Thread for Hostile Visitors to Endlessly Rehash the Issues They Have With Feminist Research or Whatever

Hey, hostile visitors! Do you have an opinion about, for example, Mary Koss’ rape research? Do you want to discuss it even though the topic has not actually come up by itself in any of the threads and none of my recent posts really have much to do with the specifics of anyone’s rape research? Well, from now on you can discuss it here with anyone who wishes to follow you to this thread.

Added bonus: If you continue to try to discuss it in other threads you’ll be banned!

This also applies to future derailers riding hobbyhorses of their own having nothing to do with Koss.

Happy discussing!

Note: If you wish to discuss the topics at hand, you know, topics directly related to my posts and/or to what other people are discussing and that aren’t, you know, personal hobbyhorses of yours that involve long screeds and various things that you’ve probably already cut and pasted into the comments sections of various other websites until you were banned from them for endless derailing and general asswipery, feel free to remain in the original threads.

My body is not a passive fucking commodity.

The image is eating a child. Eat veal, you’re eating a child, and a child brought up in a pretty nasty way. That’s offensive if you think people care about their kids more than cows do.
No, I mean sending up the idea of the boob as a commodity. Breats are made a commodity every day in advertising and porn. I think the idea of femen is using that commodifying idea against itself.

(This is the first time I’ve been genuinely angry on Manboobz. From MRAs I expect very little, but when other feminists are “conflicted” about images of women covered in blood wrapped up in cellophane with a price sticker?)

Cassandra, don’t be angry at me. I have a lot of admiration for you, and don’t want you to dislike me. But that image is a baby in clingfilm. It’s about people eating animals’ babies.

“That’s offensive if you think people care about their kids more than cows do.”

How offensive is it if I believe that but don’t eat beef?

Argenti Aertheri

A baby with a price tag putting its weight at nearly 300 lbs? Clearly it’s an exaggeration, but perhaps that’s the first time you saw this stunt? Let me find you more pictures…oh wait, I already did. And they’re adult women, not dolls or something (which could actually work without being incredibly objectifying)

Argenti, I don’t know. I suppose I only understand my own barometre about these things.

You can’t tell someone not to be angry with you and expect them to obey. That’s not how it works.

Also, that’s not a baby, it’s a woman. She’s covering her breasts. Are you seriously going to add the assumption that slender women are children to all the things that are already wrong with this conversation?

Argenti Aertheri

Hell, a basic understanding of anatomy, art student level; any time around kids; etc. She’s all arms and legs and a little head, that isn’t supposed to be a baby, that’s an adult, naked, covered in blood, wrapped in cellophane, labelled as meat.

Cassandra, that it was a baby was how I understood the campaign. I just saw it from the link, have never seen it before. Argenti, of course i don’t want campaigns with women being dolls. I hate sexist campaigns! I think I just started this conversation saying Peta were the only ones who were making animal rights vocal.

Also, PETA wouldn’t do that with a baby, because you see that would be going too far. But with a woman? Sure, why not. That’s “controversial”, that is, and it attracts attention to the cause.

This is why most feminists hate them.

As has already been pointed out, PETA are not the only organization “making animal rights vocal”. In terms of hardcore activism they wouldn’t even make the list.

Argenti Aertheri

*bangs head into wall* maybe I just wasn’t clear

I was suggesting that using a doll, instead of a live woman, would both be less sexist, and better portray the “eating babies” part.

As for PETA being the only ones making animal rights public, that was countered soon after you said it, and long before you said this:

“That’s offensive if you think people care about their kids more than cows do.”

Cassandra, and as I said, they aren’t even my top favourite animals rights organisation. Animals Australia are enormously good.

Argenti, I didn’t know it was a live woman. I thought it was a baby fake thing. Wrong.

Are you even bothering to click on the links people are posting? The people who faced down the Japanese whaling fleet did it off the coast of Australia. That’s hardcore animal activism, and it actually saved the lives of some whales. And they did it without wrapping any women up for sale at the meat counter too.

Argenti Aertheri

“Save the fat women in bikinis whales!”

Versus

“Serious risk to self, saved actual whales”

Seriously, did you click my links? Because “save the whales” has fuck all to do with saving whales.

Yes, I’m a huge supporter of sea Shepherd, and I voted for the Greens when Bob Brown, now the head of Sea Shepherd, was the head of the Greens. I just wanted to say i didn’t want to batter down on PETA like everyone else!

PETA deserve to be “battered down on”.

Yes, and I understand why, in spite of everything I’ve said.

CassandraSays

And btw, framing them as a poor little organization that’s being bullied the way you just did? Kind of silly. They’re huge. They have money and lawyers and PR people. A couple of folks on a blog talking shit about them is not “battering” them.

archaeoholmes

They are extremely unpopular among the usual dickeads too, remember.

“Yes, and I understand why, in spite of everything I’ve said.”

o.Ō?

Then why are you still making excuses, or guessing about what their motives were when the effects are plain as boobs wrapped in shrink wrap? Why say that bit about “batter[ing] down on [them]”?

CassandraSays

You seriously don’t see what’s wrong with the way you just framed that? This is kyriarchy 101 stuff.

Argenti I’m not making excuses for them, I’m making excuses for my interpretation.
