Another day, another threat – sorry, prediction – of impending violence towards women from someone on The Spearhead. This time from a fellow called James, in his twenties:
The OLDER MEN simply do not understand what it is like to be a young man today.
I will say one thing though- a very big percent of young men of my generation do not believe in this feminism or white knight bullshit, and they have very little tolerance towards it.
Older men will allow themselves to get ass raped in divorce courts, but the younger men of my generation have no such tolerance.
So if the younger women think they are going to treat the younger men with the same level of hatred that the older women do to the older men, they have a big surprise waiting for them.
1. Either the men will just entirely boycott the younger women
or
2. They will actively fight for their rights, even with force, if it requires it
What I mean by that is, the younger generation of men are much more violent than the older generation. So in plain English, if women think they are going to treat the younger generation of men like shit, then we are going to see a huge increase in violence against women.
In short, the men of my generation are not as willing to tolerate the abuse from man hating women as the older men are. Young women would be very wise to take note of this.

“Radical direct action against feminism?” What does this mean? Generalized violence against women, as James seems to suggest? Firebombing police stations and courthouses, as MRA “martyr” Tom Ball urged in his manifesto? Like most of those in the Men’s Rights movement who like to talk ominously about what they hope will be a massive anti-feminist backlash, the PMAFT blogger is vague about what exactly this might entail. But it’s not hard to connect the dots here.
Protip: MRAs, if you don’t want people to see the Men’s Rights movement as a hate movement — you need to stop posting, stop upvoting, stop even tolerating this kind of hateful shit.

There are a few certain flaws in James’ logic.
Okay, leaving aside all the glorification of violence towards women, (we needn’t bother pretending he laments this prophesied wave of violence), I have to call bullshit.
I know countless men today who are supportive of feminism, feminists, and femme-y things. We also support beards and bourbon and flannel and happy monogamous marriages and poly relationships and women having casual, consensual sex with whomever they want to, (and men too, for that matter). Because for all our privilege-blindness and selfish desires (we’re working on these) we know that women are full human beings who deserve every right we demand for ourselves. (People are even starting to believe that individuals who don’t identify with a binary gender are actually full people too, and that gender isn’t tied to biology! Shocking, I know.) Because as much as new media like the internet and more pervasive television have been used to advance male privilege and male gaze, woman have used it to communicate with us, the men, and we’ve come to recognize, if not empathize, with the dehumanizing consequences of sexism and even the bullshit misandry landed on us by the sexists who seek to maintain control.
So bullshit, James. A fat steaming pile of bullshit. You, like the racists, like homophobes, will end up on the wrong side of history. And people like me will look back, from the comfort of a healthy and supportive circle of multi-gendered friendships and relationships, and be proud that we knew of your horse-shit and knew that it was horse-shit and we said so. And that time the doctor vaccinated your boy-infant because he was CRYING LIKE A MAN. (For the record, by the way, Ritalin is Schedule II. The schedules are legal classifications, not medical or chemical ones, so saying it’s “similar to cocaine and PCP” is meaningless anyway.)
My boyfriend is on horse-killing dosages of Adderall. This does not making him a zombie. This does not make him emasculated. It gives him the energy (because Ritalin is a stimulant) to think clearly. It’s something he takes voluntarily because he feels uncomfortably fidgety and foggy without it. I’ve been with him when he was unmedicated for a week; severe-ADD-symptoms-Rowdy is not “the real Rowdy” and he’s not “a boy being a boy.” He’s a guy with a mental illness, one that impairs his ability to work and study and socialize, and one that he wants to treat.

I’ve heard a lot about the over-prescription of Ritalin and Adderall from all sorts of people, including medical professionals, but they are all from older generations. I’ve always wondered if it’s not just that we’re getting better at diagnosing shit, and meds are more available.
Shadow – I think Ritalin has been over-prescribed, but I don’t think it follows that it’s made kids into obedient little zombies. Just that there are kids on stimulants they don’t need.

I used to work in a first grade classroom as a teacher’s assistant. Near President’s Day, we read them a kid’s book on Lincoln that made no mention of his assassination. Then the teacher (a woman!) had the kids draw a picture and write a couple of sentences about what they would do if they were president (they were all in favor of the redistribution of wealth, along with puppies and ice cream), and she promised that she’d put the pictures around the room when they were done. Well, one kid (a boy! a white boy!), who was also one of the smartest kids in that class, drew a highly detailed picture of Lincoln’s assassination, but with a sniper rifle, complete with scope, instead of whatever Booth used. The bullet hadn’t yet hit Lincoln’s head, but it was definitely heading there.
Rather than insisting on drugs, the teacher and I merely giggled over it, and then I did my best to kind of hide it a bit when I put it on the wall, because we promised the kids, but I didn’t think it would be a good idea to prominently display such a picture.
Granted, there was a kid who was put onto medication when I think she would’ve benefitted more from a stable home life and some therapy. But I’m not an expert, so my opinion means nil, and she was a very poor black girl, so…
When I was in 7th grade I was put on Ritalin for a time to see if it would help my performance in school. It didn’t, so I was no longer given Ritalin.

If he has untreated ADD it could make his life a huge pain in the ass, and by that I mean do everything from cause him to fail classes to make it more likely he gets into a traffic accident when he learns to drive. My best friend has been on adderall since early childhoond. She’s a cis female btw. When she’s not on it she bounces off the walls (literally, she ran out of pills and the pharmacy hadn’t filled her prescription and she sat there ramming herself into the wall while waiting for the prescription to be filled. I absolutely think that there are children being prescribed ADHD meds who don’t need them as a way of trying to get children to be obedient, but this happens to both boys and girls alike, and most of the people on those drugs are on them because they have an actual mental disorder. TL;DR antz is full of shit

As a parent, aren’t you legally in charge or accepting or denying treatment for your child? A teacher cannot put your kid on Ritalin or other drugs. Neither can the doctor mandate you to do so. Only you as the parent can make that decision until the child comes of age and is allowed to make legal medical decisions for him/herself.
Plus, I find it hard to believe that a kid got in trouble for simply drawing a tank. But if he drew a tank running over certain classmates, that’s often a sign that there’s something else going on (bullying ,etc) and having a school being interested in nipping that kind of behavior in the bud (especially since many boys do not feel safe telling parents or teachers about being bullied due to strict masculine gender roles that punish boys for being “weak” or asking for help), so in some cases, bringing up the picture as a possible problem could actually help start a dialogue to HELP YOUR CHILD DEAL WITH HIS FEELINGS OR POSSIBLE BULLYING.
My husband grew up being teased, ganged up on, and bullied. He’s easily the biggest, tallest, most manly guy you’ve ever seen- he just doesn’t believe that violence is the right way to solve problems. And before anyone goes “ZOMG FEMALE TEACHURZ HAET BOYS” he went to an all-boys Catholic school through the end of high school. When he addressed the bullying with the (male) teachers, he was ignored or told to suck it up. When he tried to get his dad to help him (his father stayed home while his mom worked), his father just encouraged him to “beat up” the other boys and use stupid comeback insults (which don’t fucking work).
Eventually, his father pushed him onto the football team (which he hated and quit as soon as he could) and the bullying mostly stopped- but he still dealt with an incredibly hostile environment that was largely male with very little infrastructure to tolerate non-stereotypical male gender roles and behaviors.
After he took a class at the junior college in the summer and met me, we talked a lot about how horribly unfair and damaging all of this was and eventually he was able to take his proficiency exam and go to college early so as to get out of the toxic high school environment. But honestly, I would just have to say that for many, many males out there who just don’t want to fall into the gender role bullshit of being “a strong, violent man” in the pecking order, who want the choice and freedom to be true individuals who don’t feel forced to buy into gendered behaviors and machismo just to survive, and I want a world where all boys and girls (and those who are trans, gender queer, etc) can feel safe expressing what it means to be THEMSELVES without fear of retribution from either peers or the adults in their lives.

As far as overprescribing ADD medication goes, while it’s always good to not be taking drugs you don’t need, there’s little risk from the medication itself. There are possible side effects, but the chances of permanent damage as a result of taking said medication are so tiny they’re barely worth mentioning.

I am sorry to hear that the female-centric education system failed you also. About 20% of females learn in male-typical ways, and are also harmed by the feminist education system. You can improve your odds with simple classroom configuration analysis. Look for “straight row tablet” or “straight row tables”. Avoid “round table” and “4 pack double entry”. A good compromise is “U-shaped tables”, layered or not.
