So at this point, we all know that a non-negligible portion of Donald Trump supporters are also fans of anime. And Hitler. Right?
Indeed, when Republican consultant Rick Wilson shocked his fellow guests on Chris Hayes’ MSNBC show by declaring flatly that a good portion of Trump’s followers are “childless single men who masturbate to anime” and have “a lot of Hitler iconography in their Twitter icons,” the real shock was that it took the mainstream media so long to notice this.
For the benefit of future historians, here’s my half-assed attempt to document the Trump/Anime/Hitler fan nexus, as it has manifested itself on Twitter in recent days
In some cases, the Tweeters in question managed to convey their love of Trump, anime and Nazis all in the same tweet. In others, it took a couple of Tweets. See if you can determine the level of irony in each Tweet. I can’t.
Enjoy! If that is the right word for it. I have omitted some of the more overtly racist memes I ran across, as well as a few tweets that contained disturbing photos of concentration camps. I also censored one image that was mildly NSFW.
To see more of the, er, artistry of Trump’s terrible fans, see this post of mine documenting how they celebrated his New Hampshire primary victory with racist cartoons, anime memes, and Pepe the frog.

You have been warned.
David – aren’t you also a childless single man?
Paul, yes. But that wasn’t really the important part of what Wilson said.
Oh look, Trump and Hitler molesting anime girls! And their fanboys are fapping to that nauseating imagery. What are the odds?
I wounder how many of trumps supporters will fail to actually vote for him because they’re too busy posting neo-nazi memes to the internet?
This was like picking up a big, flat rock and seeing all the squiggly little things trying to squirm away from the deadly sunshine.
I try to persuade myself that hollowed-out corpses filled with shrieking bats like this are extreme outliers, but how is it possible to be in regular contact with consensus reality and still believe that Donald Trump would be a competent President of the United States?
There was a great comment on someone’s Twitter during the Iowa primary where they said that half of Trump’s fans couldn’t make it out to vote because they were too busy harrassing people about there not being a White History Month!
I wonder which way round the cause and effect is – do anime fans like Hitler? I’m not sure why that would be the case. But I can’t think why nazis would enjoy anime, either.
@Robert
I’m sort of hoping that most of them are just trolling humanity or just supporting him “Ironically” and have no intention of actually voting for him and hope that he loses so they can rant about how a Jewish /feminist/SJW conspiracy stole the election from him.
IRONY ALERT!
In the first image, note the blond guy in the red coat. That’s Edward Elric of Fullmetal Alchemist. Now, while anime hair and eye colors are often assigned basically at random, Fullmetal Alchemist is specifically in a Germanic country. One that’s at probably roughly 1920’s tech minus planes and attacked an ethnic/religious minority in the Ishvalan War Of Extermination and the parallel you’re noticing is entirely intentional. Series ends with our heroes, including Edward, launching a military coup, intending to bring the perpetrators up on war crimes charges; technically speaking they fail because everyone above the rank of captain who participated dies during the fighting and the only known living captain to participate also led the coup. He actually intended to face charges too, but no one wanted to bring them.
Also I don’t think the two merchants to his right agree with Trump’s economic policies.
First, hello all! I should have said that the first time I commented, not the second, but there it is regardless. Been reading WHTM for ages but not participating (lurker).
Second, WHY did these people have to involve anime? Why? They’d better not have tainted it for me.
People actually fap to this?
Anime is mainstream, now. Who doesn’t like anime? My Drill Sergeants liked anime. I’ve had Sergeant Majors and Colonels who like anime. I suppose, though, that Nazis might have an added incentive to like anime if they thing the Japanese are still secretly on their side.
Well, at least when they’re making stupid ass memes, they aren’t voting or doing stupider shit. And with this lame ass trolling, they’re giving us entertainment.
@Guy
I just got done watching most of “Brotherhood” on netflix but they’re miss the final few episodes. THANKS FOR SPOILING THE ENDING
Just Kidding, Every one dieing but Mustang and him not facing charges isn’t really much of a spoiler since it obvious that’s where things are heading.
Michael Brew:
There’s a difference between enjoying some cowboy bebop (or whatever’s popular these days) when it’s on being the kind of fanboy these guys are.
Honestly I have no idea what to make of all this.
Is it sincere? Is it trolling? Are these people actually fascists and Nazis? Do they truly believe the things they type about ‘Negros’ and Jews or are they just trying to rile people up? I mean it’s clear they’re full of hate, but are they actually ideologically in line with openly evil dictatorships, or is it just some sort of perverse game to them…?
You leave Ed out of this, you bastards.
Chatlab:
I don’t really see how it matters. What they use to “rile people up” says a lot about them, as do the targets they choose. They can say or even believe they don’t “believe” in it truly, but again, why was this their choice?
I don’t understand the references to “anime will be made real”. What do they mean?
Also, anime has advanced European civilisation? They do know anime is Japanese, right? I’m baffled by how they can twist their racism to accommodate their love of an Asian art form, and then twist again to make it a driving force of “European” civilisation
I hope this post doesn’t lure Fifth Sealion back here.
I don’t want to actually research this to confirm (don’t have the stomach for that), but the “make anime real” crap may very well have started with Bernie Sanders (as a response from people who were skeptical Bernie could deliver on all his platform promises and wanted to make fun of that, not necessarily from neo-Nazis).
I’ve seen “Bernie will make anime real” posts on Facebook at least 4 months ago myself.
And yes, the continued insistence of the anime industry to continue pandering to sexually frustrated single males is really annoying (as if the other terrible tropes anime disproportionately incorporates weren’t bad enough already).
What a bunch of undercooked rutabagas.
Trump-senpai will never notice you. He’s too busy pandering to the meatspace Nazis to talk to the keyboard ones.
Anyone else notice the irony of them wanting to make America Aryan but also having anime imagery? Like do they not realize their precious waifus are Japanese and not part of their precious Master Race? Shouldn’t they be put to death for not being Aryan? Or are they special exceptions?
And what makes them think that their precious anime waifus would want anything to do with them if Trump managed to do the impossible and make anime real?
@ Paradoxical
Correct. Then, they try to parade the “fact” that men are inherently smarter than women, which isn’t true. I’ve noticed that their eyes glaze over when I mention sampling bias or statistical noise, or other neurology basics.
One of the things I’d like to try for an experiment and have it televised everywhere is separating people in 0.1% DNA difference increments, just to show how arbitrary and absurd racism really is.
Someone ought to start #ctrlaltdelright to troll them back.
Mish says:
Sorry, but anime is already tainted.

Paradoxical Intentions says:
If the Japanese were considered an exception by actual Hitler, how could they present a problem to all the wannabes?
@Guy: Check out the movie “Conqueror of Shamballa” – it is connected with the original FMA anime series. Edward ends up on Earth, specifically Munich in 1923 – with the characters discussing how similar the worlds are.
It also has Edward facing off against the Thule Society, and makes it clear where Edward’s politics lie. Which does make Edwards inclusion on that picture very ironic.
