You lying bitches wouldn’t know misogyny if it bit you on your ass.

This has nothing to do with the post. I just thought it was adorable.

This whole “mocking misogyny” thing? Apparently we’re doing it all wrong. Over on Reddit’s Men’s Rights Subreddit, jmnzz has helpfully explained what misogyny is, and what it isn’t.

Misogyny: The hatred of women

Not misogyny: Bad taste jokes about rape/abuse/etc. Logic. Counterarguments. Disagreements. Harsh language. Saying cunt. Saying bitch. Calling women names. Being pro-life. Calling every woman who accuses a man of rape a liar.

Why are none of these things misogyny? Because you do not have to hate women to do any or all of these things. You might, but not everyone who does them hate women.

Seriously. What on earth is misogynist about calling all the fucking cunts who accuse men of rape of being goddamn lying bitches? When guys call women lying whores, they do it out of love.

But hey, in all seriousness, I have to give Maggie props here for actually raising the issue of misogyny in r/mensrights.

1. @Hellkell: Ya pretty much. You can call me an asshole all you want. But it would be different if you attacked me for something that I couldn’t change (skin color, sexuality, eye color, etc…)

2. Maybe Joe doesn’t think your brand of stupid can be changed. You thinking it can assumes facts not in evidence.

3. Hah! Brandon, you are as dishonest as I described. Nice work, and now I’m done with you. Consider yourself shunned.

4. @hellkell: Joe only thinks I am stupid because he disagrees with my statement. So I don’t really take offense to it. Disagreements != stupidity.

5. Brandon, women can be called cunt/whore/bitches/sluts when they show too much skin or not enough, when they have tattoo or piercing, when they have too much sex or refuse themselves to too many men, when they’re too fat or too ugly (for the taste of the person insulting her) or when they say too loud something a man don’t like. The list goes on, the only common denominator is: being a woman.

None of these word describe a shameful action (or it is considered shameful only if a woman does it, like having sex). If you want to call a woman on her behavior, just do that, don’t refer to her genitals or prostitutes.

“Just because you feel worthless when someone calls you a cunt, that doesn’t mean that was the intention of the person who said that to you. ”

You haven’t read the “intent, it’s fucking magic” piece, have you? You should. Or if you don’t like reading, again, try to call a black person nigger and then explain that it’s not your fault zie is pissed, you meant that in a friendly way.

6. Your entire body of work here = stupidity. Along with self-centeredness, arrogance, and a density so massive it may threaten the time-space continuum.

7. No, it’s because you’re a fucking moron who can never look beyond, at best, a surface depth analysis of any subject you have discussed here, and you clearly struggle with that. Despite this, you have an amazingly arrogant outlook that assumes you always know best.

8. @Joe: Oh no…what will I do? How can I go on? My world is collapsing because some random commenter has “shunned” me.

But just for shits and giggles…where was I dishonest?

9. It’s funny, Meller, that according to you every single time a man acts like an asshole toward a woman, or women in general, they always have a perfectly good reason for it, even if you have no earthly clue what that reason might be.

10. @Snowy: Ok so I can create a simple conversion chart so we remove the gender:

bitch = annoying, pushy, argumentative
cunt = a person you dislike
whore = an overly promiscuous person

This way we strip out any gendered words and focus solely on attacking the behavior

Wait, how did that change the original words? They’re still gendered slurs. See, I can do this too:

f***** = a person you dislike
n***** = a person you dislike

What is your point?

11. hellkell, notice that I said that I DON’T think Brandon is even possibly as stupid as he would like us to think, so he turns around and says that I called him stupid. That’s not stupid, it is dishonest trolling. He knows exactly what he’s doing, which is lying through his teeth at every opportunity.

12. @hellkell: arrogance and self-centeredness does not equal stupidity.

Also, you think my thoughts are stupid because they go against your morality and your ideology. If I went to a non-feminist site, some would agree with me while others wouldn’t. What’s even funnier is that you think feminism isn’t the narrow ideology that it is.

13. Well there’s the whole mess that a person can even be ‘overly promiscuous’ and the fact that 99% of the time it’s only ever women who are considered such… but I’m sure that doesn’t have any unfortunate implications now.

14. Joe, I love the “gee, where was I dishonest?”bit. As if everything he’s ever brought up here hasn’t been.

15. Brandon wrote, “Calling one woman a bitch/cunt/whore is attacking/criticizing that individuals behavior. If I call a woman a bitch, that is attacking her behavior not something that she has no control over (like skin color).”

Holy cow, I JUST NEED TO GET RID OF MY CUNT! Why didn’t I realize this before???

Hang on, guys, I’ll be right back after my sex change. I just need a therapist’s note and $10,000…

16. Brandon, for the record: I do not think your thoughts are stupid. I think you are.

17. There are also a heck of a lot of insults you could use to call someone out that are actually non-gendered:

douchenozzle
asshat
bin liner
twit

…etc. I’m sure we could contribute many more options if you’re stuck for words other than bitch/whore/cunt.

18. @Snowy:

Faggot = a person you dislike solely because of their sexuality
Nigger = a person you dislike because they have black skin

19. @Rutee

I don’t like the insult “Dick” either. It doesn’t reinforce a narrative that men are inferior, because no such narrative exists; therefore it is not as harmful. I still don’t like it, and don’t use it.

That’s why I now use the word, “Nixon” in its place.

@Shaenon

This is a viable theory, Brandon, and I suggest that you field-test it.

Stand back! Brandon is about to do SCIENCE!!!

20. @Molly: I can do that too:

pushy
nagger
argumentative
arrogant
emotional
pain in the ass
whiny

and so on and so on

21. What will happen to human females (except for those few unusually gifted in the feminine arts of charm, allure, playfulness, soothing tranquilityl, and domestic excellence? The prevalence of misogyny seems to be telling you that too many men are already starting to consider most females (especially of the feminist variety) useless when not destructive, and destructive when not useless!

Just a thought… Feminists being destructive is a… bad thing, right? So, when men will all get sex/cleaning-robots, they won’t destroy all the bad women, I guess?
What do you think will happen, a few generations later?
Most men will live with fluffy robot, therefore won’t have child while female feminists, whether it is with the help of male feminists or sperm bank, won’t have any problem to keep breeding… DKM, I’m afraid your perfect solution will actually create a world controlled (yes, more than now) by feminists!!!1!!

22. @Molly:

And it isn’t even the use of gendered insults that is the main problem in this case; current society hasn’t caught up to the realities of true egalitarian living just yet, so people can be somewhat excused for their ignorance. The main problem is that, once the problem of gendered insults has been pointed out, the fact that some people insist on using them anyway and then go out of their way to create bullshit rationalizations.

If you’re not a sexist piece of shit, you answer the criticism of gendered insults by shifting to non-gendered insults. Only a bigot is irrevocably married to bigoted language.

23. Brandon: So why aren’t you just using those words? Why are you trying to act like certain insults don’t have their roots in a particular gender? Again, it’s not like I can easily get rid of my “cunt”, any more than a black dude can change his skin color .

24. Brandon: goood, you CAN do it! Now, you can stop use misogynistic slurs. Good for you.

25. @Molly: Because they are just words and I don’t see the need to self censor myself. I have to do that enough in my professional life, but my personal time is mine and I will use whatever words I feel are appropriate at that given moment.

26. Molly, in BrandonWorld, he can do want ever he wants.

So, Brandon, do you call Ashley those slurs?

27. Just because you feel worthless when someone calls you a cunt, that doesn’t mean that was the intention of the person who said that to you.

This is going in my Misogyny-A-Day Desktop Calendar.

Brandon, I asked you not to come back until you’ve tested your theory. Please step away from your computer, find some Jewish people, and call them the k-word. Explain that it’s their own fault if they feel bad, because they have no way of reading your mind and knowing for sure that you were trying to do that. (Unless they can read your mind. Wait, do Jews have telepathic powers, or am I thinking of Catholics?)

And anyway, it’s something they can change about themselves. Just like women can change having female genitals.

Please do not post again until you’ve run one or two of these tests. Thank you.

28. Do you also allow yourself to be racist, homophobic, ableist… during your personal time, or is it just misogyny that is too much too hide?

29. Please, everyone, ignore Brandon until he’s tested his theory. Otherwise we’re going to get another hundred posts of this silliness.

30. They’re just words, yet he gets all offended if we say we don’t think Ashley exists. And he claims feminists are as misandrist as the MRA is misogynist, which hints at offense to ‘just words’. Yet he insists his ‘just words’ are okay. Just fuck off, you egocentric ignoramus.

31. He’s also claiming feminism is a narrow ideology because feminism isn’t really into gendered slurs. If not liking gendered insults makes me “narrow” or whatever, so be it.

32. @hellkell: Yes, depending on the situation. I will call her “my dirty little slut/whore” when in bed, but 1) she likes it 2) she knows that I respect her and 3) I wouldn’t use those words to describe her to other people.

33. The funny thing is that most of Brandon’s alternate terms are still gendered, and sexist. I think he’s literally incapable of addressing a woman in a way that isn’t sexist.

34. Seriously. What on earth is misogynist about calling all the fucking cunts who accuse men of rape of being goddamn lying bitches? When guys call women lying whores, they do it out of love.
Okay, David has his own take on things which appeals to the reader’s emotions at the expense of rationality. I will try to avoid such tactics and will instead attempt a more thorough analysis:

Not misogyny: Bad taste jokes about rape/abuse/etc.
Rape and abuse do not only affect women.
Logic. Counterarguments. Disagreements. Harsh language.
Obvious.
Saying cunt. Saying bitch. Calling women names.
Women are not an amorphous blob. Insulting one woman does not mean you have insulted womankind.
Being pro-life. Calling every woman who accuses a man of rape a liar.
Political views do not equate to hating women. And no, calling every woman who accuses a man of rape a liar does not mean you hate all women. It just means you think rape against women does not exist. There are people who think the moon landing did not happen, that does not mean they all hate America.

Let me clarify what a misogynist is: A misogynist is a man who hates all women for being women. A misogynist is not someone who is merely rude or deluded. A misogynist is a man who hates all women, no matter their character, for the fact that they were born female. By using “misogynist” as a political tool or a method to control the reader’s emotions, you cheapen the word and do a disservice to everyone who has been hurt by prejudice and bigotry. Have a nice day.

35. Of course she likes it! Her chip is programmed that way!

36. By using “misogynist” as a political tool or a method to control the reader’s emotions, you cheapen the word and do a disservice to everyone who has been hurt by prejudice and bigotry.

You’re not really gonna concern troll, are you? Puh-leeze.

37. @Hellkell: That old bit again? You really need to get some new jokes.

38. Oh, the long-winded mansplainy troll is back! I like this one, he’s funny.

I AM VERY CONCERNED, YOU GUYS.

39. Brandon: So how are all the people you’re calling “cunts” and “whores” that aren’t Ashley going to know what you *actually* mean? Ashley knows you’re playing because you’ve been together for a while, but for people who don’t know you as intimately? You’re basically asking them to become mind readers.

40. Just because you feel worthless when someone calls you a cunt, that doesn’t mean that was the intention of the person who said that to you. They could have said it to piss you off, annoy you or any other reason. It isn’t always “I want this person to feel worthless”.

Here’s the deal, Brandon. Whatever intention someone has when calling a woman a c***, the end result will probably be her feeling worthless. Why would you insist upon using a word that is so hurtful to other people? Let’s look at your list you made of adjectives you made:

pushy
nagging
argumentative
arrogant
emotional
pain in the ass
whiny

All of those adjectives are ways to describe annoying behavior of people without using gendered slurs. Why not use them?

41. Brandon, it’s just as fresh as you talking about your oh-so-edgy sex-life with Ashley.

42. Hey Brandon! No love for me? I’m still waiting on whatever point you were trying to make with that little conversion chart.

43. Please, everyone, ignore Brandon until he’s tested his theory. Otherwise we’re going to get another hundred posts of this silliness.

You’re right.

Okay, David has his own take on things which appeals to the reader’s emotions at the expense of rationality. I will try to avoid such tactics and will instead attempt a more thorough analysis:

Good luck with that, I’ve seen your posts, and it’s not something you generally do.

Rape and abuse do not only affect women.

They disproportionately affect women.

Women are not an amorphous blob. Insulting one woman does not mean you have insulted womankind.

This is true. However, using ‘cunt’ or ‘bitch’ as an insult relies on womanhood as an insult; that requires you to think that women, as a class, are lesser.

Political views do not equate to hating women.

A political view that holds that women aren’t people, but fetuses are, is misogynistic. This isn’t rocket science; either women get the right to bodily autonomy men do, or they aren’t people, and you are a misogynist.

And no, calling every woman who accuses a man of rape a liar does not mean you hate all women.

If you always think women are liars, you think less of women, you twit.

just means you think rape against women does not exist.

Denying painfully obvious evidence of crimes that disproportionately harm women is misogynist, you twit.

There are people who think the moon landing did not happen, that does not mean they all hate America.

If denying the moon landing somehow perpetuated harm against the USA, I would argue that those views are anti-USA, but they don’t. They don’t even cost the US prestige.

A misogynist is a man who hates all women for being women

You don’t get to define that word, you overambitious twit.

44. But hellkell, she gave him head and he slapped her ass. That’s pretty hardcore if you’re as boring as Brandon is.

45. Why do I get the impression that Brandon’s idea of being sexually edgy is to turn the light on?

46. @ Snowy – I’m still waiting on an explanation of why “no thanks, you’re not my type” is objectification.

47. You’re not really gonna concern troll, are you? Puh-leeze.
I’m just stating a fact. If that bothers you, you can put your snark aside for a second and address the points I have raised.

48. I suspect it will be a long wait. *makes sandwiches*

49. I’m just stating a fact. If that bothers you, you can put your snark aside for a second and address the points I have raised.

This is a rather ironic comment, in context.

50. Cassandra: you’re right. When Ward and June throw down, it is HOT.

51. Why is it that almost every time someone tries to play Dictionary Police with the word “misogyny”, they conveniently leave out the the “mistrust and contempt” part of the definition? “I don’t HATE women! They’re just lying whores, is all!”

52. I’m just stating a fact. If that bothers you, you can put your snark aside for a second and address the points I have raised.

You raised a point other than the one on your head?

53. I’m just stating a fact. If that bothers you, you can put your snark aside for a second and address the points I have raised.

Factfinder, Rutee Katreya already did an excellent point by point rebuttal of your points.

54. @Rutee: More men are raped by other men (prison rape) then men raping women…just an FYI.

55. “Rape and abuse do not only affect women.”
You’re right they don’t. But if the punch line basically is “it’s funny because the woman got what she deserve (rape/abuse/…)” Then I’m pretty sure it is misogyny. If the punchline is “a man got rapped and it’s funny because that mean he’s not really a man” or “because rape don’t actually harm men” Then that’s misandry.

“Logic. Counterarguments. Disagreements. Harsh language.
Obvious.”
Obvious, until you try to pass “women are physically weaker and men hunted the mammoths therefore women shouldn’t have any rights” as logic. Every hateful group have used a twisted form of logic to justify its ideology.

“Women are not an amorphous blob. Insulting one woman does not mean you have insulted womankind.”
It does if you use gender specific slur.

“Political views do not equate to hating women.”
Not every silly opinion are morally equal. If I say: “every divorced dad is an evil man who beat his wife and kids”, that’s not misandry?

56. More men are raped by other men (prison rape) then men raping women…just an FYI.

Source, please.

57. @Brandon I would seriously question your numbers there…considering only a relatively small percentage of the male population is even in prison.

58. So, Brandon, does that make it OK that men rape, or does it mean that no women get raped, according to you?

FYI, no one here is diminishing prison rape (unlike the way MRAs diminish women being raped). I DO feel the need to spell that out to you.

And citation sorely needed.

59. A political view that holds that women aren’t people, but fetuses are, is misogynistic. This isn’t rocket science; either women get the right to bodily autonomy men do, or they aren’t people, and you are a misogynist.
Apparently it is not so cut-and-dry for all of the women who are pro-life. You actually sound a lot like a religious fanatic or a political extremist with your absolutes and dogma. I just thought you should know that. I apologize for the criticism, but I hope it is more productive than calling someone a twit because they disagree with what you believe.

60. Psst…FactFinder… women can be misogynistic too.

61. @Rutee: More men are raped by other men (prison rape) then men raping women…just an FYI.

http://tpj.sagepub.com/content/80/4/379.short

Men in prison, a tiny percentage of the population, are only slightly more likely to be raped than women, slightly more than half of the population. Try again.

62. @Rutee: More men are raped by other men (prison rape) then men raping women…just an FYI.

Are we playing the “People are only violated when Brandon says they are!” game again? Because that’s the only way this statement make sense.

63. @hellkell, no, don’t that! We’re feminists, aka female supremacists therefore we must think every woman is perfect or at least better than any man,… Noooooooooo!

64. Psst…FactFinder… women can be misogynistic too.
I find it difficult to believe that all of the women who are against abortion oppose it purely out of hate for their own sex. That borders on a tinfoil-level conspiracy theory.

65. Apparently it is not so cut-and-dry for all of the women who are pro-life.

Or they’re misogynist. Because you know, that never happens, except for all the times it does.

You actually sound a lot like a religious fanatic or a political extremist with your absolutes and dogma.

Were you going to make a point, or attempt a poor ad hominem?

Notice, for the moron: I called you a twit *after* I explained how you were being wrong. The way you were wrong leaves only the conclusions that you are either dishonest or stupid, and I don’t assume dishonesty. Ad hominem is an insult that is meant to substitute for an argument. “You are like a religious fanatic or political extremist”, absent an actual argument, insinuating that I am wrong much like a religious fanatic or political extremist. I insulted you, but I also made an actual argument in addition to this; therefore, I only insulted you, rather than invoking an ad hominem argument.

I apologize for the criticism, but I hope it is more productive than calling someone a twit because they disagree with what you believe.

I called you a twit because you said things that were clearly and obviously wrong to anyone with the most remote sense; for bonus points, you did it while claiming the mantle of logic and analysis. I also explained how

66. I find it difficult to believe that all of the women who are against abortion oppose it purely out of hate for their own sex. That borders on a tinfoil-level conspiracy theory.

You don’t get to define what misogyny means, remember?

67. Oh, by the way, Factfinder, the guy who said

I’m just stating a fact. If that bothers you, you can put your snark aside for a second and address the points I have raised.

?

You haven’t actually responded to a single point I’ve made. Hop to it.

68. Or they’re misogynist[sic]. Because you know, that never happens, except for all the times it does.
Or they think that abortion is killing babies and would rather choose the lesser of two evils, which happens to be limiting a woman’s autonomy. I’m sure a lot of them would love for women to just choose when to get pregnant and by whom, but unplanned pregnancies happen and how we deal with them is a matter of political debate. You have your pet theories about the psychological motivations of pro-life women, but do not expect everyone else to share them.

I called you a twit because you said things that were clearly and obviously wrong to anyone with the most remote sense
No, you called me a twit to bait me. If you called me a twit to help me, then you would explain how what I said did not make sense, not how what I said was not in line with your dogma.

69. You haven’t actually responded to a single point I’ve made. Hop to it.
I don’t know how you do it but you type out small manifestos for me to “address.” I hate it when people do this, but I really do have a lot of work to do and not much time to do it. I may start scheduling the time I spend on the internet. If you do not agree with what someone says, perhaps you should try to see things from their view and understand where they are coming from before calling them stupid.
