is explored.

Emphasis mine. Oddly enough, I discovered this paper though a link on the Men’s Rights Subreddit. Here’s a pdf of the study.

>If we use the feminist criterion for hatred (disagreement), then all feminists hate men. If you disagree with a woman, she easily accuses you of hating all women, so the reverse must equally be true. All feminists, or rather any woman that disagrees with a man, MUST hate men.

>The feminist criterion for hatred is not disagreement. If you disagree with a woman, she is no more likely than a man the believe or assert that your disagreement is hatred.

>Most feminists are unaware that the doctrine and its rhetoric contains and is fueled by prejudice and misandry. They are a like the people that say, "Im not a racist but…."Exactly so as evidenced by their support of anti equality in victim services, education gap and so on.

>Once again, they only picked one college campus, so at best, they can generalize only about that one campus. I didn't bother to look at any other errors (that I'm quite sure would be there) because that's one of the most significant. Poor study.

>I'm not surprised. Feminists are some of the least misandrist people I know. I don't hear feminists dismissing odd behavior on the part of one man with "It's a guy thing," implying that guys are stupid/immature/inobservant, or criticizing men for not playing sports/not playing sports well/liking poetry/showing emotion/doing anything "unmasculine." I do hear this frequently from unfeminist men and women. Maybe Nancy R. Smith had it right.

>AydanModern feminist dictrine is based misandry and female moral superiourity. Most modern feminists, including the ones here oppose equal rights for abuse victims if they are male and protect abusers if they are a female. I think that most modern feminists would not recognize this as misandry as according to their beliefs this position is correct and opposition to it is misogyny.I maintain that most modern feminists do hate men on some level or at the very least hold some very misandrist beliefs based on feminist pseudo scholarship, but aren't aware of it as being misandry.

>@Manhood—You are the reason why some MRA's are ashamed to be called MRA's…..you are the woman hating, socially rejected, academically disadvantaged reason why sometimes, just sometimes, abortion should be retroactive. If you were the yardstick by which mens rights advocates are measured, even I would become a feminist. Now run along, the grown ups are talking…

>@EoghanI'm thinking I'll just spit back your own arguments, since you just make generic statements, through changing the group specifics. I'll have to correct grammar and spelling though:"Most MRAs are unaware that the[ir] doctrine and its rhetoric [both] contain and [are] fueled by prejudice and misogyny. They are []like the people that say, "Im not a racist but….""

>Wow. "Manhood Academy" has some serious issues with projection. But obviously, I just hate him. Not because he's ridiculous, or because he hasn't even bothered to explain how his argument is more than "because I say so, if you disagree with me THEN IT PROVES ME RIGHT!", of course not. I just hate him.Because that makes sense. On another note, I want to point out how little MRAs take each other down for saying morally repulsive shit. I can't think of a day in my life where I wasn't calling out someone who counted as "part of my movement" for something really, really dumb.

>MRAs almost never call each other out for repugnant shit. They DO sometimes attack the Manhood Academy guys, but I think that's mainly because the Manhood guys actually attack them and call them "manginas" etc. If you scroll to the end of my "worst of the MRM" post, I link to a MR blog that defends almost every MR post I included in the list.

Given that psychology is a pseudo-science and the paper is in a feminist magazine it can be taken with a grain of salt. Feminists have proven time and again that they are man haters.

Andrea Dworkin? Gloria Steinem? and the list goes on.
